Documentaries are for film snobs. But this one is more of a Dollymentary. Canadian Filmmaker Natasha Ryan is the one behind The Book Lady, and says the contradiction of Dolly Parton having a literacy project was massive. But once she got to know Parton’s Imagination Library project better, she ended up making a film about everything Parton is doing to get books into kids’ eager hands early. Keith Urban and Miley Cyrus have roles in the film, too. And there’s even a few seconds of a kindergarten-aged Dolly running towards the camera. The film debuted at last weekend’s Atlantic Film Festival.
I love break-up songs. Even pop ones. But coming from a 15-year-old? I’m not so sure. MTV calls Miley Cyrus‘ new single, “7 Things,” one of hook-ups and heartbreak. Does Billy Ray, the good Christian that he is, know about this? I thought he wasn’t going to let her date just yet. Yet now she’s writing songs about falling in love and getting her heart broken. Please. Again, she’s 15. I don’t think that’s too young for a crush, but the real broken hearts come later.
And if you think I’m wrong, check out the video, where Cyrus’ peers are clutching teddy bears. I guess empty whiskey bottles would’ve really been inappropriate.
Lee Ann Womack admits that the pull of needing to be home with her daughters kept her out of the studio. But she has a new album due out in the fall, and some think it’ll be an award winner.
