Big Is Back With Keith Anderson, James Otto

Posted: May 7th, 2008 at 4:17 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

In an age when Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley and I all wear the same size jeans, it feels good to see Keith Anderson and James Otto so comfortable in their own bigness. It's tempting to get into all kinds of "size matters" and "live large" clichés, but I won't.
I will say, though, that I think these two guys have found the key to a woman's heart: the bigger you are, the more petite she'll feel. At least, that's my takeaway from their new videos.

Around the Web: Jessica Simpson Demanded Her Country Album

Posted: May 1st, 2008 at 5:41 pm  |  By: Link Ray

When it came to her record label, Jessica Simpson had to put her foot down with her to make a country album, she tells Glamour magazine. Meanwhile, in order to jinx the Dems, President Bush is thinking about sending Simpson to the Democratic National Convention.

Take a four-minute tour of Phil Vassar’s Nashville home, his refrigerator, his tippy-top attic and his Jacuzzi tub in his master bathroom.

Don’t hate her because she’s beautiful. But go ahead and be a little jealous of how gorgeous Taylor Swift is even without makeup. And if there happens to be a little guyliner on a young man, she’s cool with that.

Former folk heroine Jewel (Kilcher) is willing to pay her dues on the Brad Paisley tour in order to be taken seriously as a country artist.

It’s not every day you get to see a famed Nashville songwriter actually perform again. But folks in Dallas will have the chance tomorrow night (5/2) when Steve Wariner takes the stage again.

If it ain’t country, it ain’t right. That’s what Kellie Pickler thought of the high school chorus, so they switched her to a home ec class instead.

Where Art Thou, Concert Security?

Posted: May 1st, 2008 at 5:28 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Last week's Billboard magazine had a story about concert security. Yes, those pesky windbreaker-wearing guys who stand between you and say, Brad Paisley. And while they do get in the way of potential autographs and hand shakes, they really are there to make concerts safer. Yet this article paints a picture of budget tightening and staff cutting. That scares me.

Have you been to a country concert, or worse, an all-day festival lately? The crowds come rowdy and ready to party. By the time the headliner takes the stage, there is a lot of pent up energy, often fueled by long neck beers and $15 margaritas. And that buzz apparently gives those fans permission to stand up on flimsy folding chairs, dance with the unwilling, and shout along to the lyrics at the top of their lungs.

A Half-Marathon Hug From Nashville

Posted: May 1st, 2008 at 10:32 am  |  By: Eamon McLoughlin

Country Music Half Marathon photoAs I pushed off for the Country Music Half Marathon last Saturday, I began to think what had attracted all these thousands of visiting runners to Nashville. I had 13.1 miles to find some answers. The CMT Music City Mile began just before we hit Music Row, home to the publishing companies, studios and labels that keep Nashville ticking over. Big banners in front yards congratulated songwriters on their latest hit -- part of the village feel that Nashville offers over other industry towns like L.A. and New York.

Around the Web: Paisley's Wife Wrote the Book on Veggies

Posted: April 30th, 2008 at 5:58 pm  |  By: Link Ray

Another day, another celebrity book. But this one's for a good cause. Brad Paisley's wife Kimberly is trying to get kids to eat their veggies with Henry and the Hidden Veggie Garden.

It's true. Mindy McCready did have a sexual relationship with Roger Clemens, despite their 13-year age difference.

A Seventeen magazine cover and a triple platinum album both in one day? It sounds too good to be true, so it must be happening in the life of Taylor Swift.

Even dentists think that Carrie Underwood is all that. Her smile, anyway. They've named hers the Smile of the Year.

If you'll be near Los Angeles on May 15, you might want to throw your name in the hat to see Dierks Bentley on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Around the Web: Smells Like Tim Spirit

Seventeen bucks says you can smell like bergamot, lavender, patchouli and aged whiskey. That's how Women's Wear Daily describes "McGraw," Tim McGraw's new fragrance which is priced for the mass market.

And $5 says you can play like a pro on a Web site devoted to teaching you how to play music along with Brad Paisley, Alison Krauss and Alan Jackson.

Did Sara Evans' CMT Music Awards dress make her butt look big? She thought so, and that's OK with her.

Bill O'Reilly weighs in on the racy pictures of Miley Cyrus.

Starbucks is moving its record label business to another record company to focus on serving up their over-the-top coffee concoctions.

We Look So Much Cooler Online

Posted: April 18th, 2008 at 2:30 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Brad PaisleyIf there's a downside to this job, it's the anonymity. Readers can get a sense of who I am through my blogs, but I know nothing about them. All I know is what I read in their comments and in the emails they sometimes send. But really, all those tell me is how they feel about that one particular topic. Like how much they love Dolly Parton, or how much they hate my opinion of whatever I've written about. So I'm going to ask a few questions. Okay, more like ten. And if y'all answer them in the comments section, we'll all get to know each other better. I'll go first.

An Amazing Night at the CMT Music Awards

Posted: April 18th, 2008 at 10:24 am  |  By: Julianne Hough

Julianne HoughHey everyone,

Monday night was AMAZING. I am still smiling. My sister and I sat next to my tourmates Jewel and Chuck Wicks, and behind us was James Otto, who tapped me on the shoulder and gave me the "biggest fan" award. I've grown up idolizing these artists, and I actually got to meet most of them, one in particular, Faith Hill, who has inspired me so much. It was an honor meeting her.

It was so much fun being up on that stage. I got to introduce my tourmate, Brad Paisley, with Sara Evans and Josh Turner, who kept making me laugh during rehearsals that day. Not to mention I was pretty nervous. You would think after performing on TV with 30 million people watching each week the nerves would leave. Well, well think again! :)

The performances blew me away, they were all so amazing. I really enjoyed LeAnn Rimes, Sugarland and Keith Urban. I can only hope to perform up there one day. What an unforgettable night!

My Weirdest Moment at the CMT Music Awards

Taylor Swift at CMT Music Awards

Rhapsody

Here's my weirdest moment from the 2008 CMT Music Awards last night. I was sitting among all the reporters in the press room, when Jewel and Tom Arnold came back for photos. Somebody asked them about the election, and since I don't care who celebrities endorse for president, my eyes wandered off to the television, and Paula Abdul's on there, rattling on about something. All this is going on at Belmont University? This sort of thing never happened when I was an undergrad there in the 1990s. My big dream back then was to be a reporter on the country music beat, and now I am doing just that - with Jewel, Tom Arnold and Paula Abdul.

Anyway, the reporters are always grateful to anyone who comes back to visit with us. (Thanks, Taylor Swift! TTYL!) In case you missed the show, here are the big winners.

"Our Song," Taylor Swift
(Video of the Year, Female Video of the Year)

"Stay," Sugarland
(Duo Video of the Year)

"I Got My Game On," Trace Adkins
(Male Video of the Year, Supporting Character of the Year, Director of the Year)

"Gone Gone Gone," Robert Plant and Alison Krauss
(Wide Open Country Video of the Year)

"Til We Ain't Strangers Anymore," Bon Jovi and LeAnn Rimes
(Collaborative Video of the Year)

"I Wonder," Kellie Pickler
(Performance of the Year, Tearjerker Video of the Year, USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year)

"Online," Brad Paisley

(Group Video of the Year)

Julianne Hough Prepares for CMT Music Awards

Posted: April 14th, 2008 at 2:52 pm  |  By: Julianne Hough

Julianne HoughHey everyone,

Today is another exciting day. The CMT Music Awards are tonight! I'm getting ready for the show right now, and I'm bringing my sister Marabeth as my date! I can't believe I'm going to the awards tonight. (In a way, I'm glad I got booted from DWTS so I could come.) It's a first time for me, and a lot of my favorite artists are going to be there (Reba, Brad, Sugarland, Tim and Faith, oh geez, so many).

I'm wearing a Roberto Cavalli dress that to me is perfect for spring. Too bad it's 45 degrees here.

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope you tune in to the awards tonight! JH
