Jennette McCurdy Chases Her Nashville Dream
For the thousands of young adults who are college-bound this fall, Jennette McCurdy's "Not That Far Away" is sure to resonate. However, this fresh-faced 18-year-old has already established herself with a budding acting career in Nickelodeon's iCarly. Now she's hoping to find her way into the country field with a contract on Capitol Nashville and a cozy, colorful video that finds her signing up for an open mic night. Since she looks so comfortable up on the stage, her family and friends in California probably don't need to worry too much. Check out the video.

Tried to enjoy you presentation of Dances with wolves tonight but was not pleasent experience. Your CMT christmas ball with the cmt.com logo in the corner of the screen was obnoxiously big and prevented the reading of the subtitles. What good is a quality movie with depth of content that you loose because you can’t follow due to the fact that you can not read what is going on in the sub-titles. I hope this was not a statement about the lack of relevance or importance of what the native americans had to say, because this movie is suppose to be all about the native americans. Did you miss that point or just diss that point? The scenery was also beautiful at least what I could see around that giant CMT christmas ball. All in all I am left with a negative impression of you network and will avoid watching it in the future.

Now, why do some of these new “think they can sing kids” go through country music. Since country music has given Taylor Swift so much fame, now everyone wants to try that avenue. Country music, what has happened to you. Country music used to have fiddles, steel guitar, and rythm you could dance to. Now, you are killing it with people that think they can sing like Taylor Swift who has to sing monotone or practically speak the song in order to put one out. This is a disgrace to country music. What else now????

Jennette McCurdy is an awesome, up & coming country artist. Some people might say she’s not “pure” country, but I feel her voice and lyrics certainly reflect country. Face it, all genres of music have different variations to them. If anything, Jennette will introduce alot of young listeners to country and maybe convert them.
TommyD3498 says:
This girl and what hear other show represents is a disgrace. Her and her parents ought to be ashamed to show that on national TV. I personelly have nothing against her put the way and things she has done on tv should not be upheld as the right things to do. And she has no place in country music like many other premadonna’s that we have. We gave her to pop music in the 80’s and now we think that she is hot for our kids in the 00’s. We’ll I grew up in the 80’s and have seen the BS that everyone has accepted for good behavior. And I disagree it just get’s nasteier and nasteier every year and these young women who are my age in the 30’s seem to think it’s okay but I don’t!!! You know these same young women explain how alot of the older women who respected them selfs alot more are their role models. But want to put their selfs up as poster girls for playboy centerfolds at concerts and that’s just wrong. That’s not what country music was ever about country music started as church helms and was later sung as hardships songs that every american family went through and are still going through today!!! Not this whore mush that is pushed on us and our kids today!!!!

In my opinion, it’s Jennette’s strong soulful voice that really establishes her as a country artist. That’s probably the reason why Capitol Nashville signed her on to their label so quickly. Furthermore, I have to say that she’s a lot better than most “new” artists making their way into the “country” category nowadays i.e. Thompson Square, Danny Gokey, David Nail…no thanks!
To be quite honest, McCurdy is actually the first new “country pop” artist I’ve liked in years, besides her good friend/label mate Darius Rucker, who himself crossed over from the pop/rock band “Hootie & The Blowfish” to country music and has had success ever since. I have both of Rucker’s country albums, Learn to Live and Charleston, SC 1966, both of which I highly recommend.
Not only can Jennette sing well live, but she also writes her own music. Having a good voice is one thing, but when you write your own music and sing (without constantly screeching or going off key i.e. Swift), you have my utmost respect. As someone mentioned on here before, although she’s not “pure country”, she’s “country” enough to be considered part of Nashville’s finest! Welcome to the World of Country Music, Jennette! May you succeed in all things country.
Jennette McCurdy’s debut album “The Story of My Life” is expected to be released in September 2011, courtesy of Capitol Records Nashville, featuring her two singles “Not That Far Away” and “Generation Love”.
Sydney says:
I usually can’t stand when Disney/Nickelodeon teen actors and actresses try to cross-over into the music industry. Most of them sound juvenile and really are not very good singers. Jennette McCurdy, one the other hand, sounds like an adult, and her music really embodies the country genre.

This young lady should have a future in country music. I am wondering though why she is given your support and a wonderful talent such as Amber Leigh has not even been featured on cmt, especially with her song I’m Not The Girl. She was given support by TCN Country regurlry. She has an amazing voice and good showmanship. I bought her album named “Reckless” and I am anxiously awaiting her next one. Please put her on your programming and I feel sure you will get a good response.

I watch Jennette’s show “iCarly” occasionally, like when I’m bored or I have nothing else to do. My fan appreciation for her has gone through the roof now that I have discovered she’s a singer (not a singer of all that “pop trash” that so many young stars think passes for music these days!), but soulful, feel-good country tunes.
I have purchased her mini-album “Not That Far Away”–with the title track and several other songs–on iTunes, and even placed a few of her songs on my ipod. Watch this young lady very carefully. She’s going to be the next Leeann Rimes! I nominate “Not That Far Away” for the Song of the Year, and I predict she will be singing at the CMAs next year.
