Alison Krauss' "Burden" Is Easy to Bear

Alison KraussIf you've been craving new music from Alison Krauss, here's a reason to rejoice. She's recorded a beautiful and quiet song called "Lay My Burden Down" for the soundtrack of a new movie, Get Low. Krauss sings the song from beyond the grave to the lover she's leaving behind. That suits the plot of the movie pretty well, since it's about an old codger (Robert Duvall) who throws himself a funeral party while he's still alive. It goes without saying that Krauss' voice is heavenly, especially when she's accompanied by Barry Bales on bass, Jerry Douglas on Dobro, Bryan Sutton on guitar and Dan Tyminski on mandolin. Can I get an "Amen"? Here are some other notable new songs that adventurous music fans might enjoy.

"Lay My Burden Down," Alison Krauss
"It's a Good Day," Asleep at the Wheel and Leon Rausch
"After Midnight," Marc Cohn
"Did Trouble Me," Tom Jones
"A Man I Hardly Know," Eilen Jewell
"Anywhere but Here," John Brannen
"Ringbearer," Frontier Ruckus
"Breathe Deep," Guy Penrod
"Prayer Bells of Heaven," J.D. Crowe, Doyle Lawson and Paul Williams
"Late Bloomer," Sarah Harmer
"If You Want To," Griffin House
"Love Scar," Paul Thorn
"One of Those Who Make It Up There," Susan Hickman
"Wind and Rain," Mark Olson
"Firewater Bones," Kim Beggs
"Johnny Utah," Futurebirds
"Good Ole Horse," Gwyneth & Monko

Just heard the entire song for the first time only a few minutes ago. You got your “Amen”!

Doubt if it will be as big as “Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou?”, but the entire soundtrack appears to be pretty interesting. Jerry Douglas wrote a good bit of the score. Looking forward to the movie, as well as the music.

this is music that will not be soon forgotten, just like mirand’s songs alison’s songs are too good to put aside like some of these songs that most artists are putting out today, undo it for one.
