Gwyneth Paltrow Sings New Tune as Kelly Canter

Gwyneth PaltrowGwyneth Paltrow sang Nashville's praises while she was in town filming a movie, Country Strong, earlier this year. Now she's singing a new tune -- and it's coming to country radio. Paltrow recorded "Country Strong" for her lead role as Kelly Canter, a faded country star with a drug problem and an eye on a comeback. If you're curious to hear it, the single is streaming on a brand new website, KellyCanter.com. Paltrow appears to be a pretty decent singer, allowing herself to wail a bit toward the end, while the message of resilience should fit in neatly to the country format. The movie, which also stars Tim McGraw as her husband and manager, will be released nationally on Dec. 22.

It’s not her, but the song is dumb. Why not just “Strong”? “Country Strong” sounds like alot of pandering. Anyway, it’s just a comment on the song. She’s just an actress creating a character and that’s pretty cool. I hope the movie is a little more “real” than the song though. I don’t go to movies anymore, but I’ll definitely watch when it comes out On Demand like I did with “The Blind Side”.

Another pathetic attempt to make country music Hollywood.

Being a born and breed Okie who grew up on a cattle farm with a bull ridin, rodeoin, Daddy, I think I have a good ear for what real country people like. And I say the song is great and she can sing…I understand being Country Strong because that is what I am and where I came from.

Meant to write born and bread but this didn’t spell check correctly but the ridin and rodeoin was correct…lol

That’s what I’m referring to when I say “pandering”. Being strong like folks from the country is one thing, “country strong” is pandering. Kind of like saying “girl power”. Girls should be strong, and there should be wonderful songs about that (”This One’s for the Girls”) but who goes around saying “girl power”? Or “wonder twin powers activate”?

Anyway, she’s just creating a character for a movie - like Garth did with Chris Gaines. Hopefully, this will be less of a flop attempt than Chris Gaines. So, no big deal. But, the song is “cliche” pandering.

Paltrow is a great actress so I’m looking forward to that part - the song sounds generic with lots of country noise in the background - the song may make a dent on country radio, I guess it depends on how well the movie does
