Would Country Artists Cancel for Pigeon Poop?
This story makes me think, what would a country artist do? Did you hear about what happened at the Kings of Leon concert on Friday night (July 23) in St. Louis? The band members were three songs into their soulful set when they had to end it because some crazy pigeons unleashed their excrement all over the musicians. (Guess they are the only ones who don't like the band's big hit, "Use Somebody.") But bassist Jared Followill got hit hardest with the poop, even on his face. "I was hit by pigeons on each of the first three songs. We had 20 songs on the set list. By the end of the show, I would have been covered from head to toe," he said. I'm sure the band felt bad. I'm sure the fans were pissed. But the venue knew there was a problem, so why they didn't set up some sort of awning or canopy is beyond me. Doesn't it make you wonder what would've happened if that had been a country star up there? If Carrie Underwood was under attack, would she have canceled? If Tim McGraw was up on stage, would he have grabbed an umbrella and gone on with the show? What do you think?

jo says:
Well Carrie has eaten a bug while singing, so I’m guessing there’s no way she’d cancel.
Rita says:
I could see any of the country concerts just laughing it off and getting some kind of covering and then go on with the concert. As a die hard country fan, I can’t think of anything that would chase me away from a concert.
Robin says:
You cannot expect people to sing in such an unhealthy environment. How about reschedule? Or stop the show for a half hour and make the venue put something up. We’re not talking about rain, (like Lady A).
debra says:
You would think the loud music would have scared them off!! Should have been something they could do but stop the concert for pigeons thats hilarious.
DustinG says:
I don’t know, but Carrie continued filming “How I Met Your Mother” when the pig had an accident when she was holding it. So it is possible she would have continued - but I can’t say for sure. The only person who can answer are the artists themselves
Linda says:
I think a country artist would have made a few jokes, found a solution and finished the show.
Linda says:
Pigeon poop is nasty.
bigkufan says:
I believe any country fan would have went right on with the show. That’s the kind of people they are. I attended the Bayou Countryfest in Baton Rouge, La back in May and sat and watched David Nail not miss a note in a pouring rain. He was great!!!
Shadow says:
If I recall correctly, Alison Krauss once shot a video for her song “Maybe”, that had pigeons flying all over the place and there was poop everywhere. You do what ya gotta do. Including making sure it isn’t in the camera shots.
Brenda says:
I doubt Carrie or any country artist would cancel, but shame on them for allowing this to happen, there are ways to protect people, lol
Tom says:
Why insult Kings of Leon–a Nashville-native group?

I don’t think there’s any way to know whether a country act would or wouldn’t cancel in these same circumstances unless such an event has happened to country acts before. Its quite possible some country singers would cancel and others would not; just as its possible that some rock, pop, or whatever singers would cancel (Kings of Leon style) and others would not.
This is a silly question. I don’t know if country singers and fans are more tolerant of pigeon poop than fans and singers in other genres. And quite frankly I doubt many of the people posting know, either. The blog is inviting rank speculation based on virtually no evidence whatsoever, and about a matter that is humorous (if you’re in 8th grade) but relatively trivial.
Some people are saying that country singers and fans “would have went right on with the show. That’s the kind of people they are.” Perhaps some performers would have gone on (assuming they were allowed to) but others might not have.
As for the “that’s the kind of people they are” line, one might note that it isn’t unheard of for country singers to show up late, to cancel shows, et cetera, and not always for the best reasons. Some country performers are “the kind of people” who show up drunk for concerts, can’t remember the lines in their own songs, et cetera. Of course, the same goes for some performers in other genres as well. Point being, I would hesitate to make generalizations about “the kind of people” country fans and singers “are.” There are country fans and singers who have all sorts of different inclinations and personalities.
Robin says:
wow! so preachy! I’ve got a headache. Country fans aren’t the kind to sit around with a headache and keep listening to someone call them dumb that is responding to all the dumbness.
Josh says:
Odd one. But Sugarland performed at that same venue yesterday with Little Big Town and Danny Gokey. Far as I know they all stayed on stage, though with luck the pigeons had taken themselves off somewhere else for the occasion.
Kevin says:
I doubt any country star would have been so chicken.
Jolee says:
Guess the pigeons weren’t happy with the music.
me says:
Not sure what country acts would do, but I read that some of the pigeon poop got into the mouth of one of the band members. Definitely not a healthy thing, that’s for sure! In THOSE circumstances, the health of the performers must come first, it doesn’t matter what genre of music.
