Jack Ingram Determined to Go Wherever You Are
This is one of those weeks where it kind of sucks to be Jack Ingram. But it doesn't suck at all to be a Jack Ingram fan.
He was in Chicago Thursday night (July 8) for a show, so I had a chance to catch up with him right when his flight landed. The airline had misplaced both of the guitars he brought with him, but he was not freaked out at all. "I'm sure I can borrow one from [opener] Randy Montana. I'll figure it out," he said. Why so calm? I guess because a road-savvy guy like Ingram is used to travel mishaps and is not about to let any of them get in the way of playing for his fans. And because this was nothing compared to last weekend.
He was trying to get from Austin, Texas, to Aberdeen, S.D., for a show on July 2. But mother nature was being a bit of a mother, so he only made it as far as Houston. "I hauled ass through the airport trying to make my connection but couldn't get there in time," he recalled. After exhausting every option, he had to do what any committed artist would do. He went private. He chartered a plane for a $15,990. "I've driven 20 hours to lose money at shows in the early years, so this was no big deal for me. But it would've been a big deal for fans, and I didn't want to disappoint anyone," he said. Since he was flying in late, Jo Dee Messina was kind enough to take Ingram's early slot in the lineup and give him hers.
By Sunday (July 4), things were much better for Ingram. He played Willie Nelson's Fourth of July Picnic back home in Texas. "Kris Kristofferson is one of my all-time heroes, and he watched my set. Then he came up to me after and said my music was 'honest and real.' I was speechless," Ingram said. "That kind of thing puts all the miles and the BS in perspective."

Alison don’t think that’s me making that comment, Jack is still one of the best entertainers around and never puts on a bad show, 110% everytime. Wanted to be there but i guess Joe’s had enough photos.

I had the awesome opportunity to see Jack for the first time at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival in Prince Edward Island, Canada last weekend. I can honestly say that I wasn’t familiar with him but his performance in the rain won me over! I was blown away with his music and his connection with the audience. Wow!!!…I am now barefoot and crazy in Canada:)
