Chely Wright Leads Parade for Gay Pride
First she made the media rounds two months ago just to say she was gay. But now Chely Wright is actually out and about and celebrating her homosexuality and that of others. She was the official grand marshal at the 41st annual Pride Parade in Chicago on Sunday (June 27), leading the very big deal of a parade of about 250 floats, embellished cars, dancers and marching bands throughout the city's North Side. It's an event the gay community looks forward to every year, and this year's event drew thousands of spectators. While in town, Wright made an in-store appearance to promote her latest album and book, Lifted off the Ground, and Like Me: Confessions of a Heartland Country Singer.

Congratulations Chely!! I know you and I both are going to catch heat. You for coming out and leading a gay pride parade, and me for supporting you. I’m proud to call myself a gay man. I listen to and have followed country music from the first time I heard Reba’s album “Rumor Has It” over 19 years ago (I’m 35). I have followed your career over the years and love your music. I have a lot of respect for Chely and for anyone who marches in the parade. Tolerance and respect for gay and lesbians is very important. I admit I was never a fan of Chely’s music, but I am now a fan of what she is doing as a person.
