Brad Paisley Concert Leads to 46 Arrests in N.Y.
I don't know if there's anything more humiliating than being drunk and disorderly in public -- except maybe being in the local paper for being drunk and disorderly in public. After Brad Paisley's show in Darien Lake, N.Y. on Friday night (June 18), the local police made 46 arrests. Two guys for fighting with security, one guy for third-degree assault, one for trespassing (he went back into the venue after being kicked out) and then a whole bunch for disorderly conduct. But the biggest group was the 38 people charged with under-age drinking. Now, I know Paisley sings a lot about how alcohol "has influenced kings and world leaders" and how you're gonna "catch all the fish and drink all the beer," but c'mon. The irony here is that Paisley himself doesn't even drink. I can't help wondering about those 38 kids who had the intent to consume alcohol. How did they get their hands on it? And if you are drinking that much, will you even remember the concert?

NEWSPAPER STORY From another accident after a concert:
A man was charged with driving under the influence and manslaughter after a woman died Sunday in a wreck on Interstate 75 in Boone County, Florence police said.
Keli, 22, was a passenger in a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Joe, 22. The Camry was southbound on I-75 and struck a tractor-trailer from behind about 11:45 p.m., police said. David of Ind., was driving the 2008 International tractor-trailer.
The girl died at the scene, and Joe was arrested, the police said. Joe was being held at the jail on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and second-degree manslaughter.
THIS IS THE TRUE STORY::
Both these kids attended our church youth group, they are good people. He served in Iraq and was heading back in a few more months. They were so much in love and planning a future. He loved being “Dad” to her son. They went to a Brad Paisley concert in Cinci and had a drink, both did. They were not obsessively drunk, but just enough to be at the limit. She was asleep in the car and he was trying to stay awake, but fell asleep and the rest happened. Friends who were following, who had also been to the concert, immediately called 911. Cops were there quickly and held Joe away from the car with handcuffs while he’s screaming “Keli..hold on..hold on Keli, I love you!!” Friends held Keli until her spirit went to Heaven..
Her family does not blame Joe and hurt for him too.
It is not because it’s a Brad Paisley concert..it’s first the distance people will drive to see their favorite artist, the lateness of the concert and the fact that alcohol is served at venues.

Were they drinking “that much” or were they just drinking. When you are under age, it doesn’t matter if you are falling down drunk or just popped open a beer. Not saying it’s right, just say, no one said they were “drinking that much” except you.
elizabeth says:
“How did they get their hands on it?” Where have you been - this happens way too often.

Very same think happened at a Chesney concert. Nothing shocking and nothing new. Brad just makes sure everything pertaining to him gets noticed or reported. Where there is “alcohol” bad things are bound to happen. Sorry to the families that lost a loved one. I hate alcohol of any kind.

That’s the world we live in. If you sell liquor at a concert where any age person can attend, there’s bound to be kids who slip through. I imagine when there are that many people buying grog, the people selling it aren’t as careful checking ID’s as someone would in your neighborhood bar or liquor store. Then you have the adults that don’t give d@mn and buy the alcohol for the kids. The only alternative for all this is not to sell the alchohol to begin with. Yeah, like that’ll happen. After all, there are just those poor slobs that can’t have a good time unless they’re messed up on something.
Not Brad’s fault no, any more than it’s any artist’s fault what the venue does. If they try to find a venue that doesn’t serve alchohol, they run the risk of diminished sales because like I said, lots of folks just can’t enjoy themselves with being in an altered state of some kind. Ultimately, it’s the individual who is reponsible. If they are anywhere; concert, bar, party, restaurant or even home, they shouldn’t drive if they’ve been drinking. Problem is, so many people have no self control. It hits me where I live because I’ve known someone who was killed by a drunk driver and I know someone who was driving under the influence and injured someone else. I don’t really know what the purpose of the story was Alison. At random you could pick out other concerts and find the same kind of statistics. So let’s encourage the drinking. If someone is stupid enough to drink and drive? Hey, not our problem, right? Yeah, right.

What happend to teaching our youth to behave with civility when out in public? All of these arrests are simply examples of how far we have fallen as a society. There is a reason why young people are not supposed to drink. They are not old enough to behave responsibly. To say “that’s just how it is” gives others a license to go out and do the same. And we experience, once again, a tragic death. My heart goes out to the young woman’s family, but do not drink (or take drugs) and drive. Even a “little” will impair your judgment, and at the speeds people drive on the highway, it’s simply not smart to not be able to stay alert. Do not drink and drive. How many times do we have to say it???????
Andy says:
okay a “little” will not impair your judgement, unless you are a VERY lightweight. But i guess it does depend on the drink.
J.J. says:
Ah, just for clarification. My last sentence was riddled with sarcasm.
Robin says:
Not sure why this was marked for moderation? Makes no sense. I dropped the last two words of the last sentence if “except you” was so offensive.

Peacock Queen says:
Andy,
A “little” will impair your judgment. Alcohol is a narcotic, a depressive that relaxes your nervous system whether you realize it or not, which is why people who drink usually fall asleep.
