Kenny Chesney Tackles Boys of Fall Documentary

Kenny Chesney learned about hard work and blood, sweat and tears long before he got to the big arena stages he's playing now. He learned it in high school as his football team's starting wide receiver. "I now know why we practiced longer, why our coach put us through double practices in the summer heat... all those things he put us through," Chesney says. "It was to teach us things me and everybody on our team has used to become the people we are." And so he's been making a documentary film, The Boys of Fall, about the lessons kids learn while playing high school football. He says the experience he had when he played gave him a "map for living life." From his music, you'd never really guess he was such a dedicated athlete. I thought he'd spent those years striking matches just to watch 'em burn and painting his name on a water tank and having one bottle of wine in two Dixie Cups. But those are just country songs. I probably shouldn't take them so literally, right?

Last fall, Kenny’s film crew spent time at Naperville Central High School (near Chicago) filming HS football footage for this documentary. Kenny’s friend, Sean Payton (NFL Saints head coach) was the honorary coach for the night’s game. Kenny wasn’t there. What an awesome event it was, even without Kenny. The entire town is anxious to see the video this fall. I can’t wait. My son plays for Central and will be a senior this year. What a memory it will be!! BTW: Central came back from a 17-0 deficit at half time and won the game 21-17 with a big help from Payton’s half time pep talk. Really cool! We heard it was going to be a music video, but now a documentary. We were even asked to provide video clips from the event. Can’t wait to see how it is all tied together.

My son Tanner has played football since he was 5yrs. He is now 9 and I know thats only 4 yrs but he has learned so much about sportsmanship and how to work as a team. He has alot of passion and drive for the game. I dont know what the future holds but he wants to play for the Cincinnati Bearcats one day while attending collage there. He is a running back and defensive end and I am so proud! He heard this song and it made him tear up. he said “Mom when I get out on that field thats how I feel. He is so proud to be a Blanchester Wildcat! Thanks Kenny for such a great song!

Great video. Lots of memories, but incomplete without coach Bowden making a comment, there is good, then there is great! Can’t get em all, but one does have to make a statement when you hang around Tallahassee all the time, not to mention his contribution to the many young mens lives. Sad Kenny. Even Toby would have thought of this!

This year my grandson Matt played his first year of football, lucky for him he also had a wonderful, caring coach. I just wanted to say that The boy’s of Fall hits home for not just the boys but the parents, grandparents and friends that come to watch and cheer till their voices are almost gone. Thanks for this wonderful song.
