Lady Gaga Can't Help but Sing Taylor Swift Song

Posted: June 3rd, 2010 at 10:27 am  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Taylor SwiftIf anything would embarrass Lady Gaga, I wouldn't think it would be this. The fact that she sings Taylor Swift songs loudly might be one of the most innocent, youthful and normal things Gaga does. But when she was asked to name one song when it comes on the radio you sing along to, but you are embarrassed that you like it, she said, "I don't want to hurt her feelings, because she's lovely. That Taylor Swift song? 'You Belong With Me'? Oh, my God! When it comes on the radio, I sing it so loud and I'm so embarrassed! Because I so freely sing it so loud! You can't help it! The song, it's not a bad song. It's a great song! I think it's just because it's very whimsical in a way that I'm not necessarily whimsical every day. When it comes on, I just get this ... I wanna sing it! Every woman feels that way. So I didn't mean that in a bad way, Taylor. I think you're lovely and beautiful, and I think you're a great songwriter." Country music does that to people, even people like Lady Gaga, who claim they aren't whimsical.

“today”, Every song Taylor Swift released has been to Pop radio. POP is NOT an individual genre of music. It’s an industry consisting of many genres. Of course if you can prove she has had any Roots Music success, I’l gladly retract my statement and make an apology.

I could use a Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Martina McBride, or Little Big Town song. Taylor’s songs don’t do anything for me.

Taylor’s songs are amazing and reach everyone in one way or an other!! more and more artist are loving Taylor and if your not well it’s your loss!!!!!

If Swift and Gaga were on the same concert bill, they would need the Rose Bowl or something similar to hold all all the fans.

Trust me; I don’t consider it a loss. That would be like someone telling me I’m missing out because I don’t go to the opera. I’m just not into her or her music.

Lady Gaga probably sings Tay Tay’s songs better but then again-why is this news? Let me guess Gaga is crossing over-who cares. Do you look for this kind of non news on the internet and then showcase this as news? Very disappointing

just for the record Gaga does not have a good voice and when she was on a tv show lately she did not sing live and you could tell really bad the performance too! Taylor is 10 times better than her/him I really do care what gaga stands for and the weird stuff that person does.

Interesting to compare how similar both Lady Gaga and Stevie Nicks describe Taylor:

Lady Gaga:”When (”You Belong With Me” comes on, I wanna sing it! … Every women feels that way. Taylor … a great songwriter.”

Nicks:” (Taylor) writes the songs that make the whole world sing. …I still walk around singing “Today Was a Fairytale”. All of us girls want that … Taylor is writing for the universal woman…”

  • tylorwho? says:

    Posted: June 4th, 2010 at 6:36 am

Stevie and Gaga are singer/songwriters. Taylor is a dittywriter. EVERYONE sings ditties…they’re like jingles…You deserve a break today, so get out and get away…that’s the quality of swifts songwriting….they’re easy to sing..

S - CMT is not the government. The government cannot inhibit your “political” speech. CMT can keep or remove any comment they want (no matter how unfair it may seem).

“Free speech” - “it’s America” is really getting old. The bill of rights relates to how the government can interact with it’s citizens, not how citizens and business interact with each other. Now that we’ve gotten a civics lesson - all I can say about the article is “I really don’t care what gagagagagaga likes” - I hate her music so anything that is interesting to her may or may not interest me.

Caught the “Gaga” on Larry King Live the other night. It was so ridiculous I kept waiting for the disclaimer that it was all a farce or something. If this is the kind of talent that’s coming out of popdom, well…I don’t know exactly what kind of affect this would have on Taylor. Having Lady Gaga liking your music could work either way. I mean I doubt if Taylor’s teeny fans are allowed to view Gaga videos (and if they are their parents should be shot) so Gaga’s endorsement might not be well received by concerned parents. Who knows? I fear the Lady Ga will fall by the wayside as one Amy Winehouse. Wasn’t she all the rage a few back before her depraved lifestyle did her in? Why is it people want their artists to be so strange? Do people really want their kids obsessing over this kind of thing? I’m glad my children are grown.

Anyway, Taylor is heaven sent compared to Lady Gaga and I would hope that Taylor will keep a distance from that woman.

Sorry Redmaz. I guess I should have said that Lady Gaga was more than likely listening to the remixed version of the song on a “top 40″ station.

  • Redmaz says:

    Posted: June 4th, 2010 at 8:56 am

Top 40 what? Americana Roots top 40? Roots Rock top 40? Pop Rock top 40? Pop Country top 40? Roots Country top 40? R&B top 40. They can remix her songs ’till doomsday, it’s still going to be Pop Music.

Lady Gaga has a great singing voice. She sings on-key and has more than a four note range.

  • D Trotter says:

    Posted: June 4th, 2010 at 12:25 pm

Aw,stop being mean to Redmaz,I’d miss his “pop”-up remarks! And, frankly, many of you would do well to find out what he is talking about.

Go ahead and IGNORE his lectures on semantics (I do) but PAY ATTENTION to the type of music, and the examples of artists he tells you about. You might find music that oozes with dirt and blood — REAL stories sung by voices (beware: some don’t try to sound “pretty”)of REAL hard-working people. Is it country? In my book, it’s more genuine ROOTS country, folk, blues and country rock than 90% of the Billboard Country top 40.

Red, I have to tell you though, you can look up “consistant” all you want, but you won’t find anything until you spell it with an “e”. Typo I hope?

  • Robin says:

    Posted: June 4th, 2010 at 1:08 pm

D Trotter - what you say may be true, but “country” folks have changed. My mother may have put up with my father running around on her, but I’m not about to put up with it (not a personal story - just saying). The stories there are to tell about the vast majority of people with “country” values AND ROOTS is not about being poor an incapable of controlling their own destiny, but about exactly the opposite. I raised my daughter to be an “All American Girl”. So while these stories are just as important as the others, to say the others are somehow any degree “less” country is just a wrong. It’s not just about knowing “who” listens to country music on the radio, but who lives next door to you and how they really live their lives.

  • D Trotter says:

    Posted: June 4th, 2010 at 9:44 pm

Robin, I know the music you’re describing — I can’t stand that stuff either.

But I was referring to people like Buddy and Julie Miller (their latest is “Written in Chalk”), Lucinda Williams, Ryan Bingham, Drive By Truckers (who write stories right out of the local papers) and Reckless Kelly (my fantasy is that they get up and play “American Blood” right after Toby Keith does “Courtesy of the Red,White and Blue”).

  • Robin says:

    Posted: June 5th, 2010 at 8:18 am

D Trotter - I think the stuff in the roots industry is great too (I love Buddy and Julie Miller noteably) and is definetly country. I don’t listen to it as often as what’s in the pop country industry because it’s “easy” to hear that stuff everywhere. But, I listen to it quit often and to many of the artist you mentioned. But, I don’t think they are “more” country just a different brand. A brand I would never want to go away, but definitely just “different” country vs. “more” country. That’s why I’m happy the pop country and the roots country industries both exist. One is about getting music out that will appeal to the most listeners and the other is about doing it differently and being okay with small sales to preserve an art that may not appeal to the masses. It just doesn’t make one “more” country than the other.

  • Redmaz says:

    Posted: June 5th, 2010 at 11:28 am

So…Roots Country is an industry now too? Suppose you define Roots Country as an industry now Robin, and lets hope you do a better job at that then you did describing Pop Country as an indudtry. Remember that? I can refresh you memory if you like.

  • Robin says:

    Posted: June 5th, 2010 at 5:48 pm

And, it trys to promote it’s artist just like any industry. But, it just doesn’t live and die by numbers.

Walter, I love ya, “Trailer Swift” !! Lol!! By the way, she can’t sing. Singing requires the ability to carry a tune. Lady Gaga could probably sing if she really wanted to, but she just does this weird gagging and croaking and gyrating stuff that makes me want to rid myself of my cookies.

    All that said, who cares????

  • D Trotter says:

    Posted: June 7th, 2010 at 2:22 pm

Who cares? a much better question might be: “Who doesn’t care?”

After all, here you all are again, saying the same old things. Having any impact on her success, do you think?

Last Saturday, 57,000 screaming fans at Gillette Stadium “made a noise like a jet-liner taking off when Swift hit the stage”, according to one reviewer.

Just think about that now. FIFTY-SEVEN THOUSAND fans. At one show. In one stadium. To see Swift.

The first time a female recording artist has EVER HEADLINED a Gillette Stadium concert. Not a female COUNTRY performer, just a FEMALE performer! Period.

And she SOLD IT OUT! Back in December. The same day tickets were released. In 20 minutes!

The reviews have been tossing praise after praise at Swift’s performance, calling it “spectacular”.

This is the kind of demonstration of star power that pushes a performer into the elite attraction level of U2/Springsteen.

At this point, comments like “Trailer Swift” make you look a worse than they affect Swift.

  • what about the music? says:

    Posted: June 9th, 2010 at 8:56 pm

And why should any of these numbers and stats mean anything to someone who doesn’t care for, or relate to her music?

And before you answer by asking why I’m here if I don’t like Swift’s music, I read all blogs no matter who the artist or the subject, because I’m a country fan. Too bad it appears that plenty here aren’t. They appear to be more fans about entertainment and gossip.

  • lifetime says:

    Posted: June 12th, 2010 at 6:53 pm

D Trotter you got that right 57,000 fans there to see Taylor…and the ONLY FEMALE EVER TO HEADLINE THERE!!!!! Taylor you are the best!!!! and I read one review which said Taylor was super and has been having crowds like the Beatles at just about every concert!!!! way to go Miss Taylor!!!
