Nickelback Hangs Out "This Afternoon" on CMT
CMT just put a Nickelback video into the rotation. Normally, that might piss me off because I'd rather see only the countriest country videos. But this is a band with the sexy, raspy-voiced Chad Kroeger as their frontman. And he did write Tim McGraw's "It's a Business Doing Pleasure With You," so maybe there's some real country in this guy Kroeger. There are no country instruments in "This Afternoon," but the lyrics -- about just sitting around hanging out this afternoon and how there's nothing wrong with going all night long -- are likable no matter what genre you call your favorite.

I love the song “This Afternoon” and the video is hilarious. This is a great summer song and Nickelback is a very welcome addition to CMT.
Redmaz says:
You also believe it’s the Roots Country fans who claim country isn’t country anymore. Or this moronic statement that Roots Country fans believe country music has gone Pop. Adding a Pop Rock band to cmt isn’t going to change the fact that you don’t know what you’re talking about. I suppose you think there is no such thing as Pop Rock either? And what are “country instruments”? You’re lack of knowledge precedes your disrespect
Robert B. says:
Lets see….Kid Rock hosting CMT awards, and now a Nickleback video. Maybe CMT should take there own advice and, “Get country”.

The Taylor Swift censors are out in force today. Do Taylor’s PR people run CMT now?
Redmaz says:
Come out and play with me Mainstreamers…I dare you;)
Don’t Care says:
No thanks, we’re tired of your spiel.
Redmaz says:
You consider conscise and consistant spiel? Just what I thought. You know as much about spiel as you do Pop Music. It’s okay I really didn’t think you’d challenge me. After years of trying to be nice here…those days are over. Mainstreamers are very limited. Are you a Mainstreamer?
Don’t Care says:
I’m a music lover and don’t care what genre or brand you put on it. The only thing I care about is if I can tap my toes and bob my head to it and it makes me feel good. I don’t think it’s necessary to take a college course on it to enjoy it. . . . . .
I Am Very Cute says:
i am one of those music fans that don’t care whether its mainstream or obscure just as long as i can connect with the song or the band.
I like Sam Baker, Louvin Brothers, SOns of Bill, Sandra McCracken, The Derailers, Two Tons of Steel as much as i like Lady Antebellum, Death Cab For Cutie, Augustana,Carter Chords, and The Fray.
I like some Rascal Flatts songs but i don’t like the band. I also like Martina McBride, Keith Urban, and Brad Paisley, even his non traditional American Saturday Night works for me.
and of course the classic Hank, George, Lefty, Louvins, Jack Guthrie, and Clyde Moody.
and some folks like Bob, Woody, Pete, Wade, Mike.
and i watch Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour..:-)
and i don’t like Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, and Creed although i like Daughtry and Third Day ( those five bands sound the same to me but there’s something on Daughtry and Third Day’s songs and live performance that i can connect with)
Redmaz says:
That’s all well and good IAVC, but would you say that no matter what your personal preference is it will not change basic music fundamentals? No matter what… it’s not going to change what Mainstream Pop Music is or what Americana Roots Music is. Besides that…from your list I wouldn’t consider you a Mainstreamer anyway….would you?
autismmom says:
Let’s quit categorizing. The point is whether or not the music is good. AND THE MUSIC IS GOOD. At the time Lynyrd Skynyrd and 38 Special were not considered Country at all but now they fit right in - music is ever changing and that is the way it should be. Let’s just play them and enjoy them. In fact play more of them on CMT please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Redmaz says:
Spoken like a true Mainstreamer autismmom. No matter how much you may want it to go away, basic fundamentals are here to stay and are the foundation of music, not your personal preference or opinion of music. So when someone asks “What kind of music do you listen to?” If you don’t believe in “categorizing”(the actual term is genre) what is your reply? “Good music”? Once again…that’s just your personal opinion, not facts. Strange how you don’t want to categorize, but you used the term “Country”. Isn’t that a category of music?(generic as it may be). Also you said about Skynyrd and 38 Special “at the time” at what time? You also said they now fit right in to “Country”. What “Country” would that be? Pop Country? Roots Country? See? it all goes back to basic music fundamentals and genre description whether you like it or not. I don’t have a problem with people listening to whatever they want, however I have a BIG problem with them not knowing what it is, and using the correct terminology. Why is that so difficult for Mainstreamers to understand?
Redmaz says:
Hey Mainstreamers….come on back
what about the music? says:
Ha Ha! Limited attention span, to go along with their even more limited knowledge of music. You shouldn’t confuse them with fundamentals, no matter how basic they are. It’s difficult for them to understand, because as Mainstreamers, they only know about the music they hear on the radio. Nothing else exists to them. To them, Trace Atkins is traditonal country. LOL

love…love.. this video
