Taylor Swift Accepts Her NARM Award With Charm
"I'm Taylor. Nice to meet you. I wanna thank NARM for this beautiful honor and this gorgeous sparkly award." It's a nice opener to an acceptance speech for the artist of the year award at the National Association of Recording Merchandisers convention in Chicago Monday night (May 17). But it was Taylor Swift's story about a new Thanksgiving tradition her family has that the audience seemed to love the most. "While on Thanksgiving Day, all the women hang out in the kitchen and cook, now all the men take it upon themselves -- my brother, cousins, everybody -- they all get in the car and they go from store to store checking the inventory on my CDs. And so they walk in with great conviction and great purpose and their little notepad and their little pencils. They spend all day doing it, and they come home with these glowing reports of their war stories and adventures," she says. But in the end, she admits it's not the guys in her life who have kept her CDs selling. It has been the merchandisers. "I know that it's you guys that are helping me out and having my back and putting my music in the hands of people who play it in their cars and play it in their bedrooms," Swift said.

Quite a week for Ms swift! Even disregarding some of the sillier recognitions coming her way (like the Maxim Hot 100, and the Best Kiss nomination for Valentine’s Day), the NARM Award is a very prestigious honor for a recording artist.
Then, as if the previously-announced Songwriters Hall of Fame Hal David Starlight Award wasn’t enough, Swift’s “Love Story” claimed Song of the Year honors at the BMI Pop Music Awards, making Taylor the YOUNGEST SONGWRITER IN HISTORY to win that honor.
And Swift’s concert tour continues to be one of the hottest ticket items. BOTH of her Air Canada Centre concerts this weekend (over 36,000 tickets) were SOLD OUT in MINUTES. POOF! Tickets gone!
BOTH of Taylor’s shows at the Air Canada Centre — over 36,000 tickets for sale — and POOF! sold out in minutes!
granna says:
D Trotter, bless your heart….you’ve got it BAD for Taylor don’t you??
Robin says:
I’m not sure what everyone’s problem is with this award. Even more than the songwriting award, this is Taylor’s award. These are record merchandiser’s and she has excelled at selling records more than anyone last year.
Maybe Lady A will win this next year (since they are outselling all genre’s now).
I mean really. Does everyone have to gripe about all of her awards. She was the best selling artist for the last year and a half and this is a freakn’ merchandising award.
Teresa says:

D Trotter says:
yep, “granna”, I’m smitten … by her talent and by her apparently unlimited potential to do just about anything she wants; by her enormous heart and spirit that haters can’t crush no matter how hard they try; and by her basic decency and wholesomeness as a human being. What’s not to like?
Arina says:
