Uncle Kracker Has a "Smile" for Country Radio
This story from the Detroit News calls him a pop-rock homeboy. But Uncle Kracker is becoming way more of a country guy these days. His latest single, "Smile," did well enough on country radio stations that now he's released a six-song EP with country versions of his older stuff. (One of the best bets being "My Girlfriend" about the sweet Southern belle he met in Tennessee -- but how his girlfriend's got a girlfriend now.) Plus, he's gearing up now for the fair and festival circuit. And he has radio to thank for that. "Country radio seems to have a few people left who take chances and do things the way they want to do them regardless of who's going to yell at them. There still seems to be a general passion for music at the country stations I've visited," he said. This is all since country fans got to know him as Kenny Chesney's sideman in "When the Sun Goes Down." And this song," Smile,' is not all that different from his Chesney collaboration. It's one that Kracker says has "definitely got that AM '70s vibe. It's just a fun, upbeat, positive song.

Haven’t you heard? The whole world’s gone “country.”
Even though they probably never stepped foot on rural ground.
Redmaz says:
Going from Pop Rock to Pop Country isn’t that much of a difference. Pop is a catch all for anyone who can’t make Roots Music. This person can’t even make the move from Pop Rock to Roots Rock, so he might as well go Pop Country. He fits right in.

Ok, this song SUCKS! I love Cracker, but I hate this song. It’s SOOO cheesy! He went from “Drift Away” by Dobie Grey, to THIS??? From “When the Sun Goes Down” to this??? UGH! It’s so cutesy, it’s ridiculous! If he wanted to sing songs to his kids, he should have just dedicated them on his album and released something else. This song is AWFUL!

Ummm…he is making a move from pop-rock to country, what’s the difference? Just when we think country music can’t get any worse something like this happens. I miss Waylon.

Didn’t he write this song about his daughter? It’s a nice song I do love mr some Kracker!!!
