Will Carrie Underwood Break the Glass Ceiling?
To quote Martina McBride, this one's for the girls. I just realized that in the extremely likely event that Carrie Underwood wins entertainer of the year prize at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday (April 18), she will be the first woman to win that award twice. So, not Reba, not Faith Hill, not McBride, not LeAnn Rimes. Not Loretta, Dolly or Shania. It's shameful, I think, that since 1970, when Merle Haggard took home the first big award, so many men (Kenny, Toby, Garth, Hank Jr., Roy) have won that prize multiple times. It's a reflection of what happens in the rest of the world. Women have to work harder to get the recognition as their male counterparts. There's that glass ceiling over us that says "You can only go THIS high." So Underwood is on the verge of shattering that, and that is a record I think every woman would love to see her break.

Carrie truly deserves this award! Her voice is the best one out there, she’s drop dead gorgeous, she’s humble and true to her roots, she has sold over 11 million albums and her concerts are sold out! What more can you ask for???

Sunday night in Las Vegas!! Is this blog only all about Carrie winning the EOTY award twice because if it is then that’s all I have to say….
Otherwise, let us not overlook the fact that there is another woman in
this category.

Carrie 100% deserves to win Entertainer Of Year at the ACM Awards. She has the best voice of all current females in country music, and she is the one of the most talented women in the entire music industry.
She is the best vocal talent to come along in country music in probably the last ten years in my opnion. 99% of the time she is flawless live, and she can sing any genre of music from country and rock to musical numbers and classic country.
She has had an excellent year so far as well. Among the highlights, she was personally asked to perform at the MJ tribute and the anthem at the Superbowl. She’s had two TV special, one of which attracted 8 million viewers. She received the Symphony Ball Award, and made history as the female country artist with the most number one songs this decade. She’’s also dabbling into acting and got a high-profile role in “Soul Surfer.”
Her tour has kicked off with several sold-out show’s, and she has only been on the road for a month as well. She is getting excellent reviews for almost all of her shows- all the reviews mention that she doesn’t need stunts to get attention, just her voice.
She has grown in leaps and bounds a performer- she is expermenting with stunts her fans haven’t seen before, and she is showing her insturemental talents by incorporating the guitar and paino on this tour. She keeps the focus on the music- which should be the most important element of the show. She knows what the audience wants, and she has delivered.
Carrie is always trying to push herself and develop her talents- everything from writing more songs, to changing the format of her tour to experimenting with different directors and trying her hand at acting and TV roles.
This woman is never complacent, and that’s a very rare thing to see in most performers these days.

Carrie has only been in the business for almost five years, and what she has accomplished is AMAZING.
She, unlike A lot of singers these days can sing the hell out of a song and make them memorable.

I am really hoping and praying Carrie will win the EOTY. She deserves it more than anybody else. My only fear is it’s a voting category. Sometimes it’s kind of unfair to see other people win an award but you can honestly say that they don’t deserve it. They only win because of popularity or of how much ratings are brought in.

oh man, this is so awesome to hear all you guys praising someone who certainly deserves it. I am a huge fan of Carrie and have been since Idol. I just saw her in Lansing, MI this past Wednesday and I was mesmerized. Incredible show and I am going again to see her this Friday in Grand Rapids, MI. Show is so good I wish I could go to all of them. If you haven’t seen it, go see it. It’s an experience you will never forget!!!! Play ON CARRIE!!! You have my vote for Entertainer of the Year!!!!

Carrie has more than earned ETOTY award again this year. One of the accomplishments being her own TV special that brought in over 8 million viewers and over 4 1/2 million on the re-airing of the show. Add that to all the other things she has done she more than qualifies for the title again this year. I want her to make history. I am a male—-but—it is time for Carrie to make history by winning this title 2 years running. I hope the academy exercises common sense this year again and gives Carrie this victory. It should not be about ratings—-TALENT, VOCALS , ETC. SHOULD BE THE FINAL FACTOR!!!!! CARRIE FITS ALL THESE CATAGORIES. SHE IS THE TOTAL PACKAGE!!!!!

Here’s me crossing my fingers for Carrie. The only other one that actually deserves it other than her is Brad. I’ll vote for you next year Brad, this year is all Carrie. Her concert is the best concert of any genre out there this year. Although I will say that Martina has a great show this year too, but Carrie’s tops them all and she is actually nominated in the category. It should be disheartening that only two women are nominated in this category when Miranda Lambert should be nominated too. She has a fantastic show as well.

Carrie Underwood is fantastic and is deserving of every award nominated for. The EOTY should belong to Carrie Underwood. She is an amazing person inside and out. I have heard and read about her tour being an awesome show. Can’t wait to see for myself on May 1st. I only vote for Carrie. I think she does deserve to win it all.

Jim - have you been to her show this year? It’s anything but boring and she has rave reviews. One reviewer even noted that as fantastic as the show is, the number one out front forerunner to her show is still her voice. So, she’s been able to mix a GREAT show with quality music and voice. No one else in the category this year even comes close to having a great show in ALL those areas.

Carrie did nothing last year to deserve a nomination for EOTY let alone a win. Keith was more deserving by far. Carrie didn’t even headline her own tour last year. AMA’S messed up with the nomination period. EOTY means nothing these days from the ACM’S. They should go back to industry voted.

Excuse me Kristy, you must have been living in 2006 when Carrie wasn’t headlining her tour. She did headline her tour last year and it was even extended. Her Play On tour is her second time doing the headlining. You must have been angry because the ACM Awards did some justice and awarded the Vocalist Award to a real singer and the EOTY award to a real entertainer with great live vocals…
