John Fogerty to Join Carrie Underwood for ACM Performance
Put him in, coach. He's ready to play. That's what I keep thinking now that I know John Fogerty is going to be performing with Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley on the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night (April 18). I don't know exactly what they're going to sing together, just that the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will be joining country's finest for what will be a showstopper. So maybe a medley of his solo hits (like "Centerfield" and "The Old Man Down the Road") and/or some stuff from his Creedence Clearwater Revival days -- like "Proud Mary," "Green River," "Have You Ever Seen the Rain," "Bad Moon Rising" and "Travelin' Band"? Whatever they do, I know it'll sound cool to have his gravely voice in the mix with all those other signature country voices.

Granna says:
They should have him singing with Keith Urban! They did a Crossroads episode and they sang great together. Oh well, it will probably still be good.

I’m looking forward to the Toby Keith/Dave Koz tribute to the late Wayman Tisdale. Cryin’ For Me is a great country song.
Peacock Queen says:
I wasn’t planning on watching the ACMs but I think I will now. I want to see Carrie and John together. I think it will be great!
Rita says:
Wow! Looking forward to hearing them together. Love Carrie and Brad. I listened to John as a teenager so this will be great. Don’t know what there going to sing together but I bet it is awesome!
Rita says:
I am so getting tired of this posting system not working right~
D Trotter says:
Hopefully, the great John Fogerty joining Brad and Carrie is the start of a trend in shows like the AMC awards, where recognition and INCLUSION is given to America’s great Country-INFLUENCED artists and musical legends, be they Country Rock, Country Blues, Roots Folk, Bluegrass or other types of Americana artists.
Robin says:
D Trotter - agreed (for a change). Although I think our opinions are more similar than you think on most music topics.
merlefan49 says:
I’d love to see Fogerty but don’t think I’ll be watching
D Trotter says:
Merlefan, I can appreciate that the bulk of the ACM entertainment might not be to your liking, but where else are you going to see John?
The Americana awards (similarly featuring Mr Fogerty) largely went unnoticed by the bulk of the Country. Personally, I would love to see John trading licks with Buddy Miller, but I can’t. But I sure wouldn’t pass on a chance to see John pair up with Paisley, a fine guitarist and artist. Fogerty at the ACM Awards, Ryan Bingham at the Grammy’s — good stuff!
D Trotter says:
Robin, I have always regarded you as an intelligent, passionate advocate for the music you love (kinda like me, lol) who essentially differs with me in our respective appreciations for ONE particular artist (who, honestly, is totally unlike any other artist on my list of favorites).
So it doesn’t surprise me at all that we agree on Fogerty. I hope they let Carrie sing “Proud Mary”, show those new Idol wanna-be’s how it’s done (though I think Crystal could do that song justice too), and let Brad and John play some hot licks on “Bad Moon Rising”.
Robin says:
D Trotter - I’m not sure if Crystal has the range (she hasn’t really shown it yet). But, she definitely is great within the range she has shown us and she is very authentic and true to the kind of artist. Although, I wish they’d have mentioned that “Me and Bobby McGee” belonged to Chris and not Janice. I also prefer Chris’ vocal version to Janice’s.
Crystal is my favorite to win because she has it all - vocal ability and authentic artistry that doesn’t fit in the current pop scene. Although I don’t vote anymore because of the 50 million 12 and 13 year old girls that vote for 3 solid hours.
Robin says:
I was kind of hoping Carrie would sing her own music (not “Undo It” though), but I wouldn’t mind a crazy great cover either.
merlefan49 says:
Robin,
When you said “Chris” you mean Kris Kristofferson right?
merlefan49 says:
D. Trotter,
What I find amazing about Fogerty was his first “Blue Ridge Rangers” cd was all him. He played all the different instruments on it.
D Trotter says:
Yeah, Merlefan, that album was tight, too — even better than some of the latter Credence outings.
Sure, Robin meant Kris K.,pilgrim/picker/poet extraordinaire. And by “Janice” she’s talking Janis. But Robin’s cool.
Gotta disagree with her on the better interpretation of Bobby McGee though. Even though I usually prefer to hear a songwriter (even ones with decidedly off-beat singing –John Hiatt, Tom Waits — perform their OWN songs, I gotta go with the primal kozmic blues belter on this one.
merlefan49 says:
I’ve often wondered if CCR’s song “Lookin Out My Back Door” was about being on a herion trip Since a line is “take a ride on the flying spoon” and seeing happy creatures dancing on the lawn.
D Trotter says:
LOL, Merlefan, you CRACK me up! (pun intended). Whatever kinda trip it was, I’m sure it was a long strange one.
He’s a changed man now. Did you see that story about how jamming with Buddy Miller inspired him to work on his own guitar playing? This, coming from a guy whose songs inspired thousands of teenage boys to get a guitar, a couple other guys who play, and a garage to play in.
And then invent cool names, like Reckless Kelly, or somethin’.
