Randy Montana Doesn't Fall Far From Family Tree
New guy! New guy! New guy! I love finding artists that reignite my passion for country music. And that is exactly what Randy Montana has just done. His "Ain't Much Left of Lovin' You" is a must-download, and you'll hear what I mean right from the get-go. So after hearing it, I did a little searching, and now I know why he has such a gift. His father is songwriter Billy Montana, who wrote some little country songs you might know, like Garth Brooks' "More Than a Memory," Sara Evans' "Suds in the Bucket" and Jo Dee Messina's "Bring on the Rain." Randy himself has a kind of Gary Allan/Jason Aldean raspy country voice. But oddly enough, his MySpace page lists influences such as not-so-country folks like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Jackson Browne, the Wallflowers, Counting Crows and Bob Dylan.
Of his first shot at becoming country music's next big thing, Montana says, "With a debut record, you've got to come out and be like, ‘Man, this is me. Here are the things that I want to say through a song that maybe will let others get to know me as a person, where I stand on things and experiences I have gone through.' There are heartache songs, those love-lost songs, but there are some that are just good-feeling songs that just feel right."
Listen to the debut single, but then hear a different and much more acoustic side of Montana when he plays "Last Horse" while he's talking about his handmade guitar. It's a song his dad co-wrote and Randy recorded with Emmylou Harris. "When you hear a legendary voice like that singing along with your own voice, it's a little surreal. At the time, it's kind of tough to realize the magnitude of what just went down. But then once it does sink in, it's like, ‘This is going to be a tough thing to top'," he said. It's good to know that he appreciates where country's coming from, so he can appreciate where it's headed.

Nice to have a foot in the door, like Lady A said in an interview, those with parents as musicians and singers like they do already have access to the business which is really great so let’s not say OK great on one hand and on the other hand diss those that won singing contests because they got a foot in the door - gaining fans is the key here to a good career and talent will get you great fans - happy to see you’re scouting for new talent Alison - Thanks!
