Jimmy Buffett, Zac Brown Band Reach Fever Pitch
Just ahead of Friday's (March 19) premiere of CMT Crossroads: Jimmy Buffett and Zac Brown Band, check out their enthusiastic collaboration on "Free/Into the Mystic." Brown often performs a medley of his "Free" and Van Morrison's classic "Into the Mystic" in concert, but here it takes on a giant new fullness with the addition of Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band. As the easygoing song swells to truly epic proportions, the two groups reach a collaborative fever pitch just as the country/jam rock/reggae mix peaks. Since both bands are used to that mix -- with one foot on the beach and one in a pine forest -- this could be one of the most natural Crossroads pairings yet.

A good cover of Into The Mystic. One of my favorite Van Morrison tunes. Hard to go wrong with a back up group like that though. It’s at least 12 piece. Trivia time…does anyone know who is playing the resophonic guitar? Also…what is the brand and specific model of Buffett’s guitar?

The resophonic guitar is being played by Mac McAnally, who is a member of the Coral Reefer Band. The guitar being played by Jimmy in this video is a Fender Telecaster, and think it’s a thinline or something like that. Hope that helps.

So disappointed!! It was great to be Canadian during recent Olympic games, but this really sucks! I was so looking forward to this Crossroads and can’t believe that we are on a different schedule. Does anyone know why? I logged the date so as not to forget, mixed up the Margarita’s and then no Jimmy & Zac!! Are we going to get this broadcast at some point in Canada?

Please put this out on a DVD! It would be great to have in our library. I saw that Def Leppard and Taylor Swift’s Crossroads was put in DVD form. There are a few 40+ that aren’t quite into the Taylor Swift phenom. Wish you would rethink some of the past Crossroads to put out on DVD, such as Sugarland/Bon Jovi. Why don’t you have a CD with all the performances? Is it a royalty thing? Just curious. Love the Zack Brown, love Jimmy Buffett…a great pair! Thanks.

I noticed Zac Brown has yet to release Free as a single. It would be great if they released this live performance of Free/Into the Mystic as a single. I could see it nominated for a CMA award for best collaberation.
I agree about the DVD as well. Count me in as a buyer. I’d also download or buy the CD if they ever released it in that format.

It is a shame that CMT cannot schedule there own show in a decent prime-time hour. The MTV approach, to me, is not Country music.
I would love too see this performance on TV but I will not stay up till 12 and 1 am. I was unfortunate not seeing the first airing on the 19th. Those that did, rave that this was one of the best performance for Crossroads, even the local Radio station.
Time to buy a DVR.

Jimmy has been my favorite for several decades - Zac ringing in a new era with good music that just makes you want to move and sing along. Not many singer/songwriters can make you feel like you are there with them on the trip be it the beach, a cheeseburger in paradise, or a chicken fried - hope you release a cd this is a CMT Classic!

I am awestruck with tears in my eyes! This concert held me spell bound from end to end and I can’t get enough of it. Free/Into the Mystic is one of the most magical, wonderful, touching songs I’ve heard in generations. If this doen’t come out on DVD or at least a CD ALL of the recording hierarchy in Nashville should be marched to the edge of town and SHOT!!!!!!! I guarantee this IS a winner!! I noticed Viacom already snatched Free off of YouTube so maybe there’s hope since we can’t download it to our own disks. WAKE UP CMT; YOU GOT A WINNER!!!!!

This is BAR NONE the best concert I’ve seen , I think EVER! YES EVER!!! I can’t stop LISTENING TO IT. OVER AND OVER AND OVER. This concert is a portrit of what music is at its highest level and artform. FREE/ into the Mystic takes me too a place i haven’t experienced for a long time. AND IT TAKES ME THERE EVERYTIME, I CAN”T PLAY IT OUT>… CMT MAKE A CD OR AT LEAST TELL us you are in the works. BECOUSE IF YOU DON”T you must not know music. truly one of the best duets i’ve ever heard. buffett wasn’t kidding when he passed on the torch to zac brown. you can just feel the connection between each of them and to the audience together. i have listened to free over and over. thank goodness for the dvr, but i would love to buy this whole concert. you have got to release this song. i think we just found jimmy’s successor!
