Lee Ann Womack Finds Hope in "There Is a God"

Posted: March 12th, 2010 at 12:22 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

At first, it sounds like Lee Ann Womack wasn't so sure about "There Is a God," her latest song that's all about believing in God when you find proof of Him in the little, everyday things. "In some ways, I was afraid of this song, because it's a lot like 'I Hope You Dance' -- and that song was such a moment. But then I look around and talk to my friends and we all agree how easy it is to lose sight of what matters ... or to focus on the things that don't matter, but really slow you down during the day," she said. She's so right. And she's also right when she says that when she thinks about recording a song, she thinks, "I look at not just what's it saying, but is this something someone else might need to hear?" That is so true. We all need to hear the message in this song, which Womack sums up with this: "Just stop a minute and breathe and think about all the blessings. It really is that simple."

It seems like Womack doesn’t even know what the lyrics to her own song are about. Maybe she does know and has some kind of ulterior motive for misdescribing the song. But whatever the situation, Womack’s comments above about the message of the song are pretty inconsistent with the actual lyrics of the song.

I was at the Concert, in Greensboro, and Lee Ann Womack sung this song and it is a Beautiful song. She along with Reba and George Strait, put a awesome show on. I could go see them again.
    Keep up the good work.

I agree with Pat Moore! I had also seen George Straight, Reba and Lee Ann Womack in concert but in Orlando. Lee Ann Womack might not be a big as she used to be in Country Music but she still has an Awesome voice and puts on a great show. I think she should never give up singing! She is one of the few that can still touch your heart when you hear her sing! Not many singers now a days have the true county feel to their music.

I still enjoy listening to LeAnn….I think she is one of the orginal sounding women we have in country music today…Nice going LeAnn!

I liked the Womack of “Does Your Ring Burn My Finger,” “Last Call,” “Never Again, Again,” and “I May Hate Myself in the Morning.”

But the “There Is A God” and “I Hope You Dance” and “Something Worth Leaving Behind” stuff is just not my cup of coffee or tea. If that’s the kind of music she wants to release in the future, I hope it doesn’t make its way to my radio. But if she wants to go back to some of the other stuff I’ll be glad to listen.

Hotelmotel- that statement is edited. That was not the only comment she made about the song, there are other bits and pieces that she made about the song and they were right on the money! She knows what she is singing, lets throw stones because she sing what she believes!

Jesse - what is the full source for this statement. Because I believe you that it is edited. I’d like to read what Womack actually said. Perhaps the quotes here on this blog are massively taken out of context. Because this blog makes it sound like Womack thinks the message of the song is something that really has nothing to do with what the song is about. If so, then the writer of the blog should fix this. If the blog accurately describes what womack thinks the song is about, then I would say she doesn’t know what her own songs mean. Well, who knows. Either way someone messed up.

But whatever the message of “There is a God,” its definitely struggling on the charts. This thing has been out since late October and its just barely around #30.
