Lady Antebellum Feels Blessed by Success
On the afternoon before their first of two headlining shows at the Ryman Auditorium this week, the three members of Lady Antebellum sat on the steps in front of the famous stage and fielded questions from reporters. For a half-hour, they used words like "blessed," "blown away" and "humbled" to describe their frame of mind. In the eye of the storm, the band says they are sort of oblivious to their growing fame. "When I really realize it, and get overcome with that emotion -- that we're really doing it -- is in those quiet moments when I let myself breathe and think and stop," says Hillary Scott. "So much of what we do is constant moving, so whenever you have a chance to stop, it's like, ‘Oh, OK, yeah. This really is all happening. We're not just dreaming it.'"
The band said that they view their back-to-back Ryman shows as preparation for a headlining tour, perhaps this fall. In other news, Scott said she has written a song with Miranda Lambert that will be on Blake Shelton's album later this year. (Scott also sings harmony on the track, titled "Suffocating.") In addition, the Grammy-winning band collaborated with R&B star John Legend in December on a tune that everybody's proud of, although nobody knows whose album it's going to end up on. And if their schedules ever align, the band is planning to write with Ronnie Dunn, too.
When someone asked about potential acting roles for the band, Scott and Dave Haywood immediately looked at Charles Kelley, who sheepishly admitted that he'd be interested in trying it. (One of his heroes is Tim McGraw, after all.) But they're all in agreement that performing on Saturday Night Live is their next big goal. As Scott noted with a grin, "If a Golden Girl can do it, Lady A can do it."
