Keith Urban Totes a Cute Kid, Plus Kris Allen
If I get another Keith Urban Google Alert, my inbox may explode. Every time I refresh my screen there's more and more news about him. So I thought I'd try to recap all things Urban in one comprehensive blog. First of all, these new pictures of Keith, Nicole and baby Sunday arriving in Sydney earlier this week show off how the tiny toddler has her father's face, his smile, his eyes and his wispy hair. It's too soon to say if she'll grow up to have Kidman's supermodel figure, but for now she looks just perfect.
Then there's the "I could've predicted this" news that Urban will bring American Idol winner, Kris Allen, on tour for a few stops this summer. Allen will open for Urban in Las Vegas in April, then do a few more shows in July, August and September. I had a feeling this would happen when they did a duet of "Kiss a Girl" last May on the show's finale, when I said "... watching those two perform so effortlessly felt so, so natural. Like I could see Allen on a real stage with Urban some day." I'm kind of psychic that way.
Then there is all that talk of one of this year's Idol contestants, Casey James, doing "You'll Think of Me." It was outstanding, not only because James seems to have the quiet balladeer thing down, but because it's still a great song. The judges thought it was "safe," "sincere" and "definitely a move in the right direction." I'm not a judge, but I have to add that bringing a Keith Urban song into your time on Idol is always a good idea.

Yes Alison, Sunday has her father’s face. She’s already got her mom’s body…very, very long. Keith will be looking up at both his girls before he knows it.
I’m surprised Kris Allen is opening for Keith. I would have been less surprised if it had been Danny Gokey. Keith and Nicole supported Danny early on in the AI competition and Danny actually released a song to country radio. I have to disagree about Casey James’ rendition of “You’ll Think of Me”. I wasn’t impressed. But then again, I’ve never heard anyone cover a Keith Urban song and do well. Keith is so good that no one can do his songs justice, especially that song.

The only source for Keith and Nicole supporting Danny early in the show was Danny. Keith said that it was worked out a few weeks before the finale for him to perform with Kris, and he and Nicole loved watching him progress on the show. I remember an interview also around the time of Rat Pack week where he said he saw the show and was very impressed with the talent of the entire Top 5.
I think it’s great that Kris is opening for him. I agree with you, Alison, that their duet at the Idol finale was natural and effortless. They sounded great together, and clearly had a lot of fun.

I don’t recall Kris ever talking about Danny. I know in a few interviews that I saw, Keith clearly said both he & Nicole were pulling for Kris and he admired his talent and passion for music. On the night of the Idol finale he was on the red carpet and mentioned again that they were hoping Kris would win and that he was going to perform with Kris that night. I think Kris will be a great opening act for Keith. I don’t think it matters what genre of music you are in. If your good, that’s what matters and both Keith and Kris are great! I would love to see them do another duet.

Its about time kris gets the recoginition he deserves

I actually thought Casey James’ rendition of “You’ll Think of Me” was better than Keith’s. Casey has some grit to his voice. I love Keith as a person/artist, but am not crazy about his vocals. I love him and Brad together and think he’s a great guitarist. But, I think his voice is just “too pure” without any grit at all. It’s just a preference though, I still think Keith is talented, I just am not crazy about his vocal interpretations.

I loved Keith and Kris together on Kiss A Girl. Best performance of the night for our family. I have it on my ipod and listen to it a lot. I think they would be great together on tour. Danny is touring with Sugarland I think so all is good for him. I am so very happy that country music as embraced AI. I think back to the Carrie/Flatts performance and am just awed. I had liked Rascal Flatts before, but had never bought their cds. After that I started looking for their music.

Kris and Keith - awesome. I AGREE ‘IKissed A Girl” on the Idol finale was too perfect. They were great together. Hope they do some songs together as well as solo. My daughters going to Vegas show and think a carload of us will head to Des Moines. Minnesota state fair is HUGE guys!! Also happy for Danny with Sugarland.
