Easton Corbin Hides Music Under His Old Hats

Posted: March 9th, 2010 at 12:46 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

All the buzz about Easton Corbin (“A Little More Country Than That”) has been that he’s the new George Strait. And he really does sound a lot like Strait. His voice, the guitars and his songwriting all echo King George's style. But I just played this online shell game -- only with Corbin’s baseball caps -- and discovered there is way more to him. You just keep your eye on the caps and if you can click on the one he’s hiding under, you can unlock his songs. All 11 tracks, if you keep playing. And when you do, you’ll discover that not only does Corbin have the same kind of traditional country sound as his heroes like Keith Whitley and George Jones, but also some contemporary artists. I hear traces of Joe Nichols in “That’ll Make You Want to Drink” and Jimmy Buffett in “A Lot to Learn About Livin’.” Musical comparisons aside, though, Corbin’s his own man and his self-titled debut album is proof of that.

I may be from the city but you know what? I’m a little more country than that. Did that make any sense? :)

Alison is a talented writer. Read your post over again I_am_cute, and you will understand why Alison is blogging here and you’re not.

As far as Easton Corbin. If you played his album for a Strait fan, and didn’t tell them who it was, they would swear they were listening to Strait. This could be a good thing, or a bad thing depending on how radio and the public react.

He sure does channel Strait -that’s for sure. maybe he could use a bit more of his own personality but at least he’s going after someone great. There’s a review of it i saw on Country Standard Time

Your CMT awards show made a huge mistake when they interrupted Easton Corbin’s performance with of all things, More Damm commercials.
I can’t remember ever seeing that happen on an awards show
before. That was a real injustice to Easton.
You owe him more appearances after that blunder.
