Eric Church Cleans Up for "Hell on the Heart"

Posted: March 8th, 2010 at 1:39 pm  |  By: Chris Parton

By his own admission Eric Church likes things a bit gritty, but he can also clean up when he needs to. For his "Hell on the Heart" video, he and his band get decked out in matching suits and ties to play the song from a bright red heart-shaped stage. To me he seems a little uncomfortable, but Church performs the song with conviction just like he would at a concert. Maybe he just wanted a look that fits with the production of the song, which starts off with a drum machine track, but it's definitely a lot tamer than fans of the singer-songwriter are used to. Then again, "Love Your Love the Most" was Church's first Top 10 single and that was pretty sweet and tender, too. Is this the start of a new, clean cut Eric Church?

    Say it ain’t so!!!!!
Part of the charm of Eric Church is that he is a little rough around the edges. Please don’t ever lose that edge.

There is no charm in eric church. Just a mediocre singer who sends to radio bland and cliched songs like “Hell on the Heart” and “Love Your Love The Most” .

“Hell on the Heart” and “Love Your Love the Most” are pretty much the only soft, love songs off of Eric’s latest album. Hotelmotel, Eric actually let his fans pick his first single, which was “Love Your Love the Most.” Perhaps you should learn more about an artist before you judge them.

    HOTELMOTEL,
Why don’t you go to an Eric Church concert and tell me how “commercial” it sounds. Of course stuff on radio is commercial, the only two songs on either of eric’s first two cd’s are his biggest radio hits. Eric is what country music should be about. He’s a songwriter. He writes all his own stuff, puts on a concert that would put Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley etc… to shame, and continues to gather a rather “cult” or “church chior” like following. Get your facts straight.

Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Trace Adkins, Blake Shelton, Craig Morgan, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood = COMMERCIAL ARTISTS

    Eric Church = An ARTIST!

“THERE IS NO CHARM IN ERIC CHURCH”-obviously comes from someone who hasn’t witnessed his kick-ass charm live! Eric puts on a great show, and you’ll never leave disappointed…if what you want are cookie-cutter artists that sound good on radio only-listen to Rascal Flatts all day long (and yes, I do like some of their tunes too), but if you want an original, singer/songwriter, with some grit, who knows how to entertain-go see Eric Church!

I agree, Church may be trying to come off as this Rebel/Outlaw artists, but what it boils down to is just another Pop act being played right alongside Urban, Chesney, Paisley, Adkins. It’s the only genre of Country Music he is recognized in, and for good reason. he may be better than, and you might like him more than those other acts, but lets face it, he’s no Stoney, Willy, Brandon, Ryan, Micky, REK, Buddy, or JTE. By definition there are no Outlaws in Pop music. Church included.

Happyreadhead says “if you want an original singer/songwriter, with some grit…go see Eric Church.”

Maybe Church’s live shows feature those things. But his two singles certainly don’t reveal that side of him. They are lacking in any originality or grit.

If Church (and/or his fans) want to portray the guy as “gritty” and “original,” fine. But that is going to be met with skepticism when he releases junk like “Hell on the Heart” and “Love Your Love the Most” to radio.

Someone is going to say “don’t knock the live shows if you haven’t heard them.” I agree and I wouldn’t knock the live shows. But based on what I have heard of Church on the radio, I see little reason to see one of his live shows.

Eric Church is country rock outlaw.

hotel motel, every blog there is about Eric, you have to complain. Just admit you are jealous or explain your negative drama and get over it.

Excuse me hotelmotel, I have been to 5 ECB concerts and I have listened to Eric Church for a VERY long time now. If you knew any better one of his most intense and “gritty” songs could be considered “How bout you?” Listen to it. Tell me if you really think thats commercial. You can’t knock Eric Church and not know a thing about him. I mean give me a break. Honestly, I could care less how you feel about Eric Church, or anything for that matter. But if you’re going to post stupid, ridiculous things on here, back yourself up a little bit better.

Oh and by the way, Eric isn’t changing. He is becoming a little more famous than he previously was. And that is from is hard work and dedication to his loving fans. He still is the best and rocks out all the time.
