REO Speedwagon Will Make You Keep On Lovin' Keith Urban

Posted: February 11th, 2010 at 11:42 am  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Keith UrbanCertain country artists can muster up the courage to acknowledge influences outside the typical Waylon/Merle/Johnny box. In this impromptu play-me-a-song moment with Keith Urban, he goes crazy on the piano and sings his heart out on REO Speedwagon's "Keep On Loving You." Supposedly, it's one of his guilty pleasures. It was at a photo shoot in Los Angeles. He reportely went on to play a few of Elton John's hits too, saying, "I loved Elton John's voice growing up. He had almost a country sound to it." I think what's cool about clips like this is that they show how musically gifted Urban is. It's not like he focused solely on guitar and left other instruments behind. He can play anything, and play it well.

You are so right Alison! Keith can even play a cardboard box and make it sound good!! lol!! I know at several of his concerts he even played the drums. I believe I read where his Dad had been a drummer. I’ve heard Blair Garner(radio personality)call Keith a human jukebox. He said Keith could play and sing anything. Oh, to be so talented and beautiful!

I have heard Keith say he doesn’t actually play piano! Hello, I don’t actually play piano, I can sit and doodle out a few clumsy songs, but Keith can play for a room or arena full of people. Keith can play piano, drums, every banjo, ganjo, ukelele and mandolyn type instrument there is and of course he is a guitar genuis!! Add to that a truly beautiful, unique voice and a very humble attitude and you have Keith Urban. I can’t ignore the fact that award or not, HE IS THE BEST entertainer performing today!! No wonder he has so many devoted and faithful fans!

Can’t leave out his song writing abilities, and his very admirable attitude of callaborating usually for the best result possible. If you see him in concert, or at a place like Help for Haiti, he never has to have all the focus. If you saw all for the Hall you saw that part of Keith urban. He justs loves the music and loves to be a part of music!

I’m definately not surprised. I’m crazy over Keith’s music and Keith and I’ve often wondered why. I think it’s because I can hear the classic rock sound in his music and he IS very talented then when you put that together with his grounded attitude, unique voice and those blue eyes…
His concerts are absolutely over the top great. Thank you, Keith, I’ll be a fan forever. Ditto on everything else that’s been said so far too, so very true.

Totally agree with everyone here…Keith is not only a excellent guitarist and songwriter but he is also very talented in other instruments. Anyone that sees Keith perform live would agree that he entertains the fans not only with his singing and energetic live shows but also with his talent in playing certain instruments. Love that Keith incorporates many styles of music into his own including Rock, Pop and Blues….that’s what makes Keith so unique and gives his “country” sound that unique sound all it’s own….THAT WHAT I LOVE ABOUT KEITH!

I’ve always loved REO, and that song. I’m willing to bet Keith can bring his magic to it as well and make it his own.

After listening to his music, it’s obvious country music is not an influence.

After reading your comments, Neal, it’s obvious you’re not a fan. That’s okay. Keith isn’t for everyone. Find someone you enjoy.
