Kenny Chesney Would Love Halftime Next Time

Posted: February 10th, 2010 at 6:07 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Kenny Chesney With Mike & MikeThere's a new Facebook page you can join called "Kenny Chesney for Super Bowl 2011." Its mission is simple: "Super Bowl halftime shows have been boring the last few years ... show your support as we petition the NFL to put KENNY CHESNEY on the Super Bowl halftime show in 2011. Invite your friends!" Hmmm. Sounds like somebody didn't love the medley of classic songs from legendary rockers the Who at Sunday's big game. That somebody is a DJ at a country radio station in Madison, Wis. He already has 638 members in his group and it isn't even a week old. So his campaign might have a shot at getting Chesney onto the Super Bowl stage in 2011. It's a good thing Chesney is sort of taking a year off from touring because the NFL doesn't want an overexposed act. "When was the last time you saw the Who on TV? We like acts whose songs are very familiar to people of all ages, all demographics," said Charles Coplin, NFL vice president of programming. Chesney himself joked about the possibility last week on ESPN's Mike & Mike in the Morning radio show with Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic. "I would love to do halftime at the Super Bowl. That'd be fun. If I do halftime at the Super Bowl next year, it's all because of Greeny," he said.

Nah, I don’t think so. The next Super Bowl will be played in Texas — they should get a native Texan, maybe a co-bill of Beyonce and Usher, both of whom were born in Texas.

I think Kenny would be a great act for the superbowl. It is time for country music to have a chance.I did enjoy the Who,but I am getting tired of rock.Give country music a chance and Kenny would be perfect.

I would love to see Kenny. These oldie groups are so not fun. You could do a Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson and Miranda Lambert half time - all from Texas and all different genres. At least people would stay awake or watching instead of using that time to reload their plates and and take a bathroom break.

Kenny full of himself? Never. One the most humble men around. I think people are jealous that he and taylor swift are so successful and totally leave the other country acts in the dust. Hey, continue being jealous,Chesney is one the best performers in the world!

Kenny would be great for the superbowl!!! It’s time to have someone ‘popular’ and not a classic rocker at the superbowl. Kenny is used to playing stadiums. He fills them every year. Anyone who sees Kenny live knows he rocks and his concerts are more of a rock show than a country show. As for those kenny haters, he is one of the biggest stars of the century!!! Hahahaha!!!! Any of you how doubt kenny’s ability, see him live, and you will change your mind. Plus he has great connections with the NFL too.

Kenny would be perfect for the superbowl!!! He is a great entertainer, and may actually have people watch half time. Being a teen, The Who is like 1970s. We are in 2010 folks! Wow there are too many people discing on Kenny. I want to see you suggest a better act.

Hey John — You suggest to the “haters” to go see Chesney live, well, I tried that and after I saw the opening acts, I left. He does NOT entertain ME.

Cindy, you said Kenny doesn’t entertain you but then said you left after the opening acts. So how do you know he’s not entertaining if you left after the opening acts?

Personally, I would love it if Kenny played half time next year. He really knows how to rock a stadium.

Kenney Chesney is a great crowd pleaser when he performs. He is one of my favorite Country Music Singers. He’ll do perfect if he performs next year during Super Bowl half time.

Kenny Chesney knows how to throw a stadium party so he would definitely be great for the half time show…although I would also love to see MY favorite KEITH URBAN perform…Keith also knows how to entertain a huge crowd. Wow, that would be great to see BOTH of these artists perform during the half time show….now that would be a half time show worth watching!

I say (as a fogie myself), I’m all in favor of putting new, fresh COUNTRY talent in there, rid the stage of has-been old fogies who long passed their music prime.

Just what I was thinking while listening to the WHO, who were my generation. Kenny would be great at the super bowl. I know first-hand he can really rock a stadium as this old “fogie” attends all his stadium shows in PHILLY. Go kenny!

I would have to disagree with the “half time show being boring the past few years” because Bruce Springsteen did a fantastic job 2 years ago. I also believe that Kenny would do a great job. So I hope they can work it out for Kenny to do the show. I know a lot of the younger fans don’t even know who half these artists have been in the past.
Good luck Kenny, hope to see ya do the halftime at superbowl 2011.
