Rascal Flatts' Last Decade Still "Feels Like Today"
For the successful gang comprised of Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus, the last 10 years have proven a pretty sweet ride. While toasting all of the songwriters featured on their six studio albums, Rascal Flatts shared with me backstage what they looked forward to in the next 10 years. Their collective response turned out to be more music and more of the same. Well, save funnyman DeMarcus, who playfully noted, "We're reaching for some Geritol in the next decade."
"It has been an amazing 10 years," Rooney noted. "If in 20 years we're still looking back and doing the same thing, it would be awesome. That would be a dream come true." LeVox revealed that the trio is recording new music for an upcoming album. He also noted that even with all of their success and time in the business, the group still feels as though they're just getting started. "It's gone by so fast and we still have so much music to get out. We still feel new. The time we've been in the business -- it's been a decade -- it's been wonderful. We've got a lot more to accomplish and have goals set real high," he said. Rooney quickly added that he couldn't believe it had already been 10 years. But for DeMarcus? "Feels more like 25," he laughed.

“Fast Cars and Freedom” came on the car radio this morning and I cranked up the volume. I love that song. I don’t care if some people don’t want to call RF “country” and I don’t mind if some people don’t care for their “nasal” voices. That is O.K. if they are not fans of RF, but personally, I think “Fast Cars and Freedom” is one of the best songs ever recorded. I hope this group stays around another 10 years because they make good music, “country” or not.
