Josh Turner's Schedule Is Going Haywire Lately

Posted: February 9th, 2010 at 6:10 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

He. Is. Everywhere. This new Josh Turner album, Haywire, is all anyone in country music can talk about today. Josh this, Josh that. He's got a CMT Insider interview and accompanying story out. He did a long Q&A with EW.com. Then there's the Wal-Mart Soundcheck performance, where he does an old Vern Gosdin song, "I Can Tell by the Way You Dance." I'd always figured Turner was a huge fan of traditional music because of his voice and his songwriting style. But Vern Gosdin? Turner claims he listened to him going to and from school in South Carolina. He notes, "When you say 'Vern Gosdin,' I think country soul and a lot of heart and a lot of emotion -- that's what he was."

But Turner also does his own hits like "Firecracker" and "Would You Go With Me," which has a just-right combination of Turner's baritone and banjo, mandolin and resophonic guitar. And of course his sexy new song, "Why Don't We Just Dance." I love that one because it seems to be a reality that only exists in country music. If I said to my real-life husband that we should turn off the TV and I'd put on my best dress and high heels and just dance, he'd think I'd gone crazy.

In the EW.com interview, Turner brings up Gosdin again. He says that his favorite track on the new album is "The Answer" because it sounds like a sad Vern Gosdin song melodically, and he thinks it's one of the best songs he's written. He also remembers the first album he bought: Randy Travis' Storms of Life. Turner says that it sank in that he could do this for the rest of his life before he came to Nashville because he believes that this is what the Lord put him on this earth to do and that there was never a Plan B. He also talks about why he won't ever sing about drinkin' and cheatin' -- because he doesn't do either, so that would make him a hypocrite.

Look for Turner next on The Late Show With David Letterman on Wednesday (Feb. 10) and Martha on Friday (Feb. 12).

Josh is my favorite and I’m glad that he’s everywhere. Can’t ever get enough of him! :) Haywire is an awesome CD!

Alison, you’re surprise at Josh being everywhere surprises me. Do we work in the same business? Hello. It’s called marketing — the P.R. Machine, and Josh has a good one, is in full gear.

Josh is the real deal. Not sure about the whole “this is what the lord put me here to do” thing — there are thousands who feel that way about lots of things but never succeed, so I don’t buy into that mentality.

    Haywire is a good disc.

Josh Turner is everywhere and it is a great time to be a Josh Turner fan. Just listen to his new album, Haywire, and you will know why. Anyone who enjoys great country music will want to add this album to their collection. Pair Josh’s incredible voice with good country songs and you have a winner. The range he shows and the variety of music he has on this cd will have something for everyone. If you like good music to dance to, it is here. If you enjoy love songs, they are here. If you want songs which are meaningful, they are included.

Yes, it is a great time to be a Josh Turner fan, but then again, it is always a good time to be a Josh Turner fan. He never lets us down! Great country music from a very good person–what more could we ask for?

I just don’t get the attraction for Turner. I find him very boring, no personality, and his DEEP voice extremely annoying. If he was ugly, he wouldn’t even have a recording contract at all.

Its about time that Josh Turner was everywhere. He wasn’t really getting the recognition he deserves! All the American Idol people were getting all the attention & hogging the spotlights. I don’t find Josh boring at all! He is a real down to earth guy & not a fake.I love Josh’s deep voice & recently in all the interviews he’s been doing his personality is shining thru. Josh is such a warm, emotional guy with a quick sense of humor. I can’t wait to watch the Letterman show & Martha!

It’s about time Josh is everywhere. He not only has the best voice I have ever heard, he is funny and just a down right good person. I wish there were more like him in country music.

I got my Haywire cd yesterday and can’t stop listening to it. I think Josh is going to have a very good year. Congrats to him on having the #1 song too.

I think a lot of people like the country/gospel spin he puts in his music. Long black train is a classic song. He’s also more mature than a lot of men his age in country music. I think it’s great that he’s getting so much press.

Glad to see he respects Vern “The Voice” Gosdin. What’s with But Vern Gosdin comment.
