Carrie Underwood Takes Acting Gift Seriously
Yesterday (Feb. 4) I wrote about Carrie Underwood's acting. Well, at least the 30 seconds I'd seen of it in her "Temporary Home" video. She seems like she is really taking that gift of hers seriously. Not only has she filmed an episode of How I Met Your Mother but now she's going to be in an actual movie. Remember that little girl Bethany Hamilton, the surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack when she was only 13? This movie, Soul Surfer, is about her, and Underwood will be playing the supporting role of a church youth leader. (Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid play Bethany's parents, and AnnaSophia Robb will be Bethany and will fare much better than she did in Bridge to Terabithia.) How Underwood is going to film a movie, go on tour all over America and Canada, plan a wedding AND THEN get married is beyond me. With a schedule like that, I wouldn't blame her at all if she turned into a bit of a bridezilla.

Big Bully says:
Hey Carrie, why the long face?
Sis says:
Awesome, can’t wait for the movie to come out.She is a great actor and singer. I hope she gets to sing in this movie. That would be Awesome!!!! Go Carrie!!!!!!!!!!
bobbalynn says:
carrie you are so amazing and tempoary home video is excellent what an outstanding video and song thank you so much!
Bree says:
She will have all planned to the moment, never late for anything. Oh, how do I say this-TH is here, can’t wait for Sunday-Super Bowl- and March for HIMYM, and Tour, and wedding, and the movis scheduled for summer , then second leg of tour in fall. Wow, what a great year for her fans, wonder if Mike is as busy, well he is a hockey player and they have little time off. Bride and Groom will be great with it, as this last year they have manage to date. lol
fantasia says:
Leave it to Alison to put a negative spin on the amazing Carrie
Sami says:
Alison-thanks for the article on Carrie–I do not think it is at all negative. Carrie is my role model (after my Mom and Dad). I think she will do well. Carrie is methodical and I don’t think she would take the roll if she did not think she could do it. I absolutely love Temporary Home and the video. So emotional and we are only passing through and on to a better place. Even though I am a devoted Carrie fan I love to read articles about other artists too. Please don’t shove Carrie in everyone’s face like Taylor was pushed in our faces. We love hearing about others also like Brad, Keith. Miranda, Trace, Reba, Martina and a lot of others. Thanks
Lillian says:
Carrie never seems rattled about anything. She probably has the best publicist who handles her schedule. she seems to take it all in stride. This is her moment and she knows it. There will be plenty of time for rest. you go girl
8charlotte says:
yes Carrie has a very busy year ahead of her,but not to worry I am sure Carrie can handle it.I am sure Carrie is going to be great in the movie. And down the road Carrie can add acting to her many talents. This very talented young woman can do anything that she sets her mind to.Can not wait until Sunday to hear Carrie sing the NA.Good kuck on your tour and your up coming marriage.
me says:
I doubt Carrie could ever turn into a bridezilla or any other kind of monster.
Ashley says:
Can she act?
margo says:
As far as I know, Carrie has received many offers to play on some movies before but she declined. Upon read Bethany’s book, I understand why Carrie decided to accept to be part of this movie. This is going to be an inspirational movie and huge message for young generation. That’s what I love from Carrie; she’s so selective and not greedy. I think this is the kind of movie that she’ll be proud and happy to show to her kids later.
straitfan1 says:
haha of course i wondered how long it would take taylor fans too attack, yeah flower i bet carrie said aww man i want to copy taylor so bad.lmao
OH YEAH BIG DIFFERENCE: CARRIE WILL BE PLAYING A YOUTH LEADER, TAYLOR PLAYS SOME TEEN GIRL IN LOVE OR SOMETHING:IDK PROB JUST LIKE ALL HER SONGS LOL
Sami says:
Carrie is a sweet, humble girl and I am sure she will be ok. She has received many offers to do movies–but I think this role is just right for her. Taylor fans–please don’t bash Carrie. Carrie has defended Taylor before and she would not want her fans to bash Taylor. She does not like that. She never says an unkind word about anyone. It is ok to be angry with Borchetta because he took a shot at Carrie. I think Kelly Clarkson said all we need to say. It makes Bochetta look like a jealous, unrespectful jerk and he sounds just like the bashers.
rosyz says:
Well said Sami. After all the criticism she got from being an AI winner and all the bashing of jealous non fans of having a boring personality; she remains humble, appreciative and nice and just continue to get better at what she does. She is an inspiration.
Kate says:
If Mr.Borchetta only knew how ridiculous he sounds. No studio engineering can fix what he said unlike the studio fabricated vocals of his star. But I think the ruse is up, Mr.Borchetta.
Randy says:
What’s up with the picture? I agree BB, she looks pie faced in that picture and why is her head look so big compared to her body? That girl has a big head! Very strange, but I like a big head girl
Jen says:
I think Carrie looks beautiful and I’m so excited to see this movie. Carrie herself said she had been offered other roles in movies but when she read this story..she had to do this movie. I think she was really moved by this young girl’s story. It is an exciting year for Carrie fans. We love that she is doing so much this year and we get several opportunities to see her. Thanks for the blog!
Robin says:
How is Carrie copying Taylor by being in a movie? Is Taylor copying Tim McGraw or Toby Keith or Kris Kristopherson.
The character that Carrie is playing is actually a large part of the movie. Also, the character Carrie is playing has more substance.
So, while I don’t like Taylor’s music, I think her acting is just fine. But, that has nothing to do with Carrie. I guess Carrie copied Taylor with the variety show. Oh yeah, Taylor hasn’t had her own show.
CareBear says:
Here comes the little kids (Taylor fans) wanting to START a fight again. Jealous things.
Carrie’s role is a very good role, not a role about a girl falling in love. Taylor is all about boys…
Peacock Queen says:
I am looking forward to seeing this movie. It is a beautiful and inspirational story and I know Carrie will be great. This is simply another opportunity for a gifted entertainer.
Robin makes a very good point. Jerry Reed, Randy Travis, Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Marty Stuart, Levon Helm Billy Ray Cyrus, Dwight Yokum (just to name a few I can remember off the top of my head) have all had acting jobs in addition to the artists Robin listed. There is no sense in crying “copy cat” when it has long been a wonderful opportunity for country artists to branch out into other areas of the entertainment business.
barb b says:
some of you stop calling carrie names
it is high time you neg people leave
her alone and a beautiful bride she will
be good luck carrie and mike on your weeding
Ashley says:
What the heck? No one attatcked Carrie. She’s never acted, to my knowledge, and all I asked was if she can do a good job. Taylor swift has nothing to do with it I didn’t even mention her! You guys are way to oversensitive read the posts no one brought up Taylor. I hope carrie’s movie does well and that all of the attatck dogs get called off.
wade says:
no ashley flower attacked her.. but her comment has been deleted for some reason
wade says:
it was after your comment hun
Peacock Queen says:
Not so quick on the draw, Ashley!
The “attack dogs” were not referring to your post questioning if Carrie can act or not. There were some posts attacking Carrie that have since been deleted by CMT. Her fans are not attacking anyone but defending an artist against some unecessary and senseless posts. Your original comment is still here, so obviously you didn’t say anything that would merit having your comment deleted. No one was referring to you.
Robin says:
Ashley - no one was talking about your post. Someone else made a nasty little comment that included about Carrie “copying” Taylor that was deleted.
Kate says:
Let’s not forget to add Willie Nelson to the ‘actors’ list.
Anybody seen Carrie’s rehearsal of the NA for the super bowl! It is fannnntaaaastic!!!!
marge says:
surgarland you say you dont when people bash people but you just bashed carrie and not everoyne bashes taylor personally i could care less what taylor does
Bradfan says:
alright guys lets not go down to flowers level and bash taylor. love you carrie fans and i’m not even a carrie fan i’m a brad fan. But whenever carrie fans say they have your back they mean it.
barb b says:
that is so mean calling carrie a
pie face what is wrong with you
people you are not happy unless you
talk about carrie she happens to be
a beautiful human being
8charlotte says:
Sugarland Express,I do not know where you get your info.Carrie sings about various topics in her songs. She also sings with real emotion and feeling.I am not going to get into a debating match with you.Carrie’s success tells the real and complete story of her country music career. Her latest album “Play On” is her best yet in my opinion.Maybe you should sit down and listen to this album song by song and word by word.Actually you should do the same with the 2 previous albums of Carrie’s.Every remark I have read that you have commented on about Carrie has always been negative and rude.Reguardless what you say and others Carrie is an excellent country music singer and will be a good actress and she is one of the best role models our young could have ever hoped for.I did not get to read flower’s remark about Carrie before it was deleted, but I am not surprised flower never has anything good to say about Carrie, but I still do not understand why we all can not voice our opinions and do it in a polite manner and agree to disagree in a polite manner, afterall we are bound to have differnt opinions about our favorite singers. We are all supppose to be adults,so we need to act like adults. If we do not then you can not be surprised when you are going to get told off so to speak.I for one can not wait to see Carrie’s new movie and her performance in the tv show HIMYM.I know she will be good in both, afterall the variety special was outstanding, and guess what she did acting in that also.
TONY says:
Dear Carrie.I just seen your video Temporary Home and it was the most heartwarming video I have ever seen. You should write more songs about real people. The world needs an angel like you to give people hope for the younger generation to look up to.YOUR THE BEST SECRET admirer
Mike B says:
Carrie a bridezilla? Not a chance. She is way to sweet and down to earth. She is fantastic in every way!
michku3 says:
Carrie will do an amazing job in this movie. It is definitely one I will go see.
Sandman says:
Carrie will be amazing on today’s super bowl event. She sings the NA so good it is actually inspirational. As far as her acting is concerned, she will also excel. She is just a naturally talented individual. But I can’t let an opportunity go by without ragging on Taylor. did you hear that awful rendition at the Grammy’s Man this girl just cannot carry a tune if her live depended on it. How she got an award for anything to do with singing is beyond me. CARRIE RULES!!!!
Wanda says:
I just read that carrie will be singing at the cma fest this summer and she called a 15 year old fan to let her after the girl emailed cma requesting carrie to perform this summer young and old love her congrats carrie on your all you have achieved
William says:
Sounds as though Carrie has been listening to Taylor Swift lately. Her National Anthem was way pitchy and all around the notes. Compared to the expectaions, not a good performance at all.
Gen says:
I thought Carrie would be better at the Super Bowl, a little pitchy and what was that at the end? I had to laugh when I read a tweet saying “Carrie Underwood was dressed like she was going to pop a helmet on to get shot out of a canon after the Nat’l Anthem“.
barb b says:
already criticizing carrie singing
the national anthem another jealous person
dont you people have anything else
to do than put carrie down you people find
fault in everything she does her white outfit
was perfect for florida i like to see you get
up and sing for millions of people until then
shut up this is for gen she was good at the
super bowl in my opinion
Gen says:
barb b…I like Carrie, I was just a little let down. She was good but I thought she would be better, no big deal.
Wanda says:
Even on a bad day she atill rocks most be the air cause queen was pitchy as well buty she rocked too
Robin says:
She was pitch perfect in the National Anthem with the exception of the final note (”Brave”), she started on the correct note and went slightly flat. No other pitch problems existed. If you call one note a half note flat - pitchy, then Nashville is in trouble.
More specifically Big Machine Records superstar may find a “good” night impossible to find.
Raymond says:
She was pitchy in more places than that Robin. Definately not up to the level of hype that surrounds her. You obsessed fans don’t put your idol worship on such a high pedestal. That only means a harder fall.
Gen says:
Robin…I am sorry if you think pitchy means she was a half note flat, that would be bad, she was just a little off maybe a 32nd of a note, no big deal to me but when people like to talk about perfection, when will this end.
Wanda says:
the fact that she sang it live without music makes it awesome to me i cant sing if someone sang ifor me so i thought she was good
Jeff says:
“Sweet”, “humble” and “down to earth”? I think the team who is creating and maintaining Carrie’s public image all need a HUGE raise. She may have a great voice but this is hardly her true personality. Just like most thought Tiger Woods was a quiet family man… I’ll be curious to see if she can act b/c if it’s anything like her holiday special, she better not quit her day job.
Brian says:
Can’t you Carrie fans (or any fans for that matter) see that the naysayers are here to stir up dirt? They’re pitiful excuses for human beings who don’t have anything better to do than spew their negativity. They get their rocks off doing it. They want you to respond and defend…it’s what they live for.
Try ignoring their comments and I guarantee they’ll slither off leaving their slime behind them.
Alan says:
A half note flat???? Robin you have no idea about pitch and notes. There is no way she was a half note flat. You are tone deaf. A tin ear.
The Real Jeff says:
Really, Jeff? Because you know her personally? I have met her three times, once in Hamburg, NY, once in Syracuse, NY and once in Nashville, TN at the CMT Festival. She was never anything but gracious and humble.
Her first tour after American Idol, she sat for over 3 hours after her concert at our Fairgrounds in Hamburg, NY (the largest County Fair in the country) and signed autographs for EVERY person standing in line. Not one person went without an autograph. She did this at EVERY concert for that tour. She was gracious and lovely to everyone. I was toward the end of the damn line and my feet were about to fall off after standing for 2 hours, but my 20 seconds with her were great. She is humble and has 100 reasons to be a Diva…yet she’s not. When I showed her the picture of the Min-Pin that I rescued (that looks strikingly similar to her dog Ace, even though they are different breeds), she screamed “OMG, I want him! He’s SO adorable. You did a wonderful thing.” That was at the CMT Festival. Every celebrity has a bit of an ego, but hers is, AT MOST< minimal.
Paul says:
The real jeff must not understand this celebrity thing at all. Just as it is Carrie’s job to sing, it is also her job to sit for hours signing autographs, posing for pictures and being nice to everyone. This is probably more important than singing ability when it comes to being a celebrity. Her bosses are telling her what to do, and she has to do it, whether she wants to or not. It’s not her choice. It sells records and that’s the bottom line.
TITANSFAN says:
Can’t wait to see the movie. Carrie does such a wonderful job no matter what she does…
Wanda says:
I agree with brian if you respond they just keep coming back for the mist part if you ignore the behavior it goes away good job carrie and not all cekebrities are willing to sign for hours
S says:
How fast do you think it would have taken Alison to blog about Taylor if she had sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl?
I see that Carrie has inspired a new Sesame Street character named Carrie Underworm. Taylor will probably want a character created after her. After all, I’m sure it’s always been HER DREAM!
****
Robin says:
Alan - you’re right - she was less than a quarter note flat. I actually have perfect pitch.
K says:
I’m sure Carrie will do an excellent job in “Soul Surfer.” I have high hopes for her after seeing the new video- she can bring true emotion and feeling to anything she does.
I’ve heard it’s an inspirational and very uplifting story. It’s not surprising that she would accept a role like this, considering the emotional and positive stories reflected in her music.
Who are all of you to judge Carrie’s personality? None of us know who she “really is,” regardless of whether you had a good or bad experience in your encounter with her. I chose to belive she is a positive and spirtiual person; it seems to be reflected in her values, music, and roles that she choses to take outside of music. But who knows; all of this certaintly could be an act. Bottom line is, we will never know that, and we can only make assumptions based on what we hear, read, and know as individuals. Most of the “information” we hear is from gossip sources, which makes it harder to confirm. You could very easily have a few friends that have met her who said she wasn’t the nicest, while there could be lots of others who could say they have met her both in and outside of business situations, and she was very down-to-earth. I have heard both types of gossip, but I chose to enjoy Carrie’s music and make my own assumptions rather than letting her personality dictate my opinion of her. She is extremely talented, and I wouldn’t want to stop listening to her because of something negative I’d heard from someone else.
I think Carrie did an average version of the National Anthem, but it was far from her best. I think she deserves major credit for getting up in front of the biggest audience of her career and giving a performance that was 100% live. That takes a lot of integrity, especially knowing all the various things that could go wrong. I think the nerves got to her, and she probably didn’t chose the best place to give a shakey performance, but it was still pretty darn good. Any other performance Carrie has ever given of the anthem has been great; it’s obvious she can hit the notes on-key and with ease. I would guess that nerves and several outside factors played a role in this performance; we know she can deliver perfection, as she does 99% of the time in various settings.
8charlotte says:
I am not surprised that all the bashers are out to critize Carrie after she sang the NA at the superbowl.Actually I thought Carrie did a wonderful job on the NA.Afterall that is a song that is not easy to sing. Why don’t you get up there and sing it?As for Carrie’s outfit.I thought she looked awesome, again somthing else for you bashers to critize.Doesn’t matter Carrie was great and looked fablous. The upcoming movie will be good.Carrie has proven that she can act,the variety special was awesome and she did great acting in that.So all you bashers can gripe all you want, fact is Carrie is back with a force and there is no stopping her.

verna charter says:
I get a kick out of all the chit-chat. The bottom line is no body is perfect, but Carrie is sure doing a good job. Her success speaks for itself. People will critize - that goes with it, sometimes, very meanly; that just shows jealously. I, myself, admire her for being such a great role model for the younger generation. Her deep faith will see her through any trials her success may bring. God bless you, Carrie.
barb b says:
