Jewel's Seeing Stars in New Valentine's Day Video
I think Jewel's world premiere video of "Stay Here Forever" may just be the first country music video featuring McDreamy, McSteamy, Ashton Kutcher and Queen Latifah. That's because Jewel's new single is featured in the upcoming film, Valentine's Day, featuring all of these big-name actors and many others. The video depicts the singer-songwriter as a floral designer, daydreaming of escaping with her love -- perhaps to Italy to visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Meanwhile, as she continues to romanticize, scenes from the motion picture are fittingly sprinkled throughout. Her lighthearted new single seems a perfect fit for the movie's soundtrack, which also features Taylor Swift, Willie Nelson and the second-season winners of Can You Duet, Steel Magnolia.

JEWEL TOTALLY ROCK’SSS

So, what gives you the impression, inclination or reason for this being a country video?
D Trotter says:
Beyonce has won about 20 or 30 Grammy Awards, it seems. Carrie has a bunch, now Taylor. Jewel none.
That’s just mystifying to me. I’ve never heard anyone — and this includes everyone favorite, Carrie — who could so easily sound near-angelic one moment, then slide so naturally into some primeval, guttural, raspy blues-honkin’ that would make Janis Joplin proud, sometimes on the same cut (e.g., “A Life Uncommon”). Her range is just incredible, as is the purity of her tone.
It’s also odd to me that Country Music hasn’t embraceed this brilliant artist more fully. She grew up in a harsher environment than anyone in Nashville. She lives on a real ranch with a real cowboy/rodeo star. She was a wonderful judge/mentor for Nashville Star.
True, she’s done some genre-hopping, but you’d have to go to Amber Digby to find a more genuine Country album than “PERFECTLY CLEAR”. And it’s very, very GOOD Country too.
Another album, “THIS WAY”, is in my opinion one of the great undiscovered treasures. An album which sounds like it belongs to the era when people like Neil Young, Stevie Nicks and the Eagles were in their prime, it is a Country-Rock masterpiece, showcasing Jewel’s exquisite songwriting skills, her amazing vocals, and timeless songs (”Everybody Needs Someone Sometime”, “The New Wild West”, “Love Me, Just Leave Me Alone”, “Cleveland”, “Till We Run Out of Road”) filled with passion and insight.
Peacock Queen says:
I agree with you Trotter. Jewel wrote “Life Uncommon” and oh my goodness is it one of the best songs I have ever heard! Why no Grammy? That doesn’t make any sense to me. Also, I like this song, and I for one am looking forward to seeing “Valentine’s Day.”
D Trotter says:
PQ, despite our different views on Taylor, you are rapidly BECOMING ONE OF MY FAVORITE PEOPLE! As for Valentine’s Day, yeah, I am looking forward to it, too.
Funny, when I was younger I used to insist on books, movies and music that offered gritty realism and challenging, intellectual concepts. Now, a little fluffy escapism with happy endings is just fine with me. Like Bob Dylan wrote, “I was so much older then, I’m younger than that now.”
Kate P. says:
I’m not a huge Jewel fan, but I do like this…
Tomdiake says:
Hola people, Happy Valentine’s Day!!
