Taylor Swift Sings for Women's Cancer Research
There is only so much I personally can do to stop breast cancer. I can do my breast self-exams. I can donate money. And I can gently encourage my friends to get annual mammograms. But Taylor Swift has the power to really make a difference. And so tonight, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, she will be doing an acoustic performance at An Unforgettable Evening for the Women's Cancer Research Fund.
Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks will be there. Kate Capshaw and Steven Spielberg will be there. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will be there, too, to pick up their 2010 Courage Award for their longtime support of the group's efforts. And I'm sure countless other celebs because this event is part of the Entertainment Industry Foundation.
But beyond just being an event for the beautiful people, this is a good, good cause. Part of their mission is to get women to detect cancer early since most women who die of breast cancer do so because they found the cancer too late to cure it. So this group has something called a Breast Cancer Biomarker Discovery Consortium which is bound and determined to find the exact proteins in our blood that may signal the presence of cancer.
It's important work, and I'm just glad that Swift's performance there will likely shine an even brighter light on it. She may only be 20, but she is a woman and knows how important this cause is. More than 40,000 women die from breast cancer every year, and more than 15,280 from ovarian cancer and more than 3,870 women from cervical cancer. That is 59,150 women too many, in my opinion.

You said in the article that countless celebrities are going to be there but you have to mention Taylor in the headline and show her picture. And you wonder why people are sick to death of her!!!

ALJID says:
Now that’s worth blogging. Good work by Taylor Swift!
Peacock Queen says:
I think it is very nice that a woman as young as Taylor Swift understands the importance of this issue and is willing to donate her time to a worthy cause. I may not be a fan of her music, but I do believe in giving credit where credit is due, and this is a very nice gesture on Taylor’s part. Also, men can die from breast cancer, not just women, therefore this is very important and extremely worthy of a blog. Thank you, Alison.
WHO CARES??????? says:
So sick of ts! Its like nobody gives money or time or anything else but her! Alison and cmt ALWAYS talks about her and nobody else that gives!
barb b says:
you are so right
ALJID says:
@WHO CARES??????
I may not be a fan of her music or horrible live singing but these kind of acts for good causes are definitely worth blogging.
WHO CARES??????? says:
TO Aljid!
I didnt say they wasnt worth blogging! I was saying that they always have to use ts in everything! Why didnt they put a picture of faith and tim up there! No, they put a picture of ts because she is a publicity hog!!!!!
suckithaters says:
TO WHO CARES??????? It’s because she is the biggest star out there right now, kuddos to them and her for realizing that, and using it for CHARITY!
WHO CARES??????? says:
To suckithaters!
SHE’S THE BIGGEST PUBLICITY HOG OUT THERE AND EVERYONE KNOWS SHE ONLY DOES IT FOR THE PUBLICITY!!!!
K says:
Good for Taylor and all the other artists who are giving time and money to such an excellent cause. I used to wonder what chartible organizations Taylor was involved with, but it’s became clear to me that she definatly has a passion for giving back to others. There should definatly be more artists who give back and care for others the way she does.
ALJID says:
OK WHOCARES??????, I get you where you are coming from. But what can we let this blog pass since it’s one of a few blogs for Taylor Swift that are worth reading?
NOT HAPPY says:
K- They are alot of more artists who give back and care even more than TS, but NOBODY EVER GIVES THEM CREDIT FOR ALL THEY DO OR EVER MENTION IT!!!
FLOWER- SEEMS TO ME THAT YOU ARE THE ONE THAT NEEDS TO GET A LIFE!! YOU ARE ALWAYS READY TO JUMP DOWN PEOPLE’S THROAT, JUST BECAUSE WE ARE NOT FANS OF TS!! GROW UP- SHE IS NOT THE ONLY ARTIST!!! EVERYONE HAS THEIR OPINION AND YOU ARE JUST PLAIN RUDE TO ANYONE WHO DISAGREES WITH YOURS!
gijoenurse says:
Nothing against Taylor but Tim and Faith were the one being honored there with a courage award for their work for cancer, but it is Taylor that you focus on and her picture you show. Wht not show Tim and Faith.
gijoenurse says:
What did Taylor do, perform at the show. Tim and Faith are very involved with cancer research, not only do they sponser marthons through the year, Tim’s band are also very involved. Tim and Faith every November are part of a concert and auction that is 100% for cancer research. They are hugely involved with that and their Neighbors Keeper Foundation. They got this award why not make the article about that and THEIR OWN charities that do so much good. You could of used the article to showcase the Cancer Foundation that Tim and Faith are very involved in and have been since 2004. Shine the spotlight on that.
John says:
I think it is a good that Taylor gives her time to do things like this. I would bet it was Tim and Faith that called her to help out. Anything Taylor does gets a lot of press, and charities need press. I almost feel like there are people out there who dislike Taylor so much they think it would be better if she did not help, and that is sad.
mahalia says:
I don’t dislike Taylor Ilike her, but she was there to just perform, why not the people that were being HONORED for actually being involved in a real life charity that is very active in cancer research and helping people. Why not an article on the two that were given the award for all they do, Tim and Faith. Why not shine the spotlight on the charity that Tim and Faith are very active in and spotlight it NOT just Taylor performing.
Candy says:
Maybe you all should blame Tim and Faith for inviting Taylor to sing, I mean there is a whole bunch of Country artiste they would have invited to perform instead they pick Taylor. One reason that comes to mind is RECOGNITION. Like john said charities need press and TAYLOR IS THE PRESS.
Katie says:
I think it’s really good that Taylor, Tim and Faith, and all the other celebrities are spending their time and money on such a good cause. Rather than picking on the author of this article and trying to tear down certain artists, why don’t you actually READ THE STORY about how many women die because they catch cancer too late, and think about what you can do to help raise awareness.
flower says:
let’s just give taylor, faith and tim credit for helping out, who cares who is on the front page, they are all giving their time to help out!!!!!!
D Trotter says:
Well-stated, Katie.
sue says:
If Alison would have put Faith and Tim on the headline would any of you haters looked I doubt it. She knew what she was doing when she put Taylors name up there. Everyone of you came running to put her ddown. Haha funny how that works and none of you are wise to it.
Robin says:
This is a crazy world. I mean, you may or may not like Taylor as an artist, but does everyone have to criticize every single little move she makes. I mean, she donates her time to raise money for a worthy cause and everyone is griping about that too?
You people give me a headache.
WHO CARES!!! says:
EXCUSE ME!! I give my time and money to cancer research also. The difference is I dont have to see my name in lights when I do it because if you people had any sence you would know when you give to charities it is suppose to come from the heart NOT TO SEE YOUR NAME IN LIGHTS!!!!
hotelmotel says:
barb b - I don’t care if its “all about PUBLICITy she has to be in the spotlight…” Fine! She’s a star. Getting publicity is part of her job. She does it well. And if she is just doing this charitable thing to get publicity, well, so what? Whatever her motives, she is doing something good. That’s praiseworthy.
bkbs says:
tim and faith are getting an award and the lead is about swift performing, please she isn’t all this important to this cause, seems to me the people getting the award would be the lead story!
S says:
CMT’s main focus seems to be on Taylor. People who go to the other music channel’s web site don’t seem to be as enthused about Taylor as the people here.
For example, a few weeks ago they did a poll about which Country music star would you like to be neighbors with. The choices were Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, or Keith Urban. Taylor came in dead last with about 5% of the votes!
Now they have a poll asking which album do you think will win the Grammy for Best Country Album? Right now Keith Urban is ahead with 51.1% of the votes, George Strait is 2nd with 24.1%, Taylor Swift is 3rd with 17.6%, The Zac Brown Band is 4th with 5.6%, and Lee Ann Womack is last with 1.6%.
Just for the record, I hope Keith Urban wins the Grammy for Best Country Album!
bkbs says:
would it not be a good thing for lee ann womack to win? what a great country singer she is.
flower says:
S that’s because gac is ALL about cu and no one else!!!not that I care but the times I go on there it is all about her and some of you might say that about taylor but you would be wrong because anything cu does cmt has it on front page just like taylor, but over on gac most articles or countdowns or whatever is about cu and no one else!!
flower says:
who cares, I like alot of artists like keith, faith, tim, martina, reba, dolly, kellie, taylor, kenny and so on!!! get the point!!!!and cu is pop and country example cowboy whatever, last name just to name a few even the vh1 said they were pop country !!!! so you think what you want but I no the facts that is what they said when those video’s were on vh1!!!
Wanda says:
Fkower i am on gac alot and and they do not focus on on particular artist they have a variety but i am not surprised you found a way to bring cu into this and have you seen the tv lately they have ts and jm an item now surely she is smarter than that
friendly poster says:
CMT loves money, GAC loves music.
Wanda says:
Cmt is a division of mtv networks that is why taylor is mentioned more than any other country artist
D Trotter says:
Apparently this event raised MILLIONS of dollars for women’s cancer research, so good work, people!
For those wondering why Taylor got so much headline/photo attention (not just on this CMT blog but all over the Net) — well, although many celebs attended, I can’t find mention of anyone else who actually PERFORMED there besides Taylor. She did acoustic live performances of four songs — “15″, “Love Story”, “Fearless” and “You Belong With Me”, all viewable on YouTube videos.
Although the amateur videos often sound a bit muffled, you can still hear the performances pretty well, and they provide still more evidence that Ms Swift can indeed reproduce her recorded vocals remarkably well in a live setting. Go listen.
wanda says:
iam glad to hear they raised millions for cancer my grandfather died of lung cancer, my grandmother of pancreatic cancer, aunt of liver cancer and uncle from brain cancer so kudos to all who help research from cancer to parkinsons and genetic research.
