Jimmy Wayne Faces Freezing Conditions on Walk

Posted: January 6th, 2010 at 4:59 pm  |  By: Chris Parton

Jimmy WayneJimmy Wayne is almost one week into his walk from Nashville to Phoenix, and so far he's traveled a chilly 80 miles. He's walking in an effort to raise awareness about homelessness and at-risk teenagers for HomeBase Youth Services, but the weather is not cooperating. The recent cold snap has dropped temperatures in Tennessee into the teens, making it hard for Wayne to keep warm at night with just a tent and sleeping bag. In fact, it got so cold that his management team asked him to spend the night in a motel. But luckily, he's been getting a lot of support from fans and well-wishers on the road. (See photos.) He's been receiving messages on his Twitter account, and some nice folks have met him to buy meals. He even found a care package left for him along his route. Still though, it sounds like he could use all the help he can get.

I wish he were coming my way. Jimmy would find more than one care package and a hot meal! Jimmy was homeless as a teenager. I have a great deal of respect for him for how he turned his life around and made something out of himself. I am glad CMT is giving him some recognition for this venture. It is well deserved.

Jimmy, I met you about 4 years ago in Denver. God was with you then, and I’m sure you know he is with you now. Stay strong, stay warm, and know your efforts will change lives. MD

I think what you are doing is awesome ! I was not aware that teens were put out on the streets after they turn 18. I just assumed people would want to keep a child after they bond with them. 18 is still a child in many ways. I have a 18 and 15 year old. Please put up more on your site I bet there are many people (like myself) who would love to do something to help. No-one (especially) a child should ever feel like abandonded. Bless you on your travels. LG

Hey sweetie….your doing wonderful! You have so much good thoughts and prayers always being sent to you.Glad to know your out there bringing awareness to the plight of kids aging out of the foster care system.I love helping kids. You make people aware of what we may not have been, and that can only lead to us all coming together and networking to help.It is a noble and very worthwhile cause and I’m glad to say I have met someone who’s making a difference.Stay warm, and healthy and I’ll see you when your back up this way, can’t wait!

Laurie, sounds as though you know Jimmy personally. Please tell him there is this old bat on a peacock ranch who streams his videos and cannot stop singing “Do You Believe Me Now.” Also please tell him that he is respected by that same old bat more than he will ever know. Thanks!
