Carrie Underwood Poses Fur-Free for PETA Ads

Posted: December 30th, 2009 at 12:00 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Carrie UnderwoodBefore this week, this year and this decade are officially over, Carrie Underwood is gonna squeeze in one last good deed. She's working with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and has joined fellow classy chicks Tyra Banks, Oprah Winfrey, and first lady Michelle Obama for this new Fur-Free and Fabulous campaign. (Not to be confused with PETA's "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" campaign that some celebs have signed up for.) All these women are pretty vocal about their refusal to wear fur in any way, shape or form. So when Underwood's watching soon-to-be-hubby Mike Fisher's hockey games, she will just have to find other ways of staying warm at all those cold, cold ice arenas.

Carrie is a class act. Not only does she have a out of this world voice. She is beautiful with awesome standards and morals. Carrie is a all around entertainer. She is the kind of roll model I want my kids to follow.

Carrie is extremely talented. Unfortunatley she is getting side tracked from what put her there. Between the risqué performances and this she has lost my vote. She was a great role model. Now she is just another performer pushing her agenda and listening to those that want to bring down our good role models. Very disappointing.

I love you carrie. You are such a great role model and a great performer. Don’t listen to the bad things other people have to say about you…they are just jealous. Have fun and keep doing what youre doing. I can’t wait to see you in Hamilton, Onatario, CANADA. The play on tour is going to be amazing.

She didn’t pose of that ad, there Alison. PETA put the add together on their own. Carrie has said repeatedly that she has nothing to do with PETA, and I don’t think she can go back on that. If you Google it, she has that royal blue knee length dress she wore to the CMT awards one year.

I think Carrie is a great role model and person. I think she’s a really good artist. But, I am now officially confused about her stand on poor treatment of animals. There is an article that talks about “things we didn’t know about Mike Fisher” and one of them was that he is an avid hunter.

She said one time that she has no problem with people who are not vegetarians as that is their own choice, but she could never imagine kissing someone who had eaten an animal. Mike’s an avid hunter so I hope he eats meat and doesn’t just do it for sport. She doesn’t have a problem marrying someone who is an “avid” hunter and who very likely eats meat? I mean, it’s her choice, I’m not trying to critisize her on personal choices, but I am confused about her stand. If she’s going to be an animal activist that’s fine, but she should probably think about clearing this issue up.

the h1n1 joke, hmm i hope she doesnt cater to people like you who take that stuff seriously.

Carrie was an A student in high school, graduated valedictorian, was magna cum laude in college, and went back to finish even after she won american idol. She donates money to charity, works extremely hard to maintain her career, and says numerous times her songs are meant for fun only and she does not condone violence of any kind.

I dont know how out of touch one can get.

I love Carrie! I actually just got my tickets in the mail today for her concert in April. One of the main reasons I’m a fan (other than her music) is her compassion for animals. However, as a huge animal lover myself (and vegan), I would NEVER consider dating a hunter like she has. I personally think people who can just kill innocent animals like it’s nothing have mental issues, whether it’s for food or “sport”. But who knows, maybe he has compromised and won’t hunt anymore.

    Timothy and Veeta

It appears that both of you have a hard time distinguishing between make believe and reality…But I have a funny feeling that that occurs only when it’s Carrie you are dealing with…..

    Robin

Keep in mind that Carrie’s parents and sisters are not vegetarians, Carrie’s father is an avid hunter as well and this did/does not affect their lives in a negative way…Carrie has stated many times that not eating meat is her choice and it is not her goal to interfer with the choices other people make…she has her preferences and other people have theirs…she obviously doesn’t hold the choices people make against them just because they are different than hers… and I’m sure she expects the same courtesy.

As for the comment about kissing a guy who has eaten meat, I’ll bet Mike will make sure he brushes after every meal,

I really do respect and admire Carrie Underwood. I believe she is an amazing vocalist, and as I listen to the radio for many hours every day, that is exactly what I want on my radio. Someone who can actually sing. And I also love and have adopted formerly homeless or rescued animals, so that is just another reason why I admire Carrie. My father hunts, always has, as that is his right.

I agree with Rita and Kate. I have been all about individual musical taste on this site, but it seems to be falling on deaf ears. If you like an artist, then you like them. If you don’t, you don’t. I don’t always agree with some of the comments I read on this site, but I do respect everyone’s right to their opinion and their right to voice their opinion. What bothers me is when someone comes on here and decides it is appropriate to call an artist or a fellow blogger a derogatory name, become horribly spiteful, or just plain mean. Do you have to do that in order to get your point across? NO. You do it because you are an angry person, or your parents failed to raise you properly.

What is truly amazing is that the very people who post the most hate on here refer to the ones who do not as “haters”. It’s just not necessary to resort to that behavior. I would bet that very few, if any, of us who blog on here actually know these artists. We are fans of their music. It would be good to keep things in perspective when replying to a post.

I don’t want to sound mean because I like Carrie a lot. One of the most talented “idols” ever, and I believe the highest selling. I admire vocalists, like Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Martina McBride and, of course, Carrie who can REALLY sing. “I told you so” is amazing. I don’t like electronically enhanced music or showy gimicks in place of quality singing.

Unlike Shania and Taylor Swift (neither of whom I am comparing vocally to Carrie) who have had lots of performance experience growing up, Carrie literally has earned her chops right before our eyes. Some of the “risque” stuff someone else alluded to I think is unnecessary for her to “find her voice.” She HAS the voice. Sometimes the way she stands on stage with her pelvis sticking out just doesn’t seem to fit the classy singer that she is. I imagine it is difficult going from small-town singer to world-stage performer and it takes time to get in your groove. She said in an interview recently that once she completed “idol” she was basically on her own, which must have been hugely roller coaster like to adjust to. Carnival Ride anyone? I am sure her evolution is just beginning and we will continue to see great things from her vocally and performance-wise.

I hope that didn’t sound mean because I think she is great.

    Now this might sound mean:

Not to kick someone while she is down, but .. a certain individual who might be related to a guy hamed Homer and spit at Carrie with an insulting t-shirt message is probably spitting green goo out of her eyes with jealousy over Carrie’s happiness, which I am really happy for too (Carrie’s happiness not someone’s jealousy).

Happy new year to Carrie fans and best wishes to Carrie and Mike for a lifetime of happiness.

Wow, Mamm, where did you come from? You put a whole lot of logic, reason, truth, and simple common sense into your blog, AND you were respectful. I am so happy to read such a well-thought-out, extremely polite, and absolutely truthful blog that did not contain one word of hate toward any one else who comments about music on this site.

    Well done!

I agree with you. I appreciate, respect, and admire beautiful voices. I listen to the radio, and I cannot HEAR nice, sweet, beautiful, caring, kind, compassionate, considerate, glitzy, charitible, or anything else on the radio except a beautiful (or not) voice. I want to hear someone who is vocally talented, who can carry a tune, and who knows how to deliver a song. You are so correct; recording artists should be about quality singing, then everything else can come next.

Jill - like I said, I like Carrie as an artist and a person. But, since this is a public statement of hers she should probably explain her train of thought on marrying someone who is an “avid” hunter. I don’t care that she is. I happen to eat meat, but since she has made a public statement, should should clarify.

And, I DO have my facts straight. Carrie did say “she would NOT kiss someone if they just ate a hamburger”. I still have the interview on DVD. I just re-watched it and she DEFINITELY said that.

Avid Hunters-control the herd, they are conservationists, they see the beauty of the land
Carrie has personal opinions like everyone else, its just that she is in the public eye. She isnt a member of any groups. She just does her own thing and respects your right to do your own thing.

Carrie doesn’t care about being a “conservationists”. She has specifically stated that she is into animal causes for the love of the animal itself. And, I specifically said I know that she said she feels everyone has the right to make their own decision on the topic and doesn’t judge people. But, in picking your life partner you pick someone with similar values ESPECIALLY on a topic you said publicly was a “deal” breaker. If it’s not so much a deal breaker, she should explain or modify her previous public statement.

I have a life, but there is nothing wrong with questioning someone’s public comments. I don’t think I’ve been harsh about the topic in any way. Maybe some people need to get a reality check.

“One day, we would like an end to pet shops and the breeding of animals. [Dogs] would pursue their natural lives in the wild … they would have full lives, not wasting at home for someone to come home in the evening and pet them and then sit there and watch TV.”

Oh, hi, Peacock Queen. Thanks. I am going to try to not insult anyone else (in addition to other posters) too for the new year! lol

I think Carrie has the perfect mix of letting her singing speak for itself, not overexposing herself, living a ‘normal’ life as much as she can and remaining true to herself and her genre.

Of course I don’t know her personally–this is just my impression. There are some people I am so tired of seeing in the headlines, and she just seems to balance things better than they do (and doesn’t have an obnoxious publicist shoving her down our throats at every turn. Maybe that is one reason she always seems fresh and relevant and interesting). Ya know what I mean?

  • Peacock Queen says:

    Posted: January 2nd, 2010 at 12:34 pm

Mamm, Yes I know exactly what you mean, and I couldn’t agree with you more. Some publicist will run an artist into the ground because they are greedy and will push the train until it wrecks, then move on to the next big thing. Sometimes, they will push too much, until an artist no longer has a career. While that may bring relief to the people who are not exactly fans of that artist and are sick and tired of hearing about them, it isn’t fair to the people who are fans, nor to the artist themselves. It would be far better for everyone to find a reasonable balance, I believe.

I really enjoyed reading your posts. It is good to meet you. I am new here, only been here for a couple of months, so if you posted before, I apologize because I didn’t see them. That’s a good resolution, we should all try to live up to that one in 2010!

Oh, PQ — do you prefer “Peacock” or “Queen? :)

To your point about carrying a tune and delivering a song: every day, without prodding from the radio (I rarely have it on), I find myself singing Cowby Cassanova. Now that’s a tune that sticks in your head and doesn’t get old. Great “girl with a ‘tude” song!

I randomly ended up here. Not a regular. May be back depending on the topic. Nice to meet you!

OH! one more thing (or two) before I sign off.

I know someone who was an avid hunter and married someone who wouldn’t hurt a fly. I know someone else whose husband gradually became less enamored with hunting over the years. She suggested finally that, instead of bringing a gun, he bring a camera. I like that one!!!

I don’t understand eliminating house pets. My dog and cat are surely better off with me, away from predators, getting food, shelter and affection if only from a mere mortal, than they would be trying to survive on their own. While species such as elephants, tigers and gorillas are being forced out of their natural habitats by humans, why can’t people take in animals and give them a good life? Suggesting otherwise doesn’t make sense to me. I haven’t visited the PITA site; but, in the reality of animal overpopulation, I would think that the organization would want more people to adopt animals, not less.

    Okay, bye now.

Carrie is probably more educated and with honors than most of the people making fun of her. She does not through in useless words into her speech with any type of regularity.

Carrie did not make jokes about H1N1. She made jokes about the governments inability to do anything to control it within a reasonable time frame. Her jokes are about the powerful that did not use their power for the people by the people and of the people. She is not making fun of the people.

P.S. - Her fiance Mike is an avid hunter also. He has a deer antler - chandelier in his home. She doesn’t force him to not eat meat and not hunt so obviously she doesn’t care if people around her aren’t vegetarians. It matters to her that she is though. Just let her be….

Interesting that the White House has released a statement that PETA used the First Lady’s photo without concent —-and Carrie Underwood’s people have come out and said the same thing. Wouldn’t surprise me that Oprah and Tyra Banks will say the same thing. PETA used these ladies photos without their concent. Underwood has stated many times that she wants homes for animals and for them to be treated properly–that is all. Her father raised cows and she is not against people who eat meat (if this was true she would be against her parents and family—and that is not the case at all). Underwood has also stated many times that it is her personal choice to be a vegetarian–and she respects other people’s preferences to eat whatever they choose. She is a very caring and humble lady that does MANY humanitarian deeds. The world needs more like her.

She won a competition where whoever gets the most votes wins-that does not necessarily mean the person with the best voice wins-Bo Bice was better. Carrie is not very talented at all. As for marrying a hunter-this is so funny considering her love of animals. Maybe she’s marrying him because he’s Christian-this too is so funny cause why would any Christian want to hunt animals just for the fun of it. She defintely is not role model material.

That is ridiculous, maybe she doesn’t realize how many of the people that have supported her music are hunters. Country music and the country life style is very much a part of the backwoods life which involves the hunting of animals. These animals were put here for a reason and its not just for the sport of hunting. There is much more that goes into it. Hank Williams Sr. would role over in his grave if he heard about this. As information has it, Carrie is engaged to a man that hunts. I have always supported her and her music and if this is what she stands for than this is the end of it for me.

All those starving kids, all that money and fame. Why not put it to good use. Watch her ratings when the “country fans” find out shes tied in with these fruit cakes

Carrie Underwood has GOD given talent. GOD also gave us animals to keep us warm and fed…try living in the wilderness without food or water (like our fore fathers), that gave you the right to be who you are & then see how you feel about animals…………Pay back your talent…Write a song about that………….

Of course she is entitled to her own beliefs, but when she jumps on PETA’s bandwagon, that means she’s trying to influence the beliefs of others. She is saying that she does not respect the choices of the hunters, ranchers, and western lifestyle enthusiasts who have bought her music and made her famous. I have never given her a dime of my money and never will. And for the record, PETA doesn’t help animals. If you want to help animals, please support your local shelters.

Blah! Carrie Underwood is a bore! As is Oprah, Trya, & Michelle.. If it were popular to jump off a bridge all 4 of them would be in line.. Very well said Alice.. Very well indeed!

Love Carrie. Think PETA is too extreme and actually hurt their cause.

I have herd alot of stuff about carrie underwood and her link to PETA as of late.I am a country boy cowboy at heart and alot of my friends are pulling to burn her music where I’m from.Anyway I am not about jumping on a band wagon and can only speak for myself when I say I am done buying her music or listening to it due to I love rodeo and the ranching life and don’t think it is right to play country singer while giving monry to peta or trying to ban rode.So thank you ms underwood but Im on this band wagon
