Billy Ray Cyrus' Role Inspired by Dad's Photos
I've never ever heard Billy Ray Cyrus say an unkind word about his father. Quite the opposite, actually. He seems to revere the man with a genuine sincerity you rarely see these days. Now that he is playing a widower in the Hallmark Channel movie, Christmas in Canaan, Cyrus has the opportunity to kind of become his dad. "I started digging through like old boxes of stuff and finding old Polaroids of my dad from 1964. I thought, if I can become my dad -- if I can be Ronald Ray Cyrus in 1964 -- then that's this guy. Just go be your dad," he said. The movie also inspired Cyrus to write a song called "We'll Get by Somehow (We Always Do)." It feels like the song may have a little message for the naysayers out there who criticize the Cyrus family every chance they get. "The second you realize that life ain't fair, you're one step closer to moving on. But most importantly, have a vision of where you want to go and who you want to be, and no matter what the naysayers say, or no matter the negativity, you stay focused," he said. Sounds like the same sentiment in Miley Cyrus' "The Climb," only from a parent's perspective.

Billy Ray is a great songwriter. I don’t know why people have to dog the Cyrus family. They are good people, and good entertainers. I am not a Miley fan, because I am just too old to appreciate the whole “Hannah Montana” teenager thing, but I have always loved Billy Ray and his music. I am glad he doesn’t pay any attention to his detractors and just keeps on keeping on. By the way, he was hilarious on “Dancing With the Stars.” Billy Ray showed a lot of grace when he was eliminated. He later said “I would rather be a fat singer than a slim dancer” with a lot of humor in his voice. Great response, Billy Ray!
