The Greatest Greatest Hits of 2009
If you're looking for a last-minute gift for that special country fan, let me offer a few suggestions of "best of" compilations and boxed sets released this year. First of all, Brooks & Dunn's #1's ... And Then Some gathers nearly 20 years of big hits. They're throwing in the towel in 2010, so here's your chance to brush up on "Brand New Man," "My Maria," "Red Dirt Road" and "Believe" before the coast-to-coast farewell tour. Another concise collection is Kenny Chesney's Greatest Hits II, featuring a decade's worth of radio staples like "Young," "The Good Stuff" and "There Goes My Life." It also features his successful duets with Dave Matthews, Mac McAnally and Uncle Kracker. He's only playing a handful of summer dates next year so he may spend that time searching for equally enduring material.
For a few laughs, consider the double-disc set, The Best of Blue Collar Comedy, which features Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, Larry the Cable Guy and Ron White. Meanwhile, Big & Rich's Greatest Hits includes "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)," "Lost in This Moment" and "8th of November." You can also pick up a companion copy of Gretchen Wilson's Greatest Hits in early January.
To dig into country music's rich history, try a new series of budget boxed sets, billed as The Music Of ..., featuring the likes of Alabama, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Two additional members of the Country Music Hall of Fame are also anthologized in these new boxed sets: Dolly Parton's Dolly and Elvis Presley's Elvis 75 - Good Rockin' Tonight. If you're into Americana, don't miss the Jayhawks' Music From the North Country, which coincided with a brief reunion for Minneapolis' groundbreaking alt-country band. And for the bluegrass fan, check out Del McCoury's lively five-disc set of material spanning the last 50 years, most of it re-recorded specifically for this project. Also, there's a single-disc sampler titled By Request -- which certainly suits the spirit of Christmas lists.

Tim Mcgraw’s 2000 GH album has not only sold OVER 6 million, it was the #3 best selling catalog album in ALL of music for the decade. NO other Country album was in that Top Ten. His song Something Like That was the MOST played song of the decade in all of music for the decade.
His 2000 GH was truly a GH, it has been successful over 6 million WITHOUT having to put NEW songs on the album to make more people buy it. Now that is truly a GH, when you can SELL 6 million and there is NO NEW SONGS.
