Top 10 Tracks I'm Digging Right Now
On Saturday night, I met a couple (Nick and Michelle) whose first blind date had been to a Tracy Lawrence concert. Fast forward some 10 years and they are happily married with kids, and still love country music. No surprise there. But their story reminded me of how much I love Lawrence, especially his "Paint Me a Birmingham." How he literally created an image in that song of a place he loved. I felt the same way about Chris Cagle's "Laredo." And all the songs about towns/roads/rivers I've never been to in real life but feel like I have because of the country songs that have taken me places.
"Paint Me a Birmingham," Tracy Lawrence
"Laredo," Chris Cagle
"Louisiana," Tim McGraw
"Amarillo Sky," Jason Aldean
"Luckenbach, Texas," Waylon Jennings
"Pocahontas Proud," Gretchen Wilson
"Chattahoochee," Alan Jackson
"Church on Cumberland Road," Shenandoah
"Mayberry," Rascal Flatts
"Tell Me Something Bad About Tulsa," George Strait

Amarillo Sky says:
Amarillo Sky is my all-time favorite song, it’s great. Paint Me a Birmingham is also cool. Amarillo Sky should’ve gotten a lot more credit then it did. The song and the sweet music video.
Michelle R. says:
My favorites from this list are Amarillo Sky and Chattahoochee. Jason Aldean and Alan Jackson are both great artists!
Jill says:
Hey Allison, or anybody, What happened to Chris Cagle???
merlefan49 says:
Didn’t Ken Melons record Paint me a Birmingham first?
Big Bully says:
Cagle works in a bicycle shop in Tampa, Fla.
merlefan49 says:
How about “Jackson”
hotelmotel says:
New York, New York.
Love the part, “My little town blues/They are melting away/Im gonna make a start of it/In old New York.”
A song about aspiring to something rather than settling, as most of these “I’m from the Country” songs do. I like it.
