Easton Corbin Sounds Just Like George Strait
I was out late last night, and when I was driving home I was listening to country radio. As the DJ was introducing a new song, she said, "This new guy sounds just like George Strait." Before it even came on, I thought, "Yeah, right. Who could ever sound like George Strait besides George Strait?" Then after a few seconds of an intro about fishing with cane poles and some fiddle flourishes, I realized this guy, Easton Corbin, can -- and he does. The lyrics of "I'm a Little More Country Than That" are nothing more than a list of very country lifestyle choices (dirt roads, small towns, a Hank song), and how he wants you "to know who you're getting under this old hat/because I'm a little more country than that." Vocally he is the spitting image of Strait. I don't know much about Corbin because he's so new. So I'm not sure if that voice is a gift or if he's just trying hard to channel Strait. Either way, it was enough to get me to download the four-song EP.

Big Bully says:
I agree. He’s as boring as George Strait.
Courtney says:
I agree, he does sound a bit like George. I’ve heard bits and pieces of a few of his songs and I am really excited for his album to come out next year.
Granna says:
Yeah, I was listening to the radio the other night and a guy called and wanted to hear that new song by George Strait and it was A Little More Country Than That! The DJ had to tell him that was not George. I agree he does sound like George.
Patrick B. says:
george strait is anything but boring.
The Plan says:
Standing there singing cover songs in the same genre as Talor Swift makes Strait extremely boring.
Linda says:
Oh please, do not even try to compare George Strait with Taylor Swift.. geez.
He can sound similar to George, but he does not sound like George to me.
Debra says:
I don’t care if the kid sounds like George Strait. That can only be good. We need more country performers like George. Boring? Yeah, he’s boring all the way to the bank! So he’s not Mr. Flashy Pants. That’s what we love about our guy. Take that, you George Strait detractors!!!!!!
Michael says:
I agree, Strait is boring. (all the way to the bank has nothing to do with it). Swift has been exciting all the way to the bank, so what? I see nothing wrong with comparing two people in the same genre of music. It happens all the time. They chose to be in this genre.
Illinoiscountrygirl says:
I love Easton Corbin, and think he will do quite well, as Strait will continue to do also!
Peacock Queen says:
I think Strait has been boring all the way to the bank for over 25 years. That is a lot of trips to the bank! The reality is, when you have a voice like Strait’s, all you have to do to captivate your audience is sing. When you don’t have a voice like that, you have to slide down poles and roll around on stage and act like you are having a hissy fit in order to keep people interested.
countryiscool says:
I love ole George, and like his character Dusty on “Pure Country,” he doesn’t go for all the glitz and frantic rants on stage, he just SINGS! (pure & simple) I do think Easton sounds like him though.
GSTOPFAN says:
I don’t think Easton Corbin sounds ANYTHING like George Strait. George has his own great style and voice. On stage he does exactly what I go to a concert for….no way is he boring! If I wanted to go to a circus…..I’d GO TO A CIRCUS!
Molly says:
Easton doesn’t sound like the king. Easton sounds more like Joe Nichols. There will never be anyone like george.
Ryan says:
This guy does not sound like George Strait, Joe Nichols perhaps, but definitely not the King.
Donna says:
I think Easton Corbin kind of sounds like George Strait. I certainly like his style of keeping it country so far & usually when a country song has the word country in its title I’m there listening.I didn’t realize Easton has an album out I got to go buy it.
Jeff says:
I have heard “A Little More Country Than That” about 10 times in my car, and I always assumed this to be a new Strait song.
I just heard the video on in the other room and scooted in to see that it was not George Strait. It was some guy named Eaton Corbin.
I immediately googled to see if I was the only one. And sure enough, here I am.
Wow.
I guess the question the author asks is paramount. Is he a Strait prodigy… or is this one song where he’s trying hard to sound like the legend - just for PR?
The Critic says:
Thank God! I have been reading comments since yesterday about this guy sounding like George Strait, and I seriously thought I lost my ability to hear clearly.
Almost every other comment or post or article was proclaiming this guy to sound “just like George Strait” without one person saying anything to the contrary.
The song is good, and Corbin sings well, but he sounds more like Garth Brooks than George Strait vocally.
By the way, George is in no way boring. Maybe to those who have the attention span of a gold fish, it might be boring to actually listen to a few minutes of quality vocals on an (at least) enjoyable piece of music, but for most normal people it is a likeable experience.
jen says:
Very good…. I was surprised that it was not George Strait. I think his music was more similar to george, and his voice was very close. I wish him the best of luck, his tone IS good and he deserves the fortunate future. George strait is a great artist, and in no way boring(get a life or your hearing checked.) Looking forward to the new album.☻
countrymusicrocks says:
I think he definitely sounds like George Strait….which is awesome! I like his style of singing and not many other people sing like him. I don’t know…do you think Easton sounds a little like John Michael Montgomery too? That was another one that popped into my mind.
countrymusicrocks says:
OH yeah! I’m reading Joe Nichols…definitely hiim a little bit too.
jivewray says:
He’s a dead ringer for Joe Nichols. Play the videos of both and see/hear the similarities. Same style. Hear Joe sing “impossible” and it will sound like “impossibo”. He doesn’t enunciate the “ble” l sound. This is the same for the other singer. There are many other nuances shared by them.
Victoria says:
I love George Strait & i am a huge fan!! I agree, Easton Corbin sounds just like him and now he is my favorite as well :)
Cindy says:
George Strait can bore me anytime. If that’s what you call boring, I’m all in!!!
Kellie says:
He sounds like George Strait. I’ve heard this song half a dozen times or more and did’t realize until yesterday when I saw the video for the first time that it WASN’T George. The song is even something that sounds like George would sing. Joe Nichols has a similar sound to George as well, but I would say Joe sounds like George, not that Easton sounds like Joe.
James R says:
I am also in the camp of those who thought this was a George Strait single. I just listened, back-to-back, to Strait’s “Fool Hearted Memory”, Nichols’ “Brokenheartsville”, and Corbin’s “I’m a Little More Country than That”. I think that what sets Nichols apart (and unique) from Strait, and what makes Corbin sound so identical to Strait, has nothing to do with the vocals and everything to do with the musical arrangements. Corbin’s debut album sounds like he might have recorded with the same studio musicians who recorded on Strait’s late-1980’s albums and asked them to recreate that sound. In any case, he obviously has a very heavy Strait influence, which isn’t a bad thing, but it might come back to shut him down in the same way that Jon Randall got shut down for sounding like a clone of Vince Gill. Hopefully that doesn’t come to pass, because I really like this guy’s sound, even if for no other reason than to reminisce about days when country music was a little more pure and true.
Lisa says:
The first time I heard this song I thought it was a new one by Joe Nichols. I’m lovin it!
And for those of you that would say anything negative about GEORGE STRAIT is proof of one thing….you don’t know a DAMN thing about country music!!
Michael says:
I believe that everyone posting should check out Eastons’ autobiography. GAC put on a great one, it was about the “young star’s of country music”. Now when peopl say, “Easton does not sound like George”, well i have something for you. Listen to how he talks, not singing, but just talking. Then tell me what you think. For “not knowing a DAMN thing about country music, well if i need to i will anyone an actuall electronic vocal comparison to pitch, tone, vibrato and bridging. Just to quit the argument, “Corbin sounds like George”. Now that is knowing your country.
Joe Medbery says:
i live in boerne, texas and my dad works at cavender chevrolet where “the king” George Strait stops by frequently so i have had the privelage to meet him AND see him maaaaany times in concert and Mr. Easton Corbin sounds J-U-S-T like George. the first time i heard “im a little more country than that” i thought it waaaas george!!!! so for all of you that say he sounds like garth brooks and joe nichols….your very very wrong my friends =) corbin has that “twang” sound that george has and when they do a song together THAN you will all see how much he DOES sound like THE KING!!!! that is all i have to say.
Tom says:
Easton does sound like George. I’ve seen George Strait in concert and he is boring live, however, his records are great to listen to, and he certainly can pick great songs.
J West says:
This young man is really amazing he is from Gainsville, Fl I seen him play in a few small places n yes when u talk too him he does sound like Strait talking also.. His Music is AWESOME!!! I did run right out n purchase it when it was reliesed….. W
TennesseeCountryBoy says:
George straits the man, but I don’t think easton corbin will do as great as George has done, but easton corbin sounds just like george.
Kristal says:
George Strait is the King of Country!!!! I love all of his songs, and he is NOT boring in any way possible, he is AMAZING. And Easton Corbin just has that same style and a similar voice.
Kristy Riess says:
I am up in the mountains of Georgia and I rarely get Good reception or I would have known this was not King George of Country Music!!! However, when our troubador passes the hat, I hope he honors this young man!!!! For future generations!! Hey, George - let him know Wranglers is missing out on Country advertisement!!!!! If, not you - then why not Corbin?
BEV IN OKLAHOMA says:
Come on people, don’t even begin to compare Taylor Swift to George or even Easton! Lets talk talent here…Swift first of all can’t even sing. The kid sings songs that relate to 10 year olds and all she does is get on stage and swing her hair around. You call that talent. Singing live she can’t carry a tune in a bucket. I have yet to figure out what all of the hype is about her. We have legends like George and Reba and alot of others. The kid can’t hold a candle!!! She needs to go play with Hannah Montana and leave country music to country musician’s.
You people who think George is boring don’t know much about country music.
All the best to Corbin……Sounding like George is not a bad thing in any way! They can both bore me with their music anytime!!!!!
Jetteclntn says:
This Easton Corbin is the real deal. His song Roll With It is a deadringer for George Strait. This guy is a natural talent. I just love the 2 songs he has put out. A class act for sure
T.S. Eliot says:
Even though they’re both country, I wish Corbin would do a Crossroads performance with Strait. I would love to hear Strait sing “I’m a Little More Country than That.” It’s definitely a song he would have recorded.
TannerW says:
Ok i like this song of Easton’s IS good. and some of his other songs i’ve listened to are very good as well. he does have some talent that i hope to see more of, however people should not be comparing this guy to the KING of country. George Strait is, as Eric Church would put it, “Country at it’s best,” and people need to remember that. It just irritates me that people will start to say that since they sound alike, he is the new George… Ok lets get real here. Does it make sense if people say that if i look like a celebrity then i am gonna pass him up? Don’t think so.
Ashley in MO says:
Now, calm down Tanner. The kid sounds like George & there’s no denying that. I knew “I’m a Little More Country Than That” wasnt’ George, but “Roll With It” fooled me. No one’s saying he’s the “new George”. That’s like saying there’s a “new Elvis”. It’s just never going to happen. He’s not replacing anything, & I think, as his career goes on, his sound will take a few turns and be more unique. As far as George being “boring”: He’s a simple man & the world needs a hell of alot more simple men.
Mike says:
I believe that the only 100% positive way to determine whether or not Easton Corbin sounds like George Strait would be to have him sing one of George Strait’s songs, or have George Strait sing “I’m a little more country than that.” Then once one of them sings the others’ song, play them one right after the other, and analyze the similarities and differences.
Straitgirl says:
first, No one will ever take George’s Place as a country srtist. He is irreplaceable. One of a kind. With that said, I turned the radio on one day and started hearing “A little more country than that” I thought, No thats not a new GS song because his new song is (I think River of love was out at that time , I might be wrong.) anyway there was already a recent GS song out at the time, and I thought hmmm thats weird. He really sounds like George. Never really found out who it was but recently, here comes another song “roll with it”. and I thought hmmm, that sounds like George but I knew it wasn’t George, because once again, George has a new song out, “the Breath You Take” (which is beautiful but Boring for all you folks who think George is boring). SO I eventually found out this guy was really not George but Easton Corbin as we all know. The Guy will never ever ever be George and I don’t think it is his intention to ever be or replace George. But Yes, he most definitely sounds like George. I have been listening to George since 1981 when he released “unwound” and I have been listening to him and going to his concerts when ever I can affored to. The very first concert(and my most favorite concert) was done in the round and all George did was sit on a bar stool and strum his guitar and sing. I wouldn’t want him to do anything else! The Man has the voice from heaven and the personality of an angel and If that is boring, then George can Bore me anytime he wants! He’s my #1 man and always will be!
Tonya says:
George strait ( boring all the way to the bank ) and I almost guarantee he is richer than all the negative people on here bashing him!!! I am a fan of his beginning and I can say for sure that Easton Corbin DOES sound like George. George is HOT and you are NOT! Get over it, you are just jealous!
Blinded by the Hype says:
Although Easton Corbin DOES NOT sound like the George Strait of today, he does sound like King George of the past, in his younger years, especially with the songs “Roll with It”, “A Little More Country Than That”, and “This Far from Memphis”. I have Corbin’s debut album, and I am absolutely thrilled to finally hear another neotraditional country artist out there who can sing real country music, not that other pop influenced crap that Nashville and other country stations like to call “country music.” Neotraditionalists like George Strait, Alan Jackson, and Easton Corbin seem to be a rare gem these days, speaking in terms of radio airplay. It’s a shame because the radio hardly ever plays neotraditional music. They’d rather play the pop country all day because “that’s what popular.” If they only knew what others thought. I’m sorry, but real country music does not incorporate pop-filled claps, drums, rock n’ roll guitars, or any of that other crap. I guess Swift and Chesney can be blamed for changing the image of country music, although I do enjoy listening to some of Chesney’s songs. The only real talent Swift has is in the music studio and on MTV, where she should stay in my opinion.
Carmen says:
I’ve listened to Easton Corbin a couple times on the radio and at first I thought nice new song by George, but found out at the end of the song it was Easton Corbin what??? It’s the style of music that Easton sings that sounds like George would have picked himself to sing. And then the way he sings, very similar styles. Listen to the background beats for “A little more country than that” and “Roll with it” he plays guitar like George’s band would.
mike says:
If you don’t think Corbin sounds like Strait, then listen to “I Can’t Love You Back”. He may not sound *exactly* like George, but the vocal styling and tonations are pretty similar. Corbin lists George Strait as an influence on his music, and I think you can hear it. And for that matter, who wouldn’t want to emulate George?? For those who say “he’s boring”, well… he’s got millions of album sales and sold out concert tickets that prove others think you’re wrong. That’s just opinion. And who wouldn’t admire George? He’s got a great career, great music, a strong Christian marriage, and millions of fans. George is REAL country… a “Strait up” cowboy. And Easton is a 4-H/FFA farm boy with an agriculture degree. I wish him much luck!
