Tim McGraw Turns Me Off in The Blind Side

Posted: December 14th, 2009 at 3:42 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Tim McGrawIt's doing wonders at the box office so it makes sense that Tim McGraw is so pleased with the success of his movie, The Blind Side. So far it's made $150.2 million. He told the Tennessean newspaper, "It feels good. You do these movies and the reason you do them is because you read the script and you like it, but you never really know how it's going to turn out." I like McGraw and all his bad-boy music so I was a little turned off by his performance. His character in this movie is too nice of a guy. There's no cowboy in him, there's no Indian outlaw, there's no reckless streak at least a country-mile wide, and there is certainly no one comparing a woman to whiskey. I'm sure the real Sean Tuohy is very likable in real life, and McGraw did an excellent job portraying that, but it's just a little hard to watch this softer side of him after years of listening to the other side.

That’s why it’s called acting Alison. He wasn’t being himself.

The reason why the movie is doing so great, #2 this week is because the movie is so good. Word of mouth is making this a huge success. It made another 20 million this last week, they say it will definitely go over 200 million. He is playing a character, you do realize that. Its made 150 million already.

So you decide to do a blog on Tim with this as the subject, why not do a blog on the fact that Tim was the TOP SELLING ARTIST in Country Music for the Decade and #3 in All of music, with at LEAST 6 albums less than Toby and Kenny this decade.

Sandra Bullock made this movie into a huge success..not Tim. Actually the seen in the movie with Tim in his under shorts was unflattering.

The whole package of the movie made it a success. Both compliment each other in their performance and that made it so good.

I totally agree Alison. I don’t know the real Tim McGraw like you do, but I said to Tyler and Steve as we left, “I was mistaken; that must have been an another actor named Tim McGraw.” The real guy was totally lost into the character. On the other hand, his name may be what’s selling a lot of tickets!! Not that Sandra Bullock wasn’t great in it…

Sherri I agree, my friend and I turned to each other during that scene and said in unison “He certainly isn’t Toby Keith!” However, I did enjoy the movie but I thought Sandra Bullock was who made the movie worth seeing. And I like Tim, just an unusal role for him to play. But like Brosz said its acting and I thought he did just fine.

I agree with Brosz. He’s playing a character, not himself.

Small part for Tim but the movie was great!

It’s acting. Not his country persona. And he’d branch out and away from the cowboy hat.

Don’t you have anything else worthy to write? Your blog is so lame. Like somebody said, discussing the country artists of the decade could have been better.

    geez…

He’s not playing Tim McGraw in the movie, he’s playing an entirely diferent role, hence no cowboy hat, no goatee. I liked him in Flicka too.

now,for my review on this wonderful movie. yes,it was mainly Sandra who drew and draws the crowd. but Tim is really playing himself, the way he is at home with his wife. he said that it was difficult in a way because their wives are so much alike. Sean even said that Tim said there was very little acting on his part. and by the way,Sandra wanted Tim for the part. she saw Friday night lights and the director said Tim was the only choice because he was so much like Sean. so Tim was pretty comfortable with the role and with being with Sandra.he is playing the Tim his fans dont see,we are use to him on stage, but this is Tim. the movie is no.2 now only because of the Prince and the frog premiere.it still made 15.5 million. I can certainly understand why Tim is so happy about this. the whole package, all the actors made it good, not just one.

again its called acting… when Kris Kristofferson teamed up with DMX on that buddy cop movie it doesn’t mean he suddenly went hiphop or when he played the bad guy in the movie doesn’t necessarily mean he’s bad in real life.

Thus same principle can be applied in reverse. A bad guy doing a good guy character in a movie doesn’t make him a good guy.

heck even a kindergarten kid knows this stuff…

I love both Tim and Kris’ music but i can’t stand DMX

Is the writer just simply stupid? The mark of a good actor is that they shed “themselves” and take on the persona of the character they are playing. If I want to see “Tim McGraw”…I will watch a concert…If I want to see Tim McGraw as “whatever role he is playing”…then I will watch a movie he has a role in. The movie wasn’t titled “The Tim McGraw Story starring Tim McGraw as himself”. Perhaps in this internet world we live in, it’s too easy for ppl to have their 15 minutes of fame, and they will write about anything, no matter how stupid, to get their 15 minutes of fame.

I thought the movie was great. Tim loves football and the story was really special. I was wishing I was the one under the covers with him, he’s sooo sexy!

This has got the be the DUMBEST topic for a blog ever on CMT. Do us a favor don’t go to a Tim movie anymore, you don’t seem smart enough to realize he is playing a character, not himself.

As for Toby, neither one of his movies made it past a few weeks at the theater and never got more than limited released and neither one made a million at the box office.

Tim is like an afterthought to this movie. It’s like, oh yeah, Tim McGraw is in it… so what? I did not like the movie very much, and am sure it will not be a huge blockbuster after it’s first few weeks out.

The Golden Globes were announced this morning and all this movie got was best actress Sandra Bullock. If you look who she’s up against, she will not win.

He is playing a dad who is not the main character. Thats why the movie is doing so well! A good story. Probably would recognize that here!

Tim is not good in this movie. And I agree….the boxer shorts made him look like a grandfather. They should have secured an actor instead of a singer for the part.

Sports-related movies turn me off in general. Anything with Tim McGraw trying his hand at acting is just disturbing. Can that guy really act? I mean come on. The only musician I’ve seen acting in a believeable manner is Dwight Y. (Look at him in Panic Room. WOW. Scary.)
Ughhhhhhhhhh. So sick of musicians who feel this necessity to invade the big screen. Has anyone ever seen Sandra Bullock in anything that they’ve REALLY liked? Me either.
This movie seems to be the first of hers that’s getting any kind of buzz at all (and was actually nominated for an Oscar this year.) Also pretty much all of these sports-type movies are the same. They’re always these ‘down-on-their-luck’ stories about people or situations that end up amazing and successful and try to evoke the tears at some point and feelings of joy in the end. I don’t know about you all but they always come off cheesy to me and make me more uncomfortable and embarassed for the actors in the movie more than anything else.
Not to mention just boring overall. Haven’t seen Blindside, but probably might at some point (DVD). I’m already pretty sure of the reaction I’m going to have (yawn.)
