Cory Chisel, Brendan Benson Feel Renewed in Nashville

Posted: December 14th, 2009 at 2:54 pm  |  By: Chris Parton

If your enthusiasm for rock-n-roll is wavering, check out a show from either of these two guys: Cory Chisel and Brendan Benson. Both write in a way that that seems rooted in the '60s folk-rock revival -- and thus trapped in country music's halo effect -- yet reaches out to younger listeners. With much experience writing with Jack White for the Raconteurs, Benson is also helping Chisel find his own style. They share writing credits on "Born Again," a challenging self-appraisal type song that took hold of a Nashville audience at Exit/In on Saturday night (Dec. 12). Check out the music video.

It nice to see a song and video featured on the cmt blogsite with some substance. This really proves how cheesy Pop Country is. However Pop Country does a pretty good job on cheesy-ness all by itself.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything Brendan Benson was involved with that I didn’t like.

    Good song.
