Americana Songwriters Donate Handwritten Lyrics
If I had an extra thousand dollars, I know what I would buy -- a piece of country music history. Yes, I would gladly put down the money to own the handwritten lyrics of my all-time favorite country song, Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You." On Monday evening (Dec. 14), music fans will have a chance to bid on that lyric sheet, and many other favorites, during the Americana Music Association's live auction at the Tinney Art Gallery in Nashville. (Tickets are $75 and include a performance by John Hiatt.) Many of the lyrics will still be available via online bidding for a few days after the event because only a handful of lyrics will be auctioned at the gallery. So if you can envision what those beautiful words would look like hanging on your wall, have your checkbooks ready and take a peek at Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again," Guy Clark's "LA Freeway" or Emmylou Harris' "Tulsa Queen." But for the fan that prefers newer country, check out Miranda Lambert's "Dead Flowers" or Kix Brooks' "Red Dirt Road." Please, if you happen to be the lucky individual who buys or receives one of these precious gems, share your story with us so we can all live vicariously through your song.
