Josh Thompson Might Be My New Favorite in 2010

Josh ThompsonI knew I was going to like Josh Thompson about 10 seconds into "Beer on the Table," with a rowdy litany of things you can do with your paycheck (put gas in your truck, butter on your biscuit, beer on the table and more). But now that you can get his EP, which I did, I'm starting to think his music might be my new favorite heading into 2010. Like his "Won't Be Lonely Long," which starts out like some kind of pathetic melancholy ballad then turns into a Friday-night anthem about drinking an ex-girlfriend away on a neon cloud. It makes me want to go through a breakup just so I can sing this from the top of my lungs. And then there's the steel-guitar heavy "Sinner" which sounds like Kenny Chesney, Eric Church and Trent Tomlinson got together to write a song. And "Blame It on Waylon" which is a hard rocker that tosses blame all around. Like how the whiskey caused that tattoo, a Jeep and an oak tree caused that scar and Waylon Jennings is to blame for Thompson's honky-tonk ways. It's the kind of country music that made me fall in love with country music.

because he’s real. He’s lived that, been there, done that. He writes about what he knows. He is a hard working, kind, fun, all american guy. Here in his hometown, we’re very proud to know him, and we all have his ring tones, and older c.d.s.
