Lessons on Balance From Faith Hill
I've been wearing the same perfume for years (CK One, the unisex one from Calvin Klein.) And I'm not about to change now. But, I swear, I may start wearing Faith Hill's parfum just because I believe so much in what she has to say on her Web site. Especially about balance and especially around the holidays.
Let me preface this by saying I am surrounded by a whole neighborhood of perfection. Dads who cut down their own Frasier firs, moms who host cookie exchanges because they finished their shopping months ago and kids who have pressed shirts and nice haircuts and genuine smiles in their Christmas card pictures.
I am not that way. At all. So to hear Hill say things like, "It's more interesting to be imperfect isn't it?," I'm like, "Hell, yes." She and these other four women are sitting around talking about balance and how finding it is a big step in a woman's life that comes from maturity. Hill adds that it's OK to think, "I didn't do that as perfectly as I wish I would have." That is such good advice for women this time of year. I take it to mean, the snowman cookies may not look the way they do in Martha Stewart Living magazine, but so what. Imperfection = interesting.
The site also has this piece of wisdom from Hill: "I don't know that any of us can consciously do anything to keep our lives in balance, but my family is my great equalizer. ... My kids keep me grounded and are constant reminders of what should be most important in all of our lives."
All this also reminds me to listen to more Faith Hill music. Like the empowering "Take Me as I Am." And her heartfelt "Where Are You, Christmas" and every mother's all-time favorite holiday tune, "A Baby Changes Everything."

I agree with you Alison. It is so good to hear someone like Faith, who looks perfect, and has so much, tell you how important family is, and how her kids keep her grounded. She is such a good mom, always puts her kids first, and yes she readily admits that she does not always get things right. I enjoy her web site, I love her music, and I love the example she sets for women.

Why can’t women just be themselves. Faith is not the epidemy of women of the world. She’s just trying to sell a product. When are you people going to wake up?
Nor says:
Alison check out Faith’s song “This Is Me” from her Cry cd…love it!

I agree with MiMi: Faith is out there trying to sell something. That’s fine. But this particular blog loses some credibility by starting off with the perfume bit. It raises the suspicion that the blog is in part a paid advertisement, or that product placement is going on. Now, that may not be true (I suspect it isnt) but the fact that the blog reads more like an ad than independent journalism really detracts not just from this entry, but from all.
Anyhow, Faith’s “lessons” are basically empty words. True, perfection is not required, and nobody is perfect anyway. But statements like “It’s more interesting to be imperfect isn’t it?,” are not wisdom. They are extreme generalities. Besides, sometimes it may be better to be perfect (or near so) than interesting. Sometimes interesting is a bad thing. (I ate an “interesting” mean — that was badly cooked!). Faith gives no advice on when we should reach for perfection or when we should try to be interesting.
Honestly, Faith’s advice seems like a cliche designed to appeal to the soccer mom who will hear it and say, “Oh! that’s so true!” and then move on to something else before even realizing that Faith hasn’t said much at all and if anything else Faith’s comments are an attempt to butter up the listener and put her in a receptive mood to buy a Faith Hill cologne product.
Speaking about perfection - another entry pictures Tim and Faith’s house. Interestingly there wasn’t a cushion out of place, a toy on the floor, or a magazine lying around to be seen. Apparently at least sometimes Faith does go for perfection.

I think, from everything I have heard, that Faith Hill has made a wonderful life for herself. She is wealthy, she has had great success in her career, and she has had a platform with which to do good in the world, too. She also has a husband that many would consider very desirable, her marriage is seemingly in good shape, et cetera.
In light of all that I say this: Though I think Hill’s comments are basically empty statements, It seems like she has her life together and she knows what she is doing. Good for her! That’s something that deserves respect.
Me says:
She is talking like a real person thats why I like Faith.
