Glen Campbell Can't Win at New Zealand Show

Posted: November 30th, 2009 at 1:04 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Glen CampbellYou're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Had Glen Campbell canceled his recent show in New Zealand, the ticket buyers would have been royally pissed off. So he copped a show-must-go-on attitude and did his best to perform but had to stop singing when he lost his voice. (His daughters performed and he played, he just stopped singing.) But that made the crowd angry, too. I maintain that nobody's perfect, things happen and there's really no manual on how to handle the gray area in situations like this. Should the promoters have called off the show entirely and just issued refunds at the door, frustrating about half the crowd? Or should they have let some sort of show go on even with Campbell's singing shortcomings, frustrating the other half of the crowd? If you've ever been in a similar predicament, let us know in the comments section.

They never cancel Taylor’s concerts and she can’t sing at any of them. So, I guess the show must go on.

Nice to see fans of younger newer artists showing respect for the legends….i’ve seen Glen twice in the last 3 years and he put on a great show both times.

Wow. I see Glen’s face, but the talk is about Taylor. I guess since AK wrote this one, some are confused?

I think if Glenn was worried about his voice he should have cancelled.Yes a lot of people would have probably been ticked off,but they would have gotten over it.Just goes to show that Glenn tried and could not go the entire show and what happens, angry crowd.Go figure, you can not please everyone.Next time just cancel and take the time and let your voice heal, afterall your health is the main concern and please take care of yourself in the future.

Glen was recently in Texas and gave a spectacular performance. I have followed his career since the 60’s and his voice was just as strong two months ago as it was during his heyday. The man is 73 years old and still works hard to entertain his fans. That is why he tried to soldier on in NZ ~~ his symptoms obviously had a quick on-set and, right or wrong, he tried not to disappoint the fans who came to see him. It’s sad that people today can’t show due respect to legendary performers who paved the way for all the Taylor’s who are raking in the bucks and awards today with only a slight percentage of the talent it takes to become a legend!
