Jimmy Wayne Chats and Sings for Sara Smile
Good ol' Jimmy Wayne. He is giving us two very solid reasons to love Mondays, at least for today. One, his new album, Sara Smile, is out today. And two, he's doing a live video chat and sing (I just made that name up) at 7 p.m. CT to showcase some of the new music. You can catch it on his MySpace, Facebook and Twitter pages, or through Ustream. There will be a live feed to watch, and you can submit questions via the chat room. Or if you prefer to do things the Twitter way, you can ask questions there, too. It will last at least 90 minutes, so plan to be in front of your computer for a while. And he'll have his full band for the acoustic performance part of the show (which will happen after all the chatting). But here's what I will be paying special attention to:
* When Wayne talks about his affinity for Hall & Oates. Everyone has a band that inspired them, and this is it for Wayne. Signing "Sara Smile" back in 2002 got him his record deal, so I'm sure he feels like that pop classic propelled him to where he is now.
* The new song, "Things I Believe." One listen and you'll think it's a Keith Urban song, ripe with banjo and lyrics about long slow kisses. It actually IS a Keith Urban song. He wrote it, but Wayne snapped it up and makes it his own with a voice that's full of joy and soul.
* Wayne's self-taught and insanely talented utilitarian player, Jake Clayton. He plays 25 different instruments, so if they do "Things I Believe" tonight, you'll likely see him go crazy on the banjo. And if they do another great new one, "Just Knowing You Love Me," Clayton will probably be playing his fiddle hard.

I absolutely love Jimmie Wayne! In my opinion, “Do You Believe Me Know” was the best song on the radio last year.
Michelle Boudreaux says:
Elephant Ears is a wonderful song. I saw an interview with Jimmy Wayne on GAC and heard Jimmy demonstrate what happens when you say elephant ears. As I listened to the song, I couldn’t help but think about the children I worked with as a former foster care case manager. I’ve heard Jimmy’s stories about his foster care situation, and I’m happy to hear that his story had a happy ending. I was lucky enough to see Jimmy in concert at a local club, and I must say that I’d love to see him in concert again. Hopefully, with the release of his current CD, he’ll start to get the recognition he, and his music deserves. Keep making great music, Jimmy!!!!
Robert says:
This person is one reason this type of country music is the worst. I remember hearing an interview with this person, and the interviewer asked him something about Buck Owens and the song Crying Time. Wayne had no idea what the interviewer was talking about. Although I noticed the words “country music” are not used in this blog, and for good reason.
countryiscool says:
Yeah well Robert, I was around when Buck was popular and I don’t even remember Crying Time. Jimmy is a “baby” in terms of country music and not all are interested in the old-timers. I liked Conway, some Cash, and others, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the newbies. Obviously “country music” doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone. I also know that “pop” & “country” music is not its own genre, that there is Roots & Americana as well. I’m not at all surprised that Jimmy went blank. Either you like the guy and his music or you don’t. Who cares?
merlefan49 says:
Not really surprised that a newbie doesn’t know who Buck Owens and cryin time. One of the members of Cowboy Crush was asked a question about Mother Maybelle Carter. The reply from her was “Who’s Mother Maybelle Carter?”
Robert says:
I’m not surprised either, this kid does not respect country music, even though this interview was on the Opry warm up show. Justin Townes Earle is a “baby” too, so is Ruby Jane, but I bet they know about country music past and present. As a matter of fact, I know they do, because I’ve heard them talk about it.
countryiscool says:
Totally different generation,a few back even. I grew up listening to Tennessee Ernie Ford, Gene Autry, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Dean, Marty Robbins, Willy & Waylon, as well as Barbara Mandrell,Charley Rich, Charley Pride, Conway, Glen Campbell. Funny, I never much cared for the women (P.Cline, T. Wynette). But still I’m willing to bet a lot of those youngin’s at the awards show (TS) probably didn’t even know B.Mandrell that much. I only remember the name Mother Maybelle Carter, not her music. My mom liked the country music, my dad liked Classical so I listened to both.

I see a bright futher for Justin
Redmaz says:
Justin Townes Earle just won “Best New Emerging Artist” at this years AMA Honors and Awards. Today’s Roots music is in good shape with Justin, and the 1000’s of other artists. One reason I say today’s Country music is just as good if not better than ever, and it certainly has nothing to do with Jimmy Wayne and a 30+ year old song from Hall and Oates.
taylor says:
I love his singing voice
BOBBY B says:
I like Jimmy Wayne, he has a couple good songs.. I dont think its a wise choice to release Sara on radio.. This guy can sing though no doubt.
Tennesseegal says:
Robert. I like Jimmy Wayne. Maybe he hasn’t heard everything Buck Owens sang. He’s very young. “Oh it’s crying time again, you’re gonna leave me. I can see that far away look in your eyes. I can tell by the way you love me darlin. That it won’t be long before it’s cryin time.” It just happens to be one of the oldies that is a favorite of mine. Jimmie sounds really good on Sara Smile.
