Carrie Underwood Will Serenade CNN Heroes

Posted: November 19th, 2009 at 10:59 am  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Carrie UnderwoodOh great. Just what you want to see after you've stuffed yourself with turkey, gravy, cranberries, pumpkin pie and every kind of carbohydrate casserole known to man: the slim, trim and gorgeous Carrie Underwood doing what she does best. She'll be on CNN on Thanksgiving night performing for CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute. With Anderson Cooper as host, the event will honor those selected by CNN's Blue Ribbon Panel and each hero will go home with $25,000 in recognition of their work. The big $100,000 prize will go to the hero of the year, who will be announced that night. There's no word on what Underwood will sing. Probably more patriotic upbeat stuff like "All-American Girl" versus the no-good man tunes like "Cowboy Casanova." Either way, watching Underwood on TV over the holidays is something we can all be thankful for.

Of course she’s slim, trim and gorgeous. If she was heavy, fat and ugly no one would care about her. No matter how good she can sing. Fitness and personal appearance come long before any vocal ability. duh………

Fat and ugly people should not be allowed to be country stars. Part of being a pop star is looking good. Singing is just part of it, but really only a small part. There are more than enough people who look good and can sing a bit out there that there is no reason to settle for someone who looks gross just cuz they can sing.

I like the fact that Carrie is asked to perform on these kind of shows. She always comes through to show her support with her beautiful voice. She is a good, caring lady. Lucky to have her represent country music.

I agree, it doesn’t matter how she sings it’s how she looks in those hot pants!

Sherry, I agree with you completly. Thank God for beautiful voices, and Carrie certainly has one. Thankfully, there are some people on this site who understand that a vocal performer should be able to sing. The fact that she is beautiful, and she is really very beautiful, is just icing on the cake. Her inner beauty is what shines through, though, and makes her such a wonderful ambassador for country music. Talent, style, and class. Yes, Ty, we are lucky to have her in country music.

Looking forward to this show, another Carrie special performance, WTG!!!

Lets be real here shall we? She only represents pop country, and as others have said if she didn’t look they way she does pop country would have nothing to do with her.

  • Sherry says:

Can’t wait to see and hear Carrie. A true vocalist. She represents all country, especially as a member of the Opry. If it wasn’t for Carrie country music would not be the sensation it has become and Carrie is the first to truly respect those who came before her.

  • Andy says:

    Posted: November 19th, 2009 at 2:02 pm

“Carrie is the first to truly respect those who came before her”?????????? What an insult! There are 1000’s of country singer long before CU came onto the scene, and now who respect those who came before them. The whole new roots country movement is based on that fact! A genre she is not even a part of, so don’t even say she represents all country music. She’s a member of the Opry because she draws in money.

  • Kate says:

    Posted: November 19th, 2009 at 2:23 pm

She is a member of the Opry because she represents the values and the image the Opry holds. Of course she draws in money she’s a beautiful superstar who as Vince Gill says, is in demand and could be performing anywhere she wants for big bucks yet whenever the Opry beckons she’s there….the manager of the Opry Fisher stated that they don’t just ask anybody to be a member…and knows how lucky the Opry is to have someone of Carrie’s star stature accept their invitation.Carrie loves music and in particular country music she made a commitment to the Opry
    and she’s kept it.

but I suspect you know all this and just selectively forgot it.

Lets see, would those values and the image the Opry holds, be Last name, the story of a girl getting so drunk and doing some guy, as a one night stand? Or maybe, Before He cheats, a girl taking a situation into her own hands by personal property damage? Or maybe Cowboy Casanova, about a house of prostitution? Represent Underwood…represent

  • Leeann says:

    Posted: November 19th, 2009 at 3:07 pm

Billy, It’s funny to see someone get pious about Opry stars’ song topics, considering the best Opry legends famously sing about cheating, drinking and murder.

  • Kate says:

    Posted: November 19th, 2009 at 3:08 pm

    Billy,

Those all sound like mature’country themes’ to me that have been repeated with each new generation in their style.
But since you have mentioned some of Carrie’s songs how about, So Small, Jesus TAke the Wheel, Don’t Forget to Remember Me, Wheel of the World, and the most revered of all at the Opry and elsewhere, How Great Thou ARt…these are but a few and I haven’t touched on album number 3

But writing about throwing some guy under a bus and then laughing about it sound pretty sinister to me and certainly not something I would want youngster to watch with their favorite role model writing the song and acting in the video…..BUT most mature individuals know when something is ‘pretending’ ‘acting’ and not ‘real’. They know that the actor playing Tony Soprano is not really a mafioso…they know that Miranda Lambert isn’t really going to torch a guy’s house for doing her wrong..right….

man what a waste of time…go back to your fairytales and castles, their alot more real (to you)than any of these topics…

Alison–you should be ashamed for the way you worded this Blog–Looks to me like you were just asking for the haters to come out–But it is not as many haters as it looks like just a couple with several sign in names.
That Oh Great and the part about her looks being why she was asked was uncalled for.

  • Robin says:

    Posted: November 19th, 2009 at 3:48 pm

Billy - You judge fun songs of a girl who mostly sings about the positive things in life compared to other Opry members (not that I think those topics are bad).

But, you do know that Johnny Cash was an Opry member? The same Johhny that sang “Folsom Prison Blues”. The man who sang about shooting a man in Reno just to watch him die? And, then there’s Trace Adkins who loves Honky Tonk Ba Donk a Donks. Charlie Daniels who sang about dealing with the devil? Then there’s Garth singing about “Thunder Rolls” and a cheating husband getting his turn at the gun barrell? Then there’s Reba singing about being a purchased woman in “Fancy”.

All great songs, just like Carrie’s.

Now, Cowboy Casanova is about a girl warning other girls about a type of guy to avoid. The SONG is not about a house of prostitution. And, the video is not about that either. It is about bar maids in a time piece.

I think you people who says people who are fat and ugly shouldn’t be music stars are so mean because there is people out there who are like that and they need to watch what they say and its uncalled for because you guys don’t have the respect for fat and ugly people and I’m not ugly ….

lets see billy so maybe should sing about castles ex boyfriends that have done her wrong which seems like many and give up your virginity at fifteen man this sounds like country huh? theres one thing carrie can sing and she is beautiful. at least she does not throw furniture all the stage and lay down and do the moves that taylor did. that is what you see on rock where taylor needs to go. the only thing keeping her in country is her young fans not country fans.

Alison - why the negative attitude about Carrie? What has she done to deserve being smeared like this? She was the right pick to be the ambassador of country music, just as Leona Lewis is the right choice to respresent pop music. Shame, shame, shame on you, Alison!

Carrie Underwood is the premiere vocalist in music today. She can hit notes other female singers can’t touch. Of course she is beautiful but over 10 million in album sales come from amazing talent.

  • Michael says:

    Posted: November 20th, 2009 at 11:14 am

10 million in album sales come from good marketing, looks and fitness. Talent is optional.

  • Donna Skinner says:

    Posted: November 20th, 2009 at 11:17 am

Carrie is a great artist, no doubt about it. However, her attitude at the CMA was a turn off. She seems to be riding high on her horse and showing her arrogance. She tried to dazzle the audience and steal the show. How about just a little humility. I’m glad someone else won Entertainer of the year.

  • Robin says:

    Posted: November 20th, 2009 at 2:13 pm

Donna Skinner - arrogance and “riding her high horse”? That’s why she spent the evening defending her friend Taylor Swift. That’s why she was ONE of only TWO woman who clapped vigorously for Taylor when she won FVOY? And those two women were really the only one’s that had a shot at it.

She acted funny and humble all night. A kid can jump around like a jerk on stage and be all great, but a women does a comedic act with her buddy and she’s acting “arrogant”. Alot of people are jealous of pretty, nice, talented girls. They are the one’s that were hated in high school just because they were beautiful no matter how nice and humble they are.

While everyone has the right to their opinion. At least your opinion could have some sustainable merritt.

I thought Carrie was awesome at the CMAs. Her and Brad had a great chemistry and they were actually funny. I didn’t see any so-called arrogance on ner part. I don’t call arrogant, thanking American Idol everytime she wins an award. She remembers how she got to where she is and isn’t ashamed to say it.

  • Walter says:

    Posted: November 20th, 2009 at 3:25 pm

,,,Her swine flu “jokes” were disgusting., There are people dying from this everyday(even some of your own fans Carrie), and she and Paisley are making fun of it. I was a fan too. Not anymore. Nothing funny about people dying. I can’t believe they would stoop that low. You’re no hero. Heard any good cancer jokes lately Carrie and Brad? They are awful people…

  • Kim says:

    Posted: November 20th, 2009 at 3:34 pm

Wow! I am sure Brad and Carrie didn’t have a malicious intent behind the joke. And they probably didn’t even write it. It was a joke! Geesh!

  • Maria M. says:

    Posted: November 20th, 2009 at 4:13 pm

I agree with Walter. I was heartbroke when they made fun of the swine flu. My friend is gone because of it. She was a huge Carrie, and Brad fan, She voted for her every week on AI and bought all her CD’s. I was trying to escape my loss for a while by watching the CMA’s. Instead I cried for hours after their “joke”. So sad.

  • Walter says:

    Posted: November 21st, 2009 at 12:24 pm

Taylor Swift? I’m no fan of hers. That has nothing to do with it anyway. It doesn’t matter who said it. It’s disgusting. Have you had someone you know die of swine flu? cancer? aids? Why not some 911 jokes too? You think this is funny you are some sick individuals, and all you can do is bring back to Carrie vs Taylor? That’s your defense? You are scum.

  • sadie hawkins says:

    Posted: November 21st, 2009 at 3:12 pm

Yes, I’m a nurse. I see people die every day of all kinds of things, and know that humor is the best medicine. Brad and Carrie were reading a teleprompter, and the jokes were no more out of line than telling a “blondes are stupid” joke. You are abit over the top about this. Guess what. You’re gonna die one day.

  • Walter says:

    Posted: November 21st, 2009 at 3:32 pm

No more out of line than blonde jokes? You’ve got to be kidding. Blonde jokes and people suffering and dying from swine flu are bsically the same to you? So being told what to do excuses their actions? If they did it they must agree it’s funny, or have no moral or compassionate values. This is a horrific disease. You are a sick person. Maybe someone will make fun of you when you die too, but I hope they don’t. I can’t believe what a cold hearted person you are. I wonder if your patients know this? ‘nurse”

  • Leon says:

omg, You people are awful. Hey nurse sadie, next time you have to tell someones family members their loved one has died, try this. “Guess what folks? One less Christmas present to buy this year!” LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! Real funny huh?

  • Swilly says:

    Posted: November 21st, 2009 at 3:55 pm

Hey? Let me get in on this! How about this one nurse sadie? “Sorry Mr, and Mrs. Smith, but you little son Timmy died due to the swine flu. The oinkment didn’t work!!!!” But don’t worry I’m sure he’s in Hog Heaven by now!!!!!

  • Robert says:

    Posted: November 21st, 2009 at 6:46 pm

To Walter, Maria M., Leon, and any others who can’t understand a brilliantly performed parody by Carrie and Brad. The song wen’t: “Swine fluuuuu, got a fever of a hundred and two. Too bad that I don’t qualify for that vaccine”.

She was obviously poking fun, not of swine flu victims, but at the FDA and CDC for mismanaging the production of H1N1 vaccine. That has resulted in rationing to the most vulnerable groups.

It’s too bad that people of your seeming intelligence totally misunderstood such an obvious parody.

  • sadie ann hawkins says:

Robert, they don’t have the intelligence to understand

  • Walter says:

    Posted: November 22nd, 2009 at 6:52 pm

So turning this into some type of a political issue on a music awards show justifies it? You are some sick sick people. My friend died with a 102 fever, somehow I have the feeling it wasn’t a brilliantly performed parody though. I guess some people get off on other peoples pain and suffering. Anything for a laugh right?

  • sadie ann hawkins says:

    Posted: November 22nd, 2009 at 7:36 pm

Actually Walter, I’ve been laughing at your foolishness.

  • Walter says:

Scripted into the show? So that makes it right? Does somone have that much control over Carrie and Brad? If they didn’t think it was funny they could’ve have refused to say it. The only thing I can’t give a rest is my friend, but I hope he can rest in peace. Cold hearted people like you and the nurse sadie will never rest in peace. Who are you? and how do you know I haven’t gotten my shot?

The Cnn show was awesome and carrie sang change which was appropriate for the show. She is great no matter what she sings. After watching this show and seeing these 10 people who have done wonderful things and some following tragic events in their life should make us say nicer things about people including some of the artists mentioned in these articles. Carrie was praised for the work she does for her charity work and received a standing ovation for her performance. So i say lets be positive and look for the good in everyone instead of trying to find the bad.

  • TY says:

    Posted: November 27th, 2009 at 4:46 pm

Wanda-I agree with you completely. I watched CNN Heroes last night and was proud of Carrie and that she represented country music. But I have to wonder does country music honor her????? She is true to country and has stated this from the first on Idol and her words and actions show this to be true. I do not think she is given the credit for a lot of the charity things she does. There are haters and not all of them are fans of other artists. My cousin (won’t give his name-cause you would know him) said that Carrie is the real deal–but does not think that the country tv stations, etc. are giving her a fair break–only doing what they have to do because of her huge fan base. Sad when you think of the attention that one artist in particular has gotten from these outlets and that artist is not vocally talented at all (studio enhanced). But Carrie is a devout christain and God will take care of her always. It is a sad, biased world we live in with so much hate and corruption that I get afraid of what it will be like when I get married (long time) and have kids. Carrie’s song CHANGE (standing ovation) last night stated what we should all do to make this a better place for us all. There will always be haters but we don’t have to be like them. They are only hurting themselves and we don’t have to stoop to their level by any means.

Watched the show, and LOVED it!!!! It was such an inspiration what those people have done to help others! Carrie’s performance was awesome and she completely deserved the standing ovation she received at the end of the song! Seeing her cry after that heartfelt video of one of the ” heroes” causes truly shows Carrie’s personality and shows how humble she really is.
