People Country, InStyle Spotlight Country Stars

Posted: November 17th, 2009 at 12:39 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

If you can only read, afford or rationalize one magazine this month and you love reading about lifestyles of the rich and down-to-earth country stars, you will have to make a very tough choice. On newsstands right now are two tempting reads. There's the People Country "I Count My Blessings" issue with Alan Jackson and his wife, Denise, on the cover, as well as the December InStyle with Taylor Swift.

People is typically a lifestyle read and not so much about the music, so I was pleased to see sections on the 10 songs that changed Keith Urban's life, the music teacher who gave Carrie Underwood the courage to sing, the song that makes Martina McBride happy (Bach's "Air on a G String") and the story behind Dierks Bentley's "I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes."

Along with fast fashion fixes and cool gift guides, InStyle is full of things you may not have already read about Swift. Like the section on "How I Write a Song," how she never feels misunderstood and how tall girls should not be afraid of high heels. That one is ironic, because earlier in the magazine Swift's boyfriend Taylor Lautner says, "I don't like when (girls) try to get too dressed up. That's why I'm not a big fan of high heels." Good to know Swift's dressing for herself and not to please her guy.

If it wasn’t for Taylor and other “country” artists like her, there WOULD NOT even be a publication such as People Country. Artists like her and others draw attention to the genre. Why is that so hard for some people to understand?

There was a People Country magazine long before Taylor Swift came into the picture.

This is my 17th attempt at posting this message (I’m stubborn)! I wish CMT would fix their web site.

Where have YOU been tt? I’ve seen the mag before ts came along? How convenient you would point it out now. My gosh, what ELSE can we give her credit for- putting the first man on the moon, I suppose it was her idea (invitro). But hey, “it was always her dream.”
