Taylor Swift Adds Another Dimension to InStyle

Posted: November 13th, 2009 at 4:59 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Taylor SwiftAfter the CMA Awards, it is certainly no secret that Taylor Swift is in style. But now she is, quite literally, InStyle. The December issue of the thick-as-a-phonebook fashion magazine features Swift on the cover. But not just any old glam shot. This one is in 3-D. Gimmicky? Sure. But cool enough for any and all Swift fans to rush out and buy one on their local newsstands next Friday (Nov. 20). You apparently just hold the cover up to your webcam and watch Swift come to life. A red bow will unravel off the page, snow will start falling and Swift will welcome viewers with a holiday greeting. Sorry for the spoiler alert. But if it's just sitting there on the magazine rack, you may not know all the 3-D fun that's in store for you.

I might have to stop coming to this website. Is there nobody else to talk about other than Taylor Swift? There are many other talented artists such as Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Martina McBride and on and on. But about 65% of the articles and blogs on here are about Taylor. Talk about overexposure.

So Kim… does Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley or Martina McBride have a 3d cover that comes to life when you hold it up to a web cam? Sounds kind of cool, I wonder how they do it.

Last year, it was all about Carrie. I wonder who will rule 2010. That vampire/Twilight crew releasing country album? They should do it!!!

That is an interesting marketing. That magazine will be a sold out.

All I am saying is there are other talented artists that deserve attention. And Carrie wasn’t even this much in our face all the time.

I’m going to stop coming to this website and cmt also, I can’t believe that they gave the entertainer of the year to someone like Taylor Swift that isn’t even country. What fools decide who wins I mean you had some real country singers nominated and yet they pick someone that really can’t sing.I’ve been listening to country music for 50 years but if this is what country music is coming to its just a sin.

  • Redmaz says:

    Posted: November 13th, 2009 at 6:20 pm

You’ve been listening to Country Music for 50 years and you still don’t know the difference between Pop Country and Roots Country? Would you agree that Swift is as Pop Country as Miss Leslie is Roots Country?

  • Snookie Lanson says:

    Posted: November 13th, 2009 at 6:44 pm

I think Taylor Swift was a perfect choice for entertainer of the year. I mean, you all endlessly complaining about her is keeping me entertained, that’s for sure.

Don’t you know that’s what Pop Country Industry is all about? Promote to the massses what you want to sell, and don’t worry about the intergrity of the music. Just like the pet rocks of another decade, as long as sheeple buy it, they’ll keep on selling it. Just consider Taylor the new pet rock, and let the fad run its course.

Think I’ll go listen to some Real Country & Roots Country artists now. Gene Watson sure does have some new Country music that hits the spot. So does Patty Loveless, Corb Lund, and Lyle Lovett. I think Country music is as good as ever, you just got to look for it in the right places.

  • Redmaz says:

    Posted: November 13th, 2009 at 6:46 pm

Hey? you’re not agreeing with me. My opinion of course is that Swift is not country. However I accept the fact that she is a Pop Country act, just as much as I accept the fact that Jolie Holliday is a Roots Country singer.

Well said Snookie Lanson. Now try and get these mainstreamers to understand that. It’s next to impossible.

    Posted: November 13th, 2009 at 10:40 pm

Hi Mr. Maz. I don’t understand who the first part of your post is directed to, but I do agree it’s next to impossible to get the majority of commercial Country fans to understand. That’s why they’re still listening to Pop Country, even though they complain about their formats current biggest star. If they could understand about the Industry’s role in all this, they’d accept it for what it is. They wouldn’t be wasting their time listening to artists they don’t like, and would know how to go about finding Country music more to their liking. It’s out there, firmly planted in its roots, and as I said before, it’s as good as ever.

Obviously, you’re one who has figured it out. If people like John haven’t gotten it after fifty years, chances are they won’t. Doubt if you’ll get an answer back from him, because most likely, he doesn’t have a clue what you’re talking about.

I don’t care if she’s pop country, roots country, americana, red dirt or rock and roll…the point is, the girl cannot sing and cannot entertain worth a poot.

AS I’VE SAID ON OTHER POSTS IF YOU DON’T LIKE TAYLOR DON’T READ STUFF ABOUT HER. SHE’S MORE TALENTED THAN PROBABLY ANY OF YOU OUT THERE. SO JUST SHUT UP AND KEEP YOUR NEGATIVE COMMENTS TO YOURSELF. CUZ THOSE OF US WHO ARE TAYLOR SWIFT FANS ARE GETTING VERY ANNOYED WITH ALL YOUR STUPID COMMENTS. SHE IS PHENOMONAL IN CONCERT AND OH YEAH SHE TOTALLY DESERVED ALBUM OF THE YEAR, VIDEO OF THE YEAR, FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR, AND ESPECIALLY ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR. TAYLOR WILL BE DOMINATING NEWS EVERYWHERE FOR A LONG TIME UNTIL ANOTHER YOUNG PERSON STARTS IN COUNTRY MUSIC AND IS AS SUCCESSFUL AS HER. SHE IS A BLOND BEAUTY AND I WILL DEFINEATELY BE BUYING THAT MAGAZINE. I LOVE TAYLOR ALISON SWIFT! GO TSWEEZY!

Hi Snookie Lanson, yes my first part was a reply to someones post that was deleted. Anyway…of all the websites and blogs I visit this by far has the most people with the least amount of musical knowledge. For people to say ridiculous things like Country Music is dead, or how awful Country Music is these days etc, and then have no idea what today’s Americana/Roots Country is an insult and disrespectful.

  • say it aint so says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 11:48 am

kayko, sales are about MARKETING, not talent, and awards are about MONEY, not talent.

  • kayko says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 12:04 pm

Say it ain’t so, if you believe what you just said than you have no reason to complain about who wins awards.

  • Snookie Lanson says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 2:34 pm

I agree with that observation, too, Redmaz. I visit other sites as well, and see many very intelligent discussions. But then, the writers of the blogs at those sites seem to do a better job on writing about the entire Country music scene. I notice only a couple of them cover the Roots side of the genre, here. Also, typically the ones writing the articles are more interested in the music, then caring about things like who is gracing the covers of a magazine. But hey, in the Pop world, that’s important, too. Ya just got to accept it for what it is.

  • Snookie Lanson says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 2:37 pm

Hey, I do believe that was a slam dunk for kayko on that one!

  • say it aint so says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 4:14 pm

awards ARE about money. To say she won because she “deserved” them is saying that she won because she has the most money. That is really sad. Martina, Reba, Miranda and Carrie were all robbed by mega marketing and industry payola. It’s so obvious now, more than ever.

  • gobrad says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 4:27 pm

    good god, shes ugly.

this webiste is the most pathetic thing ive ever seen.

  • Snookie Lanson says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 4:37 pm

Sorry, but it’s always been obvious. That’s how it works in the Pop world. On top until the next flavor comes along to reap all the glory.

Miranda needs to make up her mind if she’s going to be Pop or Rootsy. The way she’s doing it now, she’ll always be an also RAN. Hey, I made a funny! All those others had their time of glory, now it’s someone elses turn.

By the way…. didn’t Reba say she voted for Swift? She most be robbing herself! That IS sad!

  • say it aint so says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 5:11 pm

reba voted for tay for EOTY, not fvoty. She knows tay can’t sing.

  • Snookie Lanson says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 5:16 pm

And earlier you said she cannot entertain worth a poot. I guess Reba feels otherwise.

  • Annie says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 5:34 pm

Taylor is a talented entertainer and song writer, but she doesn’t sing very well. There were some REAL singers in the best vocalist catagory that deserved to win because they actually can carry a tune.

  • say it aint so says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 5:38 pm

reba also said she voted for her because she was FEMALE.

  • Snookie Lanson says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 6:05 pm

So you got a plan to do something about it other than complain?

  • D Trotter says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 6:31 pm

My favorite lies are the ones about the payola and everything being bought for Taylor. The ones about autotune run a close second. But that’s okay guys, the great thing about anonymous posts on a blog, nobody knows who you are, and you can say anything you want w/o needing a single provable fact.

Still, Taylor’s history is out, you can’t change it. Everyone knows she signed with a label before it had an office or other artists … everyone knows how hard she works, never stops … everyone knows how nobody controls her plans except her.

And everyone knows she faced off against 4 major labels for the EOTY … and WON!!! Wouldn’t surprise me if “sai it ain’t so” and a couple of the others WORKED for the PR depts. of those major labels, lol. Isn’t that how it works in PR … if you can’t beat em, lie about ‘em?

  • say it aint so says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 6:39 pm

LOL you guys are really funny if you can’t see that this was bought. Martina, Reba, Miranda and Carrie can all sing circles around her and EVERYONE knows it.

  • T J says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 7:32 pm

say it aint so - How many other EOTY awards were bought? If they are so cheap I guess anyone can buy one then.

Taylor gets best dressed too! whoot whoot!

  • flower says:

    Posted: November 14th, 2009 at 9:36 pm

votes were not bought that is the way the cma voters saw the year you can’t change it so go on people! way to go taylor you worked so hard this year and i got to see you a couple of times and again in march of 2010 can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • country fan says:

    Posted: November 15th, 2009 at 5:28 am

Taylor may be able to write welll, however most of her songs have the same theme or similar but vocally she is weak compared to others nominated. Money bought the extra publicity which lead to her awards. Some of the messages in her songs I find detriemntal to oung girls who might actually think guys come begging back, etc.

This was to much to soon. I change the station every time a song of her’s comes on when they could give other’s who can actually carry a tune a chance.

  • kayko says:

    Posted: November 15th, 2009 at 10:18 am

Conspiracy theory #9827.lol Seriously I think people have to much time on their hands. Taylor won, end of story.

  • The Truth says:

    Posted: November 15th, 2009 at 11:52 am

Here’s the honest truth. Most people do not know that a record company can buy billions of copies of an album that their artist records and put them in storage,so it looks like the public is buying them. This in turn gives the artist a chance to win say “Entertainer of the Year”. Then when that artist wins the award the record company fills the orders for the album from the storage lot. As we all watched on several occasions Taylor Swift CAN NOT sing, not in tune anyway, and she seems to not have any rythm with the beat of her own songs. So it is painfully obvious that there is more behind getting an award than honest talent and we all know what it is,”Looks and Money”. This was a slap in the face to all those real singers out there that are working hard spending their evenings playing in smokey bars trying and hoping to get a break. Shame on the CMA’s and shame on Taylor Swift.

  • Redmaz says:

    Posted: November 15th, 2009 at 12:26 pm

What’s more important to you? The cma’s and Swift manipulating the Pop industry(which by definition is what they’re supposed to do), or all the great Country Music being recorded outside of the mainstream?

  • Snookie Lanson says:

    Posted: November 15th, 2009 at 1:42 pm

I think complaining is what’s most important to them. They do it so well.

For me though, all the great Country music outside of the Mainstream, is where it’s at. Listening to teenage sensations like singer and multi-instrumentalists Sarah Jarosz and Sierra Hull hold more interest to me, than Miss Swift. Especially since they have chosen to go to schools like the New England Conservatory and Berklee College of Music, respectfully, to even better their musical knowledge and prowess.

  • D Trotter says:

    Posted: November 15th, 2009 at 4:30 pm

Taylor’s SNL skits were funny, but the writing on these blogs are WAY FUNNIER! Here’s my favorites:

Country Fan thinks the “messages in her songs are “detrimental to young girls who might think guys actually come crawling back”. (Apparently Drew did come around — 2 years too late — and even Abigail’s first flame came back, but I can’t help wondering what made you so bitter! Detrimental??!! You sound like Maureen Sullivan telling her daughter not to believe in fairy tales in “Miracle on 34th St.”

The ironically self-named “The Truth” tells us record companies buy up “BILLION of copies of albums and put them in storage”, just so it “looks like the public is buying them”!! Dear Lordie, I am gonna bust my gut laughing here!! Let’s see, spend , what, approximately 15 Billion dollars so someone can win EOTY?? That the plan?? Then, after buying up all those inflated middleman cost, now we sell them back in the hopes of re-couping our original investment. Hahahahahahaha! The Truth!!

  • True Country says:

    Posted: November 15th, 2009 at 6:40 pm

It is a true shame that this young, undesriving, more rock-n-roll than country can win entertainer of the year for country music. There is not an artist around that has moved so far from country than Taylor. If this is the direction that country music is going I may as well give it up now and just listen to my older CD’s.

  • Redmaz says:

    Posted: November 15th, 2009 at 6:57 pm

I guess you didn’t read Snookie Lanson and my posts did you “True Country”. Country Music is just as good if not better than ever and it has nothing to do with Taylor Swift or the CMA awards. There is certainly many more styles and genre choices than ever before and I can prove it. Just because you don’t know about all of today’s Country Music scene, does not mean it doesn’t exist. If you are interested in learning “True Country” let me know, I will help you.

Why worry about who’s the best? It’s suppose to be about the music, isn’t it? If you want to use Grammys as an example, we’ll talk when the one you’re referring to, has 26, like yet another Country female artist, who had nominations and won awards in no less than eight different award shows last year, some of which were on the international level.

It’s not all about Mainstream Pop Country.
