Sugarland Settles on Healthy Living, New Music

Sugarland captured their third consecutive CMA Award for duo of the year on Wednesday night (Nov. 11), capping a very successful 2009. Although there have been numerous highlights -- multi-platinum certifications, a network TV special, a new Christmas album -- Jennifer Nettles was forced to cancel several tour dates this year due to nagging health concerns. She fielded a question about it during a visit to the press room backstage at the CMA Awards.

"This year I started out on a limp leg because I was randomly sick several times before we went on the road. That started me out, when we were on the road, still dealing with that," she said.

"I was behind when we started, and the year doesn't get any easier. It only gets harder. You become more cumulatively tired. Consequently, I learned about limits. I learned about my own healthy boundaries -- yes, my therapist is proud. And how to say no, and that's just as important as being able to say yes. Until you can say a clear and easy ‘no', ‘yes' doesn't mean as much. ... It is a hard lesson to learn, and quite humbling when you have the desire and the love and the want and you're body says, 'Nuh-uh, not today.' You have to learn how to pace yourself in order to make it for the long run."

The duo says they'll start recording a new album in 2010. "The really great news is that so far our fans, the industry and y'all have come to expect us to change from the last record that we did, so you never really get that (sense of), 'Oh I didn't express this so I need to go over here and do it on the side," Kristian Bush said. "It always feels like wherever you are is what you're going make next. We thank you all for letting us do it, and our fans, and we'll see what happens next."

I like Sugarland enough, BUT they are NOT a duet!!! By definition a duet is two people that sing every song!!!

By definition a duet is a composition to be sung by two people. Are you trying to say something about them being a DUO True Country Lover? If so, get your definitions and facts straight. The definition of duo is two performers appearing together. That definition does not specify which roles or instruments they play, only that they perform together on stage at the same time. Sugarland is a duo.

Jennifer, please take care of yourself. You are right, you have to take care of your health first. I know the voice thing was a concern. So happy to hear another album is on it’s way! Happy THanksgiving to you and the band!
