So ... What Do You Think About the CMA Winners?
It was mostly the usual suspects who got nominated for the awards that were presented Wednesday (Nov. 11) in Nashville, but the winners in some of the categories make you wonder what's going on among the voters who are card-carrying members of the Country Music Association. (I should mention that I am a CMA member, but I'm not sure I could locate my card if I had to.) Lady Antebellum had a great year, but what does it mean when they win over the longtime favorite, Rascal Flatts? And while there was much discussion about whether Taylor Swift would win the entertainer of the year award, I really thought CMA voters would make her wait at least another year before presenting her with the organization's highest honor. And when people accuse country music of sounding like pop music, the song of the year prize somehow goes to Jamey Johnson's "In Color." At the risk of stirring things up, what are your thoughts about the winners at the CMA Awards show?

irvine says:
IT WAS THE BEST CMA AWARDS SHOW I’VE SEEN.HOPEFULLY NEXT YEARS SHOW IS EVEN BETTER.
Devon Drake says:
Its a growing trend I’ve seen. The traditional country that we grew up on has evolved into a more pop friendly format. However, forget the fact that the listening base is not. Forget the concept of originality. Forget all that just for a second.
Taylor Swift is a decent singer, cute girl, and definitely will have her place. However, having said that presumably well and right on, Carrie Underwood has a far superior voice and song writing behind her. Now that’s just an opinion. However, I would probably gag if I heard Taylor even attempt a cover of “I told you so”. However, I do think Taylor will have many more songs about hard luck stories and things she can identify with. Ya know growing up in Penn is hard when Dad and Mom were educated and had all the best for her, a car at 16 paid for, a nice suburban house and of course all the things that country music represents.
Wait a minute? What about country does she represent? Thats the real question. Popularity or Real country… I mean if we want to compare her to the Pop Acts, really? Do you think she could compete with the Likes of Britney Spears. Probably not… In the words of Jason Aldean… “She’s Country”
truthteller says:
I enjoyed most of the performances, especially Keith Urban–he’s just so smooth and classy (he definitely makes country “cool” in my book).
Sorry, but I’m disappointed that Swift won EOTY, at least she could have cried enough to shed a few tears. I saw some “fake” crying — no tears.
me says:
ENOUGH OF TAYLOR SWIFT.
Alpha Terminus says:
If you doubt Taylor can sing, do a Youtube search of her tribute to George Strait, covering his song “Run.”
brneyes says:
we watched, enjoyed most of the performances! not all, but to each their own I guess! I cannot understand how ts has taken over country music! at first I thought ” a cute teeny bopper, my tween daughters will like, I can deal” but now even my daughters are saying enuf! can’t we have our great singers who sing as adults for adults get the recognition they have earned! miranda was gipd tonight n so was kenny and others! we need to take country music back!
Ginger says:
UGH, There were so many MORE TALENTED AND DESERVING artists there tonite. Taylor swift would not have made it past round 3 of american idol or nashville star. So who is charge of all these nominations???? What is purpose of re-releasing a cd, POOR sales???? take the hint. CARRIE, MIRANDA, GEORGE,KENNY,BRAD, KEITH…..YOU ALL WERE ROBBED TONIGHT. YOU ALL ARE MORE TALENTED AND MORE DESERVING OF WINNING AWARDS. Next year instead of calling it the CMA awards, just call it the Taylor Swift variety show. BTW , where was Alan Jackson and Blake Shelton(besides being in audience supporting girlfriend Miranda…who was robbed of her award). Taylor …you are a minor talent, go back home and practice SO you can come back and compete with THE REAL , TALENTED STARS OF COUNTRY MUSIC. NEXT YEAR CMA, bring on TOBY , Jason , Alan and leave Taylor at home. ENTIRE SHOW WAS ENJOYABLE ….UNTIL YOU HAD TO LISTEN TO TAYLOR TWICE AND WHAT WAS UP WITH THAT OPENER…STRIPPER POLES ARENT VERY GIRL-NEXT-DOOR.
sarge329 says:
OK, OK, OK. Taylor Swift has talent. What happened to paying your dues? What happened to playing at county fairs, juke joints ( yeah yeah she’s not 21; she can play before 8 PM ) , and generally working your fanny off for years before your real big break? If it comes too fast, you don’t deserve it and you won’t appreciate it. As to who voted in awards shows, that’s easy. The CMA is an industry group in Nashville, according to their own site. In other words, it’s strictly business. If you bring in more money, you get more votes. The ACM is in L.A. , and it’s more of an artists group. The fans, the ones whose opinions really count, have no say. The Bellamy Brothers left Nashville to go back to Florida, and they got blackballed. Mr. Haggard went to California, as did Mr. Owens. Look what happened to them. Toby Keith went off on his own, and he doesn’t get squat from the CMA or the ACM. It’s a popularity contest, no more no less.
tophat says:
How is it possible that the CMA voters give everything to a girl that can’t sing one note? I can hear it now at the Superbowl “Ladies and Gentlemen, now singing our National Anthem, CMA’s Female Vocalist of the YEAR, Taylor Swift”. Every member that voted for her should have to stand beside her and share responsibility for that disaster…
hotelmotel says:
I don’t care about “paying your dues.” If you can succeed without paying you dues, then why bother paying them? Taylor is obviously doing well for herself and making a lot of money; she’d be crazy to be entertaining drunks at juke joints when there are so many people willing to see her on TV. Her fans obviously don’t care about dues paying. Personally I don’t like Taylor Swift’s music that much but I couldnt care less whether she has or hasn’t paid some dues.
Anne says:
I am still in shock that Taylor took home Top Female VOCALIST. I can easily understand her winning best album, single or even Entertainer of the Year, because Fearless sold like hotcakes, she exploded on the radio and she’s been non-stop touring all year. But seriously now… Top VOCALIST? I’m a fan of Taylor who enjoys her catchy music, but she cannot even compare vocally to Carrie Underwood or any of the other nominees. I seriously do not understand what the voters were thinking when they gave her that one. Just compare the performances during the show. Carrie was vocally flawless with ‘Cowboy Casanova’. It seriously sounded spot on with her recorded version. Taylor’s performance was fun, but I cringed at her vocals. She may get better as time goes on, but for now, she definitely does not have the chops to be earn Top Female Vocalist.
mactownokie says:
Yeah you sure did start a riot with this question…but I guess its inevitable. I am a Taylor fan..went to one Fearless show, and another in March. She is very entertaining. I’ll give her that. Her numbers prove it. She had an extremely successful album. I’ll give her that. Once again her numbers prove it. But good Lord, she is NOT female vocalist of the year material. ESPECIALLY not in the same category as carrie, miranda, reba, and martina. She’s a sweet girl, but she does not have the pipes to back that up. She has nothing to prove that award. At all. It’s a mystery. But hey, good for her. If I was 19 and that successful and have fulfilled my dreams and beyond, props to her. A mystery how it happened–I guess she’s the luckiest girl alive.
jrwcda says:
Taylor Swift, “opening act for other headliners” won Entertain of The Year! It was a joke! Did the CMA’s do this because of The MTV Awards? I mean her name was all we heard on TV for their promos in their commercials during the show tonight. It became ridiculous after a while. I mean this is a joke right? Taylor Swift is a cute teenage, but she’s no great singer, and her vocal range is incredibly weak. I’ve seen George Strait and Kenny, and Keith, and Carrie…these people are amazing entertainers! Congratulations to Taylor Swifts management team, and video director & designers, and the sound person for making her sound better on a CD than singing live. You all did your jobs well. But for those of us who enjoy “country music from performers who can actually sing & perform, this was a sad, sad night. Shame on you CMA’s!!!
beadsnstuff says:
I am a great fan of country music and have the privilidge of running a kitchen at a country bar and saloon so i get to listen to load country music all the time. What i am having a hard time understanding is Taylor Swift is a cute kid but has no where near the caliber of voice of any of the other peoiple in the catagories that she was nominated in and won. Secondly why did she win, if you look at the fan picks, she wasnt even close in the votes in any of the catagories she was in so one can only assume her daddys money is still buying her a career.
So if the fans choices dont matter, how does the winners get picked?
Darrell says:
I am sorry but she did not deserve to win those awards. The only reason she did is because all those little fans know how to work the system and they just keep voting over and over again. If CMA would fix where that couldn’t happen she wouldn’t keep winning. They make up 1000’s of email address’s and vote. That is why I didn’t watch because I knew she would win. She is a descent singer but not that good. If they would actually listen to her voice when she is singing they would hear it. So much for country music. Send to her pop where she belongs.
Geraldine says:
Enough of Swift…..did you hear her sing silent night…OMG..she can’t hold a note…I sound better then her and I can’t sing….
Jodie says:
OMG she did not deserve that award. People listen to her vocals she can’t sing. Opening act? Come on. There is much more deserving talent then her to open the CMA awards. Well this is my last year of watching. I agree with Darrell. CMA or CMT needs to do something about the voting. The people deserve to vote but it needs to be done in a way that it is ONE vote only per day. It shouldnt’ involve making up email address’s. There has got to be a better way. You would see a big change in who wins. She wouldn’t have all the awards she has. Send her to pop where she belongs. She is about as much country as my little toe.
theupsman1957 says:
I do think that Taylor is a good talent, but female vocalist and entertainer of the year no way,she can only sing one kind of song, taylor doesn’t have a strong voice at all. There are so many female artist out there with much better voices. Taylor is in no way in the same league with Carrie Underwood as a singer, lets face the facts Taylor’s fan following is the tween crowd not saying that there is anything wrong with that. Get real CMA stop the band wagon voting just to better market country music, i feel this is what happen in the case of Taylor Swift to get more young people in country music.
Helen says:
Taylor Swift certainly did not deserve those awards. She may be able to write songs but she can’t sing them. She won over the most talented women what a joke. I also don’t feel she deserved entertainer o the year. I don’t know who does the voting but they must be tone death.
Jean C says:
I am a huge country music fan and have seen every act that was up for entertainer of the year. TS should not even be in the category. She is a terrific songwriter and the younger generation idolize her. However Keith Urban’s talent and performance blows her away. I do not know who these people are that choose the winners, but something should be drastically changed. I went to bed furious about this category.
Robin says:
Jean - why should “something be changed”. It is what it is and people shouldn’t put so much stock in it. Should Taylor have wong EOY or Female Vocalist? Not in my opinion. Not even close with Female vocalist. But, next week I was planning on starting the “Robin” awards so I can give the awards to who I think they belong to.
Just buy and listen to the music you love folks.
say it aint so says:
She’s reached the top. It will now be interesting to watch her decline now, because as they say “The bigger they are, the harder they fall”
Michelle R. says:
Honestly, what more does Keith Urban have to do to win an award? He released an amazing new album that debuted at #1 on the Billboard Charts. His Escape Together Tour was huge, and it was amazing. He puts on a great show. And what about his All of the Hall benifit? Does he not deserve recognition for that? The Awards were extremely disappointing this year. All I can say is, Keith Urban, I dont care who the awards went home with, you are MY Entertainer of the Year.
Lisa says:
ZAC BROWN BAND ROCKED IT. Should have won an award. I was there it it was AMAZING. Let Taylor have her glory..stop rippin in to her. She is a very talented young woman and DID deserve entertainer of the year because she really has done THE MOST this year. Every time you turn on the radio, tv, computer..she is always on! All the guys up for the award are great too..but this year, she deserved it!
Sharilyn says:
I don’t believe Taylor Swift was a good choice for entertainer of the year. She doesn’t have her own concerts she just opens for others so why would she win this award?
goodbyecountry says:
Taylor Swift??? NOT COUNTRY. CMA has sold their soul to the devil. What an insult to the true performers of Country Music. No wonder the real country music singers do not show up at the CMA’s. I can’t believe George Strait can sit there without bolting from his seat. Taylor belongs in Rock/Pop not country. Once again…cute wins over talent.
Yohan says:
with all due respect, taylor swift is just good at writing her pop songs which ALL have NO range. any teenager can sing her songs…I CAN SING HER SONGS BETTER LIVE!! you get me? she has songs without a range and still can’t do justice by singing it LIVE! CARRIE UNDERWOOD has gone through simon cowell’s adoration and battled against millions who tried out american idol. she can hit every note right! i think, CMA wanted TS to win so that it will be talked about gaining popularity but they messed up! i HAD high respect for this show but they took it away…credibility no more! TS is at the top now..but as she goes higher, it’s way steeper..SHE BETTER WATCH OUT FOR A DREADFUL FALL! people will get tired of her coz her singin isn’t a real talent…she should stick to writing.
morgan says:
When I saw T.S. singing Disney like songs around a crowd of young ppl in a sing along Barney type atmosphere..I turned the channel. I cannot believe they would grant this no talent ETOY.
Jenn says:
Not only was I shocked about Taylor winning Entertainer of the Year but Female Vocalist??? That is laughable. If Taylor Swift would have auditioned on American Idol, I guarantee she would have never made it. I’m sure the judges would have laughed aloud.
oldfashioned says:
Taylor Swift may be good to many but her style and music does not stand for what the CMA has presented in the past as “country music”. She deserves awards of somekind but not “CMA” awards. George Strait, Conway Twitty, Meryle Haggard, - those are the kind of artists, and songs that represented country music and those who followed are country, not Taylor Swift. I was very disappointed in the country music industry for giving these prestigous awards to someone who does not have the “Twang” of country. I can’t give up on country music but if the CMA awards continue to go to these types of musicians, there will be no sense in the old fashioned country music lovers watching a show like that on TV. The real country artist like George Strait, Brad Paisley, Tim MaGraw, Keith Urban, and Kenny Chesney, should refuse to return to the CMA awards. No wonder Toby Keith in not a CMA member. He knows country and knows that the CMA is all about the money, not the music. Givem Hell, Toby!
MEGAN says:
Was I watching “THE COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS”??? George Strait, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and Vince Gill were FABULOUS. They are the REAL COUNTRY WINNERS!
Kathy says:
Taylor Swift entertainer of the year??? Yes she is a good singer but she is 19 and everyone of her songs is about teenage heartache drama. I saw a concert with her opening for Keith Urban and yes she was good but Keith Urban totally brought the house down. He is so much more talented and such an excellent entertainer. He has sold out his entire tour as I am sure the other nominees have as well. She is in a whole different teeny bopper class. I do enjoy some of her songs but come on! Give some respect to the talent that has been in this business for much longer and has so much more depth to their music.
Darla says:
I turned the awards off when she started working the stripper pole during the opening act. I’m done with country.
djdoug says:
The Highlight for me:
Jamey Johnson winning song of the year.Real country
Tim McGgraw’s performance was good and that was a good song
Carrie and Brad did a good and they both are talented and a creedit to country music.
Vince Gill is the most talented country artist ever He plays sings and writes . What else is there
Disappointment: Anybody but Darius Rucker should have won new artist. Jamey Johnson already has recorded classics that will be played on radio forever
debbi says:
i went to bed before they even announced the categories of female vocalist and etoy because the show was soooo predictable! taylor is good, but not even close to the more deserving winners (hello? keith urban anyone?) again, keith was robbed, he deserved etoy. i saw his show in raleigh,nc this summer and had the time of my life! keith definitely has my vote!
Tracy says:
WTH!!!!! Rascal Flatts was ROBBED!!!!!! They should have won VGOTY hands down! They so deserve it! How could Lady A just come in there and win it? They are not even head lining their own tour yet! Hello the guys played to 37,000 people @ Wrigley Field in July! They have also had a #1 album, songs. I just don’t get it!!!!
And yes I am too SO tired of hearing about Taylor Swift!!! Enough all ready. She really did not deserve ETOY! I have seen her in concert did not really care for her. Just my opinion here.
I will not be watching these Ridiculous CMA and ACM award shows anymore.
Paula says:
I’m glad I’m not alone. I’ve enjoyed country music for a long time, and while I like alot of the new country stars (Lady A comes to mind first), I don’t understand how Taylor has ruled country music recently. She’s OK, but enough of this “teen angst” we’ve been hearing from her. I understand there’s an appeal to teens, but what about the rest of us? I think she’s the “in” thing right now, much like Gretchen Wilson a few years back. Someone new will come along soon and take over. Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year - no way. How can you be ETOY when you haven’t even headlined your own show. She may have won the awards, but the real country fans are showing they don’t believe it.
Walt says:
I’m sad to say for the 2nd time in my life I have witnessed…”The Day The Music Died.” Country Music will forever have a blackeye for the way it has embraced their manufactured tone deaf superstar.
How dare the voting members of the CMA’s insult talented gifted vocalist with such a choice? That is the real question.
Pam says:
I was THRILLED that Lady A won Vocal Group Of The Year. Thrilled that Jamey Johnson’s In Color won.
As for the rest of the awards………not so much.
Lyndsi says:
I think everyone has to take a deep breath. I do not think that Taylor should have won EOTY but I am not going to call her names and say that I am done with country music. Do I think she has done enough to win EOTY not really. Someone said it in an earlier post that she opened for all of the other nominees for EOTY, she even said it in her acceptance speech but she also had her own tour this year as well. If you look at the actual description for EOTY on paper, Taylor has succeded in doing all of them. If you don’t like her change the channel while she is on, turn the radio to another station and do not buy her music. The CMA members voted her EOTY so your upset with record execs, songwriters, producers, and other artists in the industry. Do not get mad at Taylor. The awards were great this year, every performance I enjoyed for the most part and I think that a wide variety of Country Music was shown in primetime television so we might have gotten some new fans as well. Congratulations to all the winners.
Gracie Ann says:
REALLY!!! Taylor Swift entertainer of the year. Good Grief. I can’t believe it. If you really listen she can’t sing. Her songs are all the same and are geared to teenagers. To have beat the other nominees is just shameful on the CMA’s part. George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood and even thought I’m not a big fan Reba. They all have more talent in their little finger than Taylor Swift. Maybe CMA was just trying to create history rather than choosing the real talent. I am so disappointed!!
D Saunders says:
I agree with most of the posts. There are far more talented singers than Taylor Swift. She is way too bubblegum teen heartbreak for me. I usually turn the channel when she comes on and I dont buy her music. If I had a young daughter, maybe. She has her place but it’s not at the top. I went to Keith Urban’s concert as well as Brad Paisley. They both poured out their heart and soul in some of the best performances I have ever seen at a concert. I also saw Toby Keith in concert and Darius Rucker. Talent, talent, talent!!
What about Carrie Underwood and the Queen Reba? CMA is going down the tubes.
funny says:
The first time I saw her she was squealing to Tim McGraw in the audience! Now entertainer of the year? Go figure.
Amy says:
Wow…what a bunch of pathetic haters in here when even legends like Reba voted for Taylor to win ETOY. Reba’s opinion >>>> a bunch of bitter losers on the internet. Taylor Swift IS country music at the moment. People who couldn’t care less about country music listen now know what it is because of her. How many artists have that kind of an impact on? She is a phenomenon…drawing people to a genre of music they usually stay away from. She sold out all 52 shows of her first tour in minutes, she sold more albums last year than any musician in any genre, she appeared on everything from Oprah to Ellen to SNL to CSI. Deal with it: Taylor is the real deal.
Mark says:
Where is Kayne West when you need him the most. nough said!!!
dave says:
Taylor is great, but her performance last night was unbearable. I was embarrassed for her. I think the pressure or the setting at the awards was against her. Carrie Underwood, continues to hold her head high and out do the rest of them (females). Keith Urban should have won EOTY, but Taylor sold the most CD’s.
Yohan says:
taylor? the real deal? oh, i’d love to hear her sing “jesus, take the wheel” with carrie underwood! THAT WOULD BE GREAT!!!=))
flowerchild says:
I kinda thought I wasn’t giving her a chance- but obviously there are a lot of people who are shocked at the awards Taylor is winning!! Nashville needs to wake up and give awards to talented singers- Most of the people that go to her concerts after hearing her processed on radio are probably shocked at her inability to carry a tune- Sorry but when I go to concerts, I actually like to enjoy the preformer and jumping around the stage and throwing chairs in a tantrum is not my idea of entertaining!!! She needs some kind of guidance if a staged interview and throwing a chair for kicks is her ideas. Voters should really look at the true talents and rethink their decisions next time!! I am all for new artists but there are much better singers that could have been chosen and I really don’t have a favorite but I do feel that honor should be bestoyed upon someone that is a well rounded entertainer that can sing since that is the main thing!!!
kathy sipes says:
WTF?? I thought I was watching the country music awards, not the teen choice awards. When will the pandering to pretty quit? There are so many extremely talented artists that were absolutely stomped on last nite and I am outraged. She’s not even a headliner, she’s a freaking opening act who can’t sing. She needs to be ran out of real country music on a rail.
Long live Reba, Barbara & Martina!
Discussed says:
Taylor Swift CANNOT carry a tune in a bucket…. maybe in a studio where they can fix her awful voice. AND whats up this all the drama. This is not country music.. move out Taylor!
Sami says:
Am I missing something here???? I thought one of the criteria for famale vacalist was to be a good VOCALIST. Obviously you don’t have to be a vocalsit at all to win. TS definately CAN NOT sing. It was a slap in the face for the other ladies who are very good vocalists. It is all over the internet that TS can not sing and should not have won this award nor ETOTY. I agree!!!!!!! I actually cringed at her vocals last night. Positive side though is my 2 cousins changed their minds about her last night and agreed that she can’t sing and no longer will buy her albums or go to her concerts—nor request on the radio. Guess it accomplished something good.
Arlene says:
I watched the CMA Awards show last night in discuss. Too, too, much of Taylor Swift. To me she has yet to earn her place at the top. One can not understand the words to her songs, and as far as I am concerned she does not have a voice of quailty. The only real country music stars there last night were George Strait, Reba, and the wonderful Barbara Mandall. The rest are all gone to pop music and have left the good country behind. I guess I will have to get out all of my Alan, and George Jones records. By the way where was Alan or George.
Robin says:
Amy - People who have Taylor on their i-pod are not listening to other country artists or country radio. They are listening to top 40 radio and buying CD’s of other “radio Disney” artists like the Jonas Brothers. She’s done nothing for Nashville except use it.
Melissa Roberts says:
Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood cannot compare IMO to the classy ladies Martina McBride and Reba McEntire. Most any high-schooler could write songs with lyrics like Taylor’s, and Carrie needs to learn to sit with her legs together!!! Obviously, most of the fans voting must have been teenagers.
Music man says:
Where was Kanye last night when we needed him?
oliver says:
Last nights award show was a kick in nuts to all the greats, CMA must stand for “COUNTRY MY ASS”.
flower says:
robin you are a sore loser! taylor deserved all of those awards, but to be honest I thought it would be reba or taylor for fv, but the cma’s thought taylor should win and she did!!!! EOTY WAY TO GO MISS TAYLOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
flowerchild says:
response to Amys’ comment- she may be the real deal as you indicate but the girl cannot sing- and the industry shows should recognize that. She will be fine- but facts still remain facts!!! I have a 9 month old nephew that with the right studio processing could sound like a country singer and sound great- but I am not going to say that singing live he could do the same and his vocabulary consists of only 5 words right now!!! Taylor is really not a worthy choice for EOTY and for that matter some of the other awards she has won!! People are entitled to buy her albums, go to concerts, what ever they like ofcourse, but to give her a top honor like that is just really unbelievable!! Carrie Underwood can mumble in her sleep and sound great!!! She is selling out concerts- hosts of shows- Setting record sells - HOW IN THE WORLD IN THIS NOMINATION PROCESS DID SHE GET OVERLOOKED? There is so much more that could be said but I hope lessons are learned from all the negative opinions and that it is improved on in the future!!!
Connie says:
I am so sick of Taylor Swift. I agree with others that she cannot hold a note, she sounds like a baby and has allot of growing up to do.
She did NOT deserve to win Entertainer of the Year - this award should go to someone who actually Entertains the crowds at their concerts, I don’t care who would have won but not her - she didn’t deserve to win it.
I understand her winning the Album of the year with her Sales the way they were all year.
When you watch her sing on any Award show I don’t know if it’s the sound or if it’s just her that she cannot sing but it does not sound good.
She may have some talent but not good enough to pick up the biggest award of the night.
I agree with someone above who said she didn’t even have real tears when she won - what a faker.
It’s time for her to take a break and grow up a little.
nikabela says:
The minute I heard, that Faith Hill and Tim Mcgraw will present EOTY, I knew it will be Taylor’s. But I think she deserves it. Go Taylor!
I don’t think she is the best vocal though. But people saying she doesn’t deserve ANYTHING, should shut up. Give credit when credit’s due.
Bug says:
Taylor won EOTY because the teeny boppers have given her that award. They go to her concerts, buy her C.D.’s and vote, vote, and vote for her. I’ve never cared for her singing, but the AMA’s did their job. She was at the top of the list for everything, because of the teeny boppers. I wish she’d go to the Pop world and take the teeny boppers with her. I hope these kids hurry and grow up, because when they do, we won’t hear about Taylor anymore. She’ll be history. No adult will listen to her, because SHE CAN’T SING!!
oliver says:
nikabela, you must be about 10 years old ?
GMA says:
It’s so disappointing that the awards committee has lost sight of what is right. Everyone needs to pay their dues, and at the age of 19, you haven’t even come close. I am saddened to think that the “entertainer of the year award,” means very little anymore. The greats have all had to wait their turn, and some of the greats last night deserved it far more than Taylor. So you want to cater to the teen crowd? I was never a country fan until Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and Brad Paisley. Don’t push them aside as they have made country what it is today. They deserve the utmost respect from the industry, and that was thrown out the window last night. Taylor will have her time to shine in about 10 years, if she lasts that long. So please, bring back “hard work pays off in the long run.” You have to earn it!
oliver says:
i agree with GMA..
BROSZ says:
I got a kick out of Brad & Carrie for the opening of the show, I enjoyed Martina & George singing to Barbara Mandrell. I was happy to see Sugarland win duo of the year, though Brooks & Dunn could of easily taken it also. I thought it was great of Jennifer to invite B & D up to speak to the audience. As Brad said we all get along and we’re family. What a great show. I just didn’t think TS deserved EOTY.
realcountry says:
I should start by saying that at heart, I am a traditionalist. And I read these message boards more often than I comment on them. I, too, was shocked by the results last night. But to anyone who says that Taylor Swift does not deserve what she got, please calm down. If you look at what she has done to get where she is at, and in particular the past year she has had, she deserved every award she won. Compare her to any and all of the artists she was nominated with in all the categories she won in. She may not have come up in the bars and clubs around Nashville and may be considered too young for any of this, but there is not one formula that makes everyone famous. She had the best selling album in ANY genre. She has the hottest concert ticket in ANY genre. She has the most digital downloads of ANY country artist. Now, I also believed like most of you that the FVOTY was based on vocal talent, but when it comes down to numbers against all the other wonderful female artists in the category, she wins. And honestly, if she didnt win at least 3 of the 4 categories she was nominated in, the CMA would have been considered stuck-up Traditional punks who dont care about whats going on with country radio today. Im glad they picked Taylor. It shows that(and I know some of you might hate me for saying this) country music is evolving. And as much as I grit my teeth because my favorites got trumped by a woman the same age as myself, Im proud to call myself a country music fan today.
Weary says:
I keep reading, over and over that Taylor IS talented. How can 5 mil albums sold be wrong? That question is quite simple to answer. Taylor’s fanbase is too young to know real talent when they see it. The age bracket that makes up Taylor’s groupies are the ones that buy most of the music in this country. So it’s not at all surprising that her numbers are high. The mistake people make is assuming it MUST mean she has talent. It just means the kiddies’ listening is impaired.
I have no problem with “a changing of the guard” if you will…”out with the old” and all that. What I find disgusting is the person the industry has chosen to move in. All this has proven to me is that these award shows are basically meaningless. Nothing new there. The only people who believe them important are the fans whose favorite artist won.
Enjoy the adulation while you can Taylor. But for real longevity in this business you need to earn respect. Fifteen years from now I doubt anyone will be talking about Taylor (Shania who? Gretchen who?) Writer’s in this industry are a dime a dozen. Taylor may write her own music but in the general scheme of things, her songs are trite and appeal only to the perpetually immature.
Oh, and Taylor? A few voice lessons wouldn’t help. I’m not an expert but even my untrained ear can recognize someone who is tone deaf.
TJ says:
I have read the comment and I feel the same way Taylor Swift cannot sing. She is not a country singer. I am very dissappoint cmt awards has come to this. Her to win Entertainer of the Year was a joke. George Strait should have won he is a GREAT country singer. Nashville you need to wake-up you look over the great star there last night.
Marie says:
TO EVERYONE WHO IS PUTTING DOWN TALOR SWIFT SAYING SHE CANNOT SING OR NEEDS TO GO BACK HOME OMG ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? LOOK LOOK LOOK EVERYONE HAS THERE OWN OPIONION BUT COME ON PUTTING HER DOWN EVERYONE OF THE COUNTRY STARTS WERE HAPPY FOR HER REBA THE QUEEN OF COUNTRY WAS VERY PROUD OF HER… I THINK THE HATERS NEED TO RELIZE THIS GIRL IS A GREAT ROLE MODEL FOR OUR KIDS AND US SHE SINGS THE TRUTH IT COMES FROM HER HEART AND SHE HAS A PASSION,.. SHE DID NOT WIN FOR PITY THATS FOR SURE SO EVEN IF U DO NOT AGREE THERE IS NO REASON TO SAY SOME OF THE AWFUL THINGS PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT HER.. SHE IS BEAUTFUIL INSIDE AND OUT AND FOR THE ONES THAT SAY SHE CANT SING WELL TELL THAT TO HER MILLIONS OF FANS THAT STAND BEHIND HER AND THE COUNTRY MUSIC WORLD..
realcountry says:
Weary, I agree with you. People come and go in this industry. It all depends on which way the wind blows that particular day. Although most of the people who buy Taylor’s CDs have no musical training whatsoever, she is the hot item right now.
Oh, and one other thing I forgot to mention. She took down 4 MAJOR record labels for EOTY last night. Im sure the people working for RCA, Arista, Capitol, and BNA are wondering what the heck happened last night to have lost to a 19-year-old who is on a record label that has barely been around for 5 years. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to all who thought her success couldnt be possible in an industry where the good ol’ boys system is extremely prevalent.
Tonja says:
Taylor Swift is a joke she can’t sing a tune in a bucket.
This is country music CMT. You gave her Entertainer of the year over George Strait who is a great country singer. You need to wake-up CMT!!!!!!
flowerchild says:
GO BACK TO THE PAST EOTY WINNERS THAT ARE POSTED BACK TO THE BEGINNING AND EVERYONE OF THEM WERE RECORD BREAKING INDIVUALS OR GROUPS, SOLD OUT CONCERTS, EXTREME RADIO PLAY RECOGNITION—ALL OF THAT— BUT THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IN ALL OF THEM AND THIS YEARS CHOICE, IS THAT THEY COULD SING AND WAS NOT PROCESSED TO DEATH FOR RADIO PLAY TO GAIN RECOGNITION FOR THE TOP HONOR. THEY HAD GREAT VOCALS TO WIN THE TOP HONOR AND NOT ANYTHING ELSE!!! OH WELL THERE IS ALWAYS NEXT YEAR TO SEE WHO HAS THE BEST DRESS OR TUX ON THAT WILL WIN FOR EOTY -PROBABLY GOING TO BE THE CRITERIA FOR NEXT YEAR!! LOL!! LOL!!
Bruce says:
No disrespect to Swift or the other EotY nominees, but how Brad Paisley does not win that award last night is an embarrasment to country music, especially the CMA’s. Let’s set aside the tween craze that is happening with Swift right now and REALLY look at country music. No one, with the exception of maybe Carrie is putting out better music, better concerts or is a better ambassador to country music then BP.
I sat and watched last night thinking, what the heck happened to country music? I don’t mind the pop influence per se but these awards mean nothing now and while I’m not going to throw out the “never watching again” comment, you can bet it has dropped far down the priority list.
Cory says:
DISGUSTING AND APPALLING! These are the words that come to mind when I think about Taylor once again beating out Martina and Reba for Female vocalist and don’t even get me started on Entertainer of the year. My 5 year old daughter could go on stage and sing better!!! I can only amagine the thoughts running through George’s head along with Brad, Keith, Martina and Reba and to add insult to injury the GREAT Barbara Mandrell was there to witness this train wreck!! I would love to have a conversation with her one day to see what she has to day about the Academy making a mockery out of country music. The Academy needs to give their heads a shake! Also, how many more times do we have to watch her ”crying” and ”Oh my gosh I won again” performance! Taylor should think about a career in acting as well! Give me a break! It is sooo pathetic!!!
jan says:
Why isn’t Hank Williams 111 featured anywhere- radio or television. He sounds like the “Original” Hank Williams- and looks like him to me. His sound is amazing and it isn’t forced, unlike some other.
He understands the roots of Country Music and its meaning.
Incredible, but I only find Hank Williams 111, the grandson of Hank Williams-the Original, on YouTube. Maybe he doesn’t have a popular song out, but his vocal quality and music ability should be showcased. And somebody write that boy a hit. He doesn’t need the money but America needs his talent.
Marie says:
OH AND GEORGE STRAIGHT IS A LEGEND AN AWESOME SINGER THE MAN OF COUNTRY AND HE WAS VERY HAPPY FOR TALYOR!!!!!! IT IS NOT WHO HAS ENTERTAINED OVER THE YEARS IT IS ENTERTAINER OF THIS YEAR PEOPLE AND SHE ROCKED THIS YEAR OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
realcountry says:
Its all a simple matter of marketing. Yes, Ms. Taylor was marketed to death to Country radio from day one. The fact that she has taken her act and crossed it over really is remarkable. The specific demographic she target had never really been pushed in Country music before. The 13-17 demographic had always been overlooked for more adult demographics. So, she came, saw, and conquered. The response was HUGE from pre-teens and teens. She has made Country appealing to teenagers again. Even artists with 20+ years are thanking her for that.
sean says:
Well CMA F—s read 99.9% of every single comment on the web and you will clearly see society is not as stupid as you think…they know that Taylor Swift vocal talent SUCKS next to McBride and others..what a JOKE Country Music is ofically a SELL OUT!! Thank you Kayne West for at least having t he BALLS to step up and call bullshit on this chick…If Swift wasn’t under Toby Keith his big mouth would be crying foul!!! Bring back the Dixi Chicks…at least they were COUNTRY!!!! R.I.P. Country music this was the worst travesty in any music industry….lets here Taylor swift sing Crazy or any Martina song……then get ready to plug your ears..I guess industry voters are tone deaf…of swift must give some good back door licks!!!!!!!
Robin says:
flower - I’m a sore looser when I say “why gripe about it, it is what it is” just buy who you like? Maybe you’re just a fanatical fan who thinks everyone should stop and praise Taylor which isn’t going to happen.
flowerchild says:
MARIE- ONE LAST COMMENT- HOW IS SHE A ROLE MODEL FOR MY CHILDREN? SHE PLAINLY SAYS ALL THE TIME THAT ALL OF HER SONGS ARE ABOUT EXPERIENCES IN HER PAST AND SHE IS ONLY 19 AND HAS THAT MANY BAD EXPERIENCES - SOUNDS LIKE TO ME MAMA AND DADDY HAVEN’T BEEN AWARE OF ALL THAT THE LITTLE ONE HAS BEEN UP TOO!!- COME ON!! SOMEONE THAT HAS HAD THAT MUCH MISFORTUNE IN HER LIFE IS CERTAINLY NOT GOING TO A ROLE MODEL! AND IF MY CHILDREN THINK SHE IS A ROLE MODEL THAN I HAVE REALLY MISSED THE BOAT AND HAVE NOT DONE JUSTICE TO MY CHILDREN!! GET REAL!!!
Marie C says:
Taylor seems like a sweet gal with song writing talent but her winning Female Vocalist and EOTY is a complete joke. She is the result of a “package”. Just like other teens in other genres. Give her a wardrobe and make a doll in her/his image and the kids go nuts for them. To have her beat out the competition in each category in a slap in the face of those that can truly sing. When she sings (or attempts to) I cringe. Did you hear her when she performed with Def Leppard at the last awards show?? My ears were bleeding. UGH!
Aex says:
What does Martina McBride have to do to win one of these awards? I thought Female Vocalist meant you have to be able to sing. Taylor Swift came off as one of those disney poptarts last night.
nikabela says:
oliver: what’s your problem? I’m 32 actually. But YOU do act like a 10 year old. I sad give credit when credit’s due. What’s wrong with that?
jan says:
It is refreshing to see a performer like Taylor Swift.
Dirty dancing-strip tease type entertaining is not the The Country Music way which is more Sophistication and Elegance- Note the elegant hair-dos and gowns from the past also, cute, funny, witty is a style, look at historic June Carter. Religious also, because a country woman leads a hard fulfilling like caring for her family which could be enormous and working with the tools at hand, lending moral strength to the hard working, faulted human beings and situations around her-lending love care guidance support to everything around her-feeding and nourishing family, extended family, strangers- so character is a strong point and Women in traditional country music reflected that. Taylor Swift has brought to the forefront that nowadays a Woman singer of any Genre can be those things. Some country singers prance around in garter belts, well that does not reflect the country woman, unless she is the owner of the establishment.
sean says:
SERIOUSLY….some people need to be shot after last night….who in the industry is going to step up and say something…come on George….Tim…Brad…get some balls!!!!!! You don’t need to rush the stage and make her CRY..but stand up for the industry that feeds your family…this is insane!!!! a five year old can tell Taylor Swift cant sing next to McBride, Pickler, Underwood, Faith Hill……I could go on forever!!!!!!!!This will have a huge backlash….Taylor Swift is going to get Billy Ray’d we can only take so much high school break up crap…….R.I.P. Country music !!!!!!Johnny Cash where are you when we need you!!!!!!!!!
BobbyP says:
Entertainer of the Year? TS is a talented girl, however her singing voice is still that of a child. She cannot sing live and it’s getting sort of obvious that this has become a popularity contest. (meaning the kids are deciding these awards) It truly does not reflect the talented pool of artists anymore. What a shame country music has gone Hollywood and Pop. Most of the music on the radio is now exactly what Pop was in the 1970’s. True country is no longer recognized as a genre anymore. In the words of a couple true country stars “Murder was committed on Music Row” Sorry for us!
Shelly says:
Loved, Loved, Loved Kid Rock and Jamey Johnson duo - now THAT is Country Music - NOT Taylor Swift - she needs to join the genre of Miley Cyrus - this industry is declining as George Jones has been saying all along!!!
Steven says:
Carrie and Rascal Flatts got ROBBED. The CMA voters have lost their minds. How Taylor won Female Vocalist is beyond me. Entertainer, Album and Video are fine, but Underwood has the best pipes in country today. I wanted Brad Paisley to win Entertainer, because Kenny, Keith and George have already won it. However, I was happy for Taylor when she won, because as I saw on the 60 Minutes Interview Special, she put together one whale of a show for her Fearless Tour.
And for her to bring her band onstage while she accepted it was awesome too. There’s only one other act who would do that, and his name is Garth Brooks.
CJ says:
Taylor Swift makes me want to vomit and laugh, all at the same time. Why is that?!? It must be because she is a no-talent, wannabe, who obviously has an uncle or someone she knows inside the country music industry that pulled some strings for her. For her to be nominated into CMA categories with the likes of George Strait, Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, and Reba McIntire is unthinkable…and for her to win, must certainly be a gimmick. Not only is she not old enough to have paid her dues into this phenomenal society, she is not talented enough to even be an opening act for any of these stars. At lease when Tanya Tucker and LeAnn Rimes came onto the scene at their tender, young ages, they were more than talented enough to carry their own weight. Sorry, Taylor, but you just don’t cut the mustard!!!
flowerchild says:
AEX–FOR MARTINA TO WIN- EVIDENTALLY SHE NEEDS TO REWIND 20 YEARS~ LOSE HER VOICE AND START THROWING CHAIRS ON STAGE AFTER INTERVIEWS!!!!! HOW RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!
grams says:
I thought Brad and Carrie (my favorites!) did a great job last night! My teen granddaughters are big Taylor fans! I am so glad to have a Taylor Swift as a role model for them. She is always respectful to others (including her family) and for that I say CONGRATULATIONS! to Taylor for her wins. I hope she continues to display the same values she has currently shown. But watch out Taylor, Carrie’s coming! LOL

AEX–FOR MARTINA TO WIN- EVIDENTALLY SHE NEEDS TO REWIND 20 YEARS~ LOSE HER VOICE AND START THROWING CHAIRS ON STAGE AFTER INTERVIEWS!!!!! HOW RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!
Jen says:
What does Keith have to do maybe sing country music. His album is nothing but lovesick pop muisc. The critics tore his album up when it came out with bad reviews. Its very weak with pop songs like Kiss a Girl.
Its not even close to a million sold and heck even Jason Aldean’s album has sold more and they came out within a week of each other. And Jason’s is selling more each week, Keith hasn’t been in the Top Ten bestselling country albums for months.
Keith has won the Entertainer award once even though Keith has NEVER had the #1 Country tour, in fact his sellouts this year were 99% the ones with Taylor as the opening act, he didn’t sellout the ones when Taylor was not part of the show.
So you wnat him to win Entertainer maybe he needs to sell them tickets and step up and have the top country tour of the year for once and sell them records, its funny and Carrie and Taylor have already reached him album sales, with all his albums he has only sold 11 million in his career, maybe he needs to step up with the big boys like Tim, Kenny and Toby and sell some records.
Aex says:
Taylor is probably a nice kid(though she reminds me of Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction), but she’s simply not a good singer. She’s tone deaf. There’s just nothing there. I was permanently soured when she sang Tonight in the VMA promo, and that was with pro tooling.
And I hope no one is going to villainize Underwood for the wrap up.
Michelle says:
Loved Brad and Carrie hosting. Loved their spoofs of current events. The show was great but have to wonder if it is fixed…Taylor Swift Entertainer of the Year??? Please! The two songs she sang were awful. I like her music but I guess when she doesn’t have the studio to help her voice for the album, her true voice doesn’t sound near as good. She seems like a great girl but EOTY?!?! Awards are handed out too easily, they have one good year and they are a “legend”.
Taylor Brogan says:
My favorite would have to be when Taylor Swift invited her whole band up on stage when she won the Enertainer of the Year award. I thought Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley did GREAT!!!!!!
Always Right says:
CJ,
Daddy Swift is a silent partner with her daughter’s record label, Big Machine. Swift was already rich before her deal because Daddy Rich footed the bill.
This is fact, people.
Craig says:
No way Taylor should have won entertainer of the year award with the talent that was in that category !
Maryann says:
We need somebody to say “Tay.. you can’t sing”. Invite Kayne. I have never seen/heard bad singing is applauded as “vulnerable singing”. There’s no need to sing in tune these days?
sean says:
CAN ANYONE POST THE NAMES OF THE MEMBERS WHO CAST THESE VOTES??? AMERICA DESERVES TO KNOW WOH KILLED COUNTRY MUSIC…TAYLOR IS LAUGHING AT ALL OF US RIGHT NOW…ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK $$$$$$$$ AT LEAST GEORGE JONES HAD THE BALL TO SAY TAYLOR SWIFT IS NOT COUNTRY…..HANK..PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OG GOD GET ALL YOUR ROWDY FRIENDS TOGETHER AND TAKE BACK COUNTRY MUSIC….GIVE THOSE INDUSTRY PUSSIES A GOOD MONTANA ASS KICKIN!!!!!!!!!! R.I.P. COUNTRY MUSIC !!!
TLC says:
Taylor fans are not listening to country radio and she’s not what country radio listeners want to hear. Her radio airplay is from pop or ipod/digital. Who would have thought she would have this much cross over success?
Well, like they said, she just “connected” with fans (young crowd).
What about us (seniors)?
kathy says:
Funny the true EOTY was over in Europe entertaining our troops, not opening shows for real country singers.
Julie says:
Shame on the voters for Entertainer of the Year. Shame on you.
Tom says:
I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that Taylor won FVOTY, Reba, Carrie, Martina & Miranda are actually miles and miles ahead of her vocally, and it is a sheer disgrace. It really is. Album of the year should NOT have gone to her either, what the hell has happened to the CMA voters?
Bug says:
TAYLOR SWIFT CAN’T SING!! DO YOU PEOPLE THINK TAYLOR REALLY THINKS SHE CAN SING OR DOES SHE KNOW IT’S ALL ABOUT THE TEENY BOPPERS LOVING HER PUPPY LOVE SONGS. GO TEENY BOPPERS. YOUR DAYS OF TAYLOR SWIFT ARE NUMBERED!!
C Rogers says:
The awards were great. All of the presenters were excellent and made it very enjoyable. Personally, however, I don’t think any 19 year old who only sings songs from a teenager’s perspective should win Entertainer of the Year…She is very pretty and sweet but her songs and voice all sound the same and her presentation (the tossing of the hair, etc.) is more that of a rock star than country. Martina, Reba, or someone of that caliber who is a proven true professional would be a better recipient!! All in all, though, it was enjoyable to watch. The Judds were basically overlooked and not given enough credit for their years of wonderful music.
Linda says:
What Brad has to do to win??
Stop singing way back when sophomore songs, sell more CDs (hope he’ll hit Gold with this one; his album is even below Urban, not even in top 20), ** dissociate from White House (is this a real turn off??), change up his guitar solos which are sounding very similar in each and every song, get a top grossing tour, sell out shows, stop counting attendance from fest and festivals to make a million mark, he has sold only about 11+ million which the other 2 girls had in 2-4 years.
I am just being a little sarcastic. Just same points made by Jen above.
He has peaked in 07, 08 but they had to go with Kenny. I don’t see him going any higher or bigger than those years. Now the standard is TS or CU, and he won’t be able to match them. Unless the pendulum swings the other way and more traditional music and appreciation of talents, his numbers won’t measure up (quality>quantity). But he’s the golden boy of country radio (which has no say no more in these awards). If you listen to radio, he’s the one people have been tipping for past three years.
Well, he might win in future, but better it not be a consolation prize. Keith was explosive in 2005, his tour/ album sales were way less than Kenny/Timmy/Toby but he had huge success with radio airplay: 3 number #1 songs of 4-6 weeks stay and his shows are famous for live-entertainment (no gimmicks). He doesn’t earn much $$$ but won. Brad deserves to get one and if he doesn’t, that would be a real shame.
Sugarland and Lady A will be future entertainer nnominees and winners.
Afive007 says:
Taylor Swift won, because Kayne West insulted her on the award show. That’s it, they gave the ETOY award to appease her fans who spend money, and she’s really a POP singer, just like Miley Cyrus, except she wears cowboy boot. Just follow the money..
sean says:
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’M DONE THROWING UP NOW….OK SERIOUSLY WHO REALLY WON FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR????? THIS WAS A REALLY GOOD JOKE BUT IT’S NOT FUNNY ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!! TAYLOR SWIFT IS TO “COUNTRY” MUSIC WHAT THE SWINE FLU IS TO SOCIETY…..SCARY..PLEASE TAYLOR TAKE ALL YOUR $$MILLIONS$$ AND GO AWAY!!!!! WE WANT COUNTRY MUSIC BACK…AND TO ALL YOU SELL OUT DJ’S ACROSS AMERICA WHO SHOVE THIS CHICK DOWN OUR EARS…MAY YOU GET A REAL JOB!!!
Cookie says:
I thought maybe I was dreaming last night but, after reading all these posts, I feel much better. When Taylor Swift sang the song with all the screaming teenagers I turned off the sound. This poor girl CANNOT carry a tune and it I was actually embarrassed for her. I love the mute button.
Life matters says:
It isn’t that Taylor can’t sing but her vocals do not compare to many of the others. The same can be said of the male group as well. They sing nice but lack real vocals. CMA must have other criteria included in these nominations other than vocals. Maybe changing the name to Top Female Artist would be less confusing. If it were about vocals we’d see names that can actually sing like Josh Turner, Luke Bryan or Blake Shelton or Martina and Faith with Carrie. If it pretty clear that the voters haven’t seen the nominees live or they would know who can sing.
Chrissy says:
And now for a NON-Taylor Swift comment…
Sugarland for Duo of the Year??!!! Way to honor Brooks & Dunn CMA’s!! :( Helluva performance with Billy Gibbons though! Loved it!
Susan says:
I’m so glad to hear that so many people feel the same way about Taylor Swift. Her performance last nite was awful, but even on a good day, her vocals cannot compare to Carrie or Miranda. Last night’s performances showed that. As for ETOY, I was shocked to hear she won. I hope whoever did the voting is reading these and would love to hear their reasoning. I don’t even want to watch these shows anymore because the truly deserving never win. It’s all about popularity and money.
Holly says:
Devon,
Your comment rocked. Well said.
Linda says:
Just count the fors against the for nots and the for nots win hands down regarding Taylor’s awards. Maybe there should be a pop/country blend award show. Unfortunately, the line is just not that distinct anymore…..sad!
dawgsfan says:
Is everyone in the music industry tone deaf?? Did you really listen to Taylor? Think about it she sounds nothing like her CD live. I’m not a huge Carrie fan but at least you know what you going to get when you hear her live. Miranda & Lady A were all great last night! I’m confused as to why/how an opening act could win EOTY? You are letting the “teens” rule TRUE Country Music. She was never a “fans choice” so tell me how she walked away with everything?? She needs to give a big “thank you” to whoever doctored her voice in the studio.
James Garren says:
Taylor deserved every award that she recieved..I am so blessed to have not taken voice or music lessons, because all the haters of Taylor must undoubtedly be experts in the art of music. While I can sit back and enjoy everybodys music, they (the haters) can only try to pick apart every note, voice range and quality. How sad for them, how great for me.. Love you Taylor.
fearless street steam says:
i loved the cma’s last night Taylor Swift ruled the night shes the best i was so hppy for her i was crying she made history we her fans love are girl taylor
OuidaW says:
I did leave a comment but guess it got deleted!!!! TS was awful, guess that’s why it got deleted!!
Chris J says:
I lost a lot of respect for the CMA. Having Swift win ETOY, NO WAY. I have yet to hear her sing well in a live setting. She does OK in the studio but she is so flat on stage. TS is not even in the same class as Carrie, Martina, Kenny or George. If you want bubblegum then TS is it. TS is not Country. CMA should be embarrassed.
Joan says:
First things first. Sugarland can”t caryy a tune in a bucket. They need to go back to whatever they did before some idiot told them I could be country performers. Brooks and Dunn should have won vocal duo. Taylor Swift, is not a country singer. She can’t sing. I give her credit for trying. How in the world could Taylor Swift win EOTE when you have entertainers like George Strait in the same category. Shame on you.
Kim says:
I’ll give Taylor EOTY, because she was everywhere this year. Although, I would’ve preferred Keith or Brad who are true entertainers. But vocalist???? That first number was rough. I have never seen an awards show that she wasn’t out of tune. Even in concert, it’s pretty rough on the ears. I have seen all five women nominated and she really can’t hold a candle to any of them. It’s a shame that the CMAs turned into a popularity contest. And- why did she get to perform twice? How about some other talented performers such as Dierks Bentley or Luke Bryan. Dierks Bentley was the second most played artist this year, second only to Keith Urban and yet he always gets overlooked. This guy works hard and is awesome to his fans. I guess he just doesn’t have the big time marketing from his record label.
ylewis says:
Omg!!!! Keith Urban was absolutely amazing!! his voice is beautiful!!! I am so sorry the CMA doesnt appreciate great voices that can sing!!! Keith Urban should of won aleast 2 of the awards!!! and TS winning eoty, what are they thinking?? she cant sing!!!! yea she deserves album of the year, but thats it!!! she has penty of time to improve on her voice to try and win the big awards!!! what a screw up… the CMA people are looking at money making not talent!!!! Keith Urban you are my EOTY!!!! and a great singer!!!!
Very Disappointed says:
It was a total disgrace to CMA and country music for
female vocalist of the year to Taylor. There is no more
talent required to have good vocal. How can she be
awarded the female vocalist of the year when she
cannot sing with good vocal at any live performances.
It was none of her fault but CMA has brought shame.
Megan says:
To say Taylor Swift hasn’t paid her dues to country music seems really ridiculous to me. She has an enormously popular brand of country-pop that she writes herself and has sold more CDs this year than anyone at that award show, but she doesn’t just sit on that. She seeks out all of these country legends as mentors/friends. She opened for every other act in the ETOY category because she wanted to, not because she didn’t have her own sold-out tour. She’s not sitting somewhere trying to turn country music into pop, she goes out and learns from the best musicians country music has to offer. That she’s managed to do that so quickly only speaks to how hard working she must be. She clearly has a deep respect for country music and she’s become the industry darling because of that. My favorite part of that moment she won was Kenny Chesney doing a little fist pump because he was so happy she had won instead of him and then going to give her a hug. Keith Urban was beaming. She goes onstage and falls into Faith Hill/Tim McGraw’s arms. Brad Paisley gives her a hug and can’t stop talking about how happy he is for her. That was the truly remarkable part of it all. People on these boards can bitch about whether she deserved this or that, but the people that she’s so unfairly beating or whatever are all pulling for her to succeed. The legends of country music adore this girl and feel she deserves this honor, so if that’s not paying your dues to country music I don’t know what is.
tina43 says:
Paying your dues? Sorry, but this is not the artist of the decade award, it is entertainer of the YEAR. And this year was all about Taylor, like it or not.
I agree that she was the worst to pick for female vocalist. I wish Reba would’ve won:( Taylor is not able to sing songs like Carrie does, but her voice fits her songs. She doesn’t try too hard.
And please, for the love of God… don’t call all Taylor-fans teeny boppers, because she has a lot of adult fans.
flowerchild says:
Does anyone know who the mystery guest that had been gone for 4 years that they have been talking about being there last night was? Who ever it was probably heard what was going to happen and didn’t want to be a part of the embarrasment!!!
Mary says:
When a “biggest” concert tour/best entertainer equates to a production=theatre=musical=props=showman, then …no comment. Some people just want to see a visual production rather than artist’s performance, then there you go.
And that radio DJ said Taylor is “representing” country with her radio, concert and world tour, I don’t think that’s true. She’s pop more than country. However, it’s very similar to Shania phenomenon, but CMA and ACMs purnished her/gave the boot. Not so for their own Tay Tay who is a home-made product. Shania just dropped in from a foreign country. They resisted her so much.
If somebody like Miranda Lambert has that kind of success, then I’d say she represented country and spread country. But that’s not what’s happening.
Debra says:
Why did Taylor get two songs last night???!! Did you see the look on Mirandas face when TS won Female Vocalist!!! What is going on with CMA and country music good lord someone needs a hearing test!! It was the Taylor Swift show!!! Carrie,Keith,George and Miranda were robbed!!!!!!
Oregonian says:
I totally am not a Taylor Swift fan. Besides not sounding country in my book, she sings FLAT when in a low octave–sends chills like chalk on a blackboard… Love George Strait, Keith Urban, Allen Jackson, Martina, Lady Antebella, etc. Most of the female artists these days just scream the lyrics rather than sing them–they all sound alike. Just another opinion.
JHodges says:
I have a nine year old daugher in my house so of course we have taylor swift cd, it is good and she deserves a lot of credit, but no female vocalist award.
But, what happened to billy currington, he wss thrown out on stage left almost like an after thought (maybe I am missing something, don’t know everything)
Great voice, fought back from personal issues, and back with chart topping singles? (and kept touring through a concert tragedy)
Question is “Do you really want dat part of him gone?”
Kim says:
All the artists were happy for Taylor because that’s the politically correct thing to do. It’s not good business to act like sour grapes because they didn’t win. I am sure they were happy for her, but you can’t tell me Kenny wasn’t disappointed after taking that home 4 years in a row.
R says:
Readers may think I am sore loser for stating that the ETOY and FVOTY awards for Swift was a slap in the face of the real and talented coutnry artist nominated. You throw enough money into marketing a “teen sensation” who technically CAN NOT stay on pitch without digital technology in the recording studio and they can win an award. I did not say deserving or honestly talented enough to receive the awards. I can even understand the trend to a “pop” format to generate fans and revenue, but please not at the expense of the creditability of country music. Sincerely hope that he CMA wakes up!
saj says:
CMA = Country Music Awards. Taylor Swift is not country, she is pop and i’m sorry to see the CMA’s lending to this. So now she’ll go on AMA’s and do her pop. KEEP THEM SEPARATE, us country folks like it that way
alison says:
Catchy album big sales? yes,but isnt that what Billboard awards are for? entertainer? Ummmm so many others in this catagory who have been working hard for many years!
FAMALE VOCALIST? OMG WHAT? Sorry but this is so WRONG!
Congratulations Taylor.
OldGoat34 says:
I know that Carrie and Brad were funny at the Opening but I didn’t expect such a joke of a awards show.To me the CMA’s voters lost any credibility they had in what a Country Music Artist is.They Especially when it came to the Female Vocalist Category.Taylor can’t sing for chicken poo.her Guitar playing is zip as is her Piano skills as we’ve seen. This was the biggest insult to our great Female Country Vocalists ever.I can’t believe they did this to Reba,Martina,Carrie ,Faith and all the previous Female Vocalist winners who really know how to vocalize this is a disgrace for this award show.
Patty says:
I am a country music fan and have been for many years and
I was very disappointed in the show last night. I agree
with Mr. George Jones that Taylor needs to be in another
category. What has happened to country music,,,,Money,,,
I believe this is the only reason she was awarded those
awards. She is not country and can not carry a tune, when
she comes on radio or tv I do switch channels…I liked the show except for her…..PLEASE LET’S BRING COUNTRY
MUSIC BACK WITHOUT TAYLOR SWIFT…..put her where she
belongs….POP MUSIC…What is going on with CMA ????
OldGoat34 says:
I forgot to mention Miranda,Gretchen,Allyson,Barbara and every previous winner and nominee there and many more. They had to feel insulted having Taylor put in the same category with them even in her nomination. What will future Country women think that all youi have to apease is the teeny boppers and tin ears and you can win it all like in Pop music.
Donna says:
I wouldnt know what to think about the winner’s because we didnt have the cmt music awards here in Crystal River Fla. At 8:00pm last night we had to watch, Are you smarter than a 5th grader. Why I dont know,we turned on CMT to watch the awards show and we did see the last part of the red carpet interview’s, they said the awards was about to begin, but it didnt. All we got was Jeff Foxworthy and the 5th grader’s. I think that stink’s.
countryfan says:
I feel so better see how many people feel the same way as me. I’m a huge country music fan and was looking forward to the CMA awards for months. What happened???? The show in most respects was good (performance wise) Carrie Underwoods performance was awsome, she sounded amazing and it was so nice to see her come out of her shell some. The Zac Brown Bands performance was amazing, the best of the night in my oppnion.
Now for the awards…what were the CMA’s thinking. I have always liked Taylor Swift, shes entertaining on stage, and she seems really sweet and down to earth person, but lets be real. Yes I agree she deserved the album and video of the year. But ETOY, please…I think maybe several years down the road, sure, but after not even a hole year of headline a tour, I don’t think so. I was expecting Kenny to win, but was rooting for Brad, I mean really what does he need to do to win that.
But for me the biggest shocker and disaportment was FVOY, I mean come on. The key to that award is “vocalist” and miranda, reba, and martina can sing circles around Taylor. Carrie Underwood was definietly robbed last night, and the worst part was Taylor didn’t even seem “shocked” or appreciative to win the award she didn’t even deserve. What happened to coutry music, last night was the Taylor Swift show, more about ratings than country music. I hope the CMA’s see the mistake they’ve made. Lets give Carrie and the other REAL country artest what they deserve next year.
And I just need to say, I hope nobody bashes Carrie for the closing of the show. It was a complete understanding. She posted on her fan club today that she couldn’t believe the headlines, and is happy for EVERY single winner. She appoligized if anyting sounded wrong, but promises she didn’t mean anything by it.
Ray says:
I’ve read most of the posting listed above. We all agree to some point or another. TS Can’t sing. My only belief is that the CMA was trying to make themselves look good by promoting TS for what happened to her on the VMA when Kanya West stole her show… Should of happened again!
LondonTown says:
Just be happy she won it’s over know if you don’t like someone winning keep it to yourself
LondonTown says:
If anyone else deserved those awards they would have won them ok.
redneck woman says:
Ok - I read all these comments. I totally agree that Taylor shouldn’t have won the female vocalist or the entertainer of the year awards. However, we as fans were voting online 4 these awards and I don’t understand how sooo many people voted 4 Taylor Swift. I also agree that she needs 2 go 2 pop music cuz she AINT country. Yes, carrie did out sing and out perform taylor, and so did all the other performers. I believe the show was rigged and that fan votes didn’t count @ all. What was the purpose of us “fans” voting online - if they already had it planned that taylor was going 2 win??
Chase says:
Wow I hope the CMA is reading this. Country music fans are not happy.
That opening number was as bad as I have ever heard a country music artist sound in a live performance - on any television broadcast - ever. It was embarrassing.
Sue says:
I love traditional country music with the wonderful love stories and life. I not adverse to change, but I am wondering why Taylor Swift is a country music star. Please explain. How about a pop country star! A very talented young woman, but is this country?
Sue says:
I have an additional comment. Why did everyone sing so poorly. Was it the sound system? Stress, alcohol?
Claudia says:
I am stunned by the number of responses to this blog and by the consensus among those responding who do not favor the results from last night. I am among them. I am so disappointed today. I did not necessarily expect my favorite to win, but I don’t believe the most deserving artist came out on top. Taylor may be a great entertainer, but she is not a great vocalist. I feel she deserved the album win all the way, but she cannot hold a candle to any of the four nominated female vocalists. EOY…..I was expecting it, but was disappointed none the less. All of the men are soooo good at what they do. I am not a hater and I don’t believe I have read any posts that fall into this category. I am genuinely disappointed in the outcome.
Claudia says:
Money talks…..
Country girl says:
Taylor seems to be a nice girl…but not “Entertainer of the Year” come on country music. Let’s let the ones win who
deserve the award. Her performances last night (speeches included) were not good. She has a long way to go before she is any of the fan’ Entertainer of the Year. This isn’t a pitty party, your votes are suppose to be for the best!
Redmaz says:
…right now all I can say is,,,HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
I’ll elaborate more later;););):)
Robin says:
redneck woman - fans only voted in polls. The members of the CMA voted for the actual award winners. That’s the entire tradedy. I would expect this if it was fan voted since there are a million 13 year olds willing to vote until their fingers bleed.
Debbie Jackson says:
I’m not trying to diminish any of Taylor’s success but I’m very disappointed with the awards given last night. There were legends nominated that have earned their place and to pass over such fantastic entertainers like George Strait, Reba McEntire, and Martina McBride because Taylor has been in the spotlight so much is almost unbelievable. You have several from the show last night that know what true entertaining is and I’m sorry but Taylor is no way close to their status. Country music execs need to remember who their audience is and most of us prefer true country music over pop sensations.
Tom Minota says:
I hear that Wynonna Judd thinks that Taylor Swift has not earned the award and that she is too young to won it (among other things.) How awful of Wynonna. In her young life she has probably done more musically than Wynonna Judd and didn’t have to ride into stardom on the coat-tales of her mother.
mactownokie says:
I think just skimming through these posts, about 98% of us agree that Taylor didn’t deserve nor is talented enough for her winnings.
That says enough alone.
If the majority of everyone on a Country Music website disagrees with the outcome to this degree, something is definately wrong.
ntn22 says:
okay so for last night on the CMA, i enjoyed all the perforances except for taylor swift. i’m sorry but that girl can not sing. i loved the hosting by brad and carrie. they were really funny and it looked like their peers were enjoying themselves too. i was very disappointed with the results for EOTY and FVOTH. first, of all even though taylor did have a good year i do not think she deserves the EOTY award. she was in a category with the greats of george, kenny, keith, and brad. how the heck did this 19 year old who can not sing win over the powerhouse of the other nominees? second, FVOTH of come on!!!! she has no VOCALS. my vote would have been for carrie but if she didn’t win i thought maybe martina or miranda was going to take it but when they annouce taylor’s name i was so shock and disappointed. i have never been angry after an award show until last night. i couldn’t even go to bed. whoever is choosing the winners need to wake up because it was a big slap in the face for the other nominees in the EOTY & FVOTH. i am not going to say that i won’t watch again but i hope someone is reading this and see how much people are upset about this. taylor should be in the pop world like her friend miley cyrus. she is not country. how come for the AMA she is nominated for best country female and than for best pop female? the reason is that she is really pop not country at all. also that is why she was nominated for a mtv award because she is pop not country. just because she plays a guitar and wear cowboy boots doesn’t mean she sings country. her followers are mostly consist of little girls and the tween crowds that is why her album is so popular. anything with little girls will make you big $ just look at miley. when she sang her 2nd song last night it look like i was watching the teen choice award. by the way why the heck did she get to sing 2 song when eveyone else sang 1. they could have filled that slot with another great singer who can actually sing.
FED-UP says:
Sick of taylor, and cmt awards show,
all of the greats are gone forever,
i wont watch anymore and will not spend another dime,
on country music, cause country is gone and over,
countryiscool says:
uh Tom, Naomi and Wy were a DUO so there was NO riding coat tails. Plus, Wy did very well as a solo artist. She was the one with the big voice while her mom sang harmony. I agree BIG TIME with her assessment of Taylor. She did NOT deserve the EOTY or FV, although I would have gone along with perhaps song, or video. Carrie, Martina, Jennifer, Miranda, and even her friend Kellie sing circles around li’l T. The yshould have just called it the TS award nite. I turned the channel and was more entertained with CSI-NY.
NC KC FAN says:
Taylor didn’t even deserve it, yes she is a good singer & songwriter, But Kenny works a lot harder then She does,
So Yes I am Upset Kenny did not win EOTY when his deserve it ,
With Or Without the award in His hand Kenny Chesney Is The REAL Entertainer Of The Year.
Kenny You ROCK last night just like you always do.
Love Always Your Biggest Fan
NC KC FAN says:
And Another Thing What was She doing Swinging On That POLE And they call Her A role model, HA What A Joke
EXcountry fan says:
I watched the award show last night, probably will be the last one I ever watch. Last night reminded me of the song that George and Alan had a few years ago, “Murder on Music Row”. Murder was committed last night at the CMA’s. What is it going to take to get country back. I think Taylor needs to give the Entertainer of the Year and Female Vocalist award back, she doesn’t deserve it. She can’t sing, someone needs to tell her to quit making a fool out of country music. TAYLOR ARE YOU READING ALL THESE……NOT everyone likes you……
Tx blue says:
We enjoyed the CMA awards so much with the exception of Taylor Swift. She is a pretty young girl but she can’t sing and so uncoordinated! The young teens love her which is fine but to give her Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year???? Our society is so warped!
RJ Fee says:
Since I’m not American and have never listened to country music you may feel Imy opinion doesn’t count but because I did searches about Taylor Swift today I found this site and more importantly watch my first ever CMA awards. I had never heard of Carrie Underwood before today but now I know she’s intelligent and has an AWESOME voice. I might even listen to more of her. Plus I now have a greater respect for country music as a whole. None of this would have happened if Taylor Swift hadn’t won those awards. I’m saddened to see people writing such negative things about a musician who seems like such a sweet person but from my perspective, country music should glad she is opening up your artistry to so many others like myself. :)
Janet O”Halloran says:
This is the third blog site I’ve been on. My message is simple whatever happenned to the most talented was the one to win. Taylor Swift go Pop and stay there Country Music and it’s millions of loyal fans don’t need you.
It is a sin that the very talented Martina Mcbride, Carrie Underwood and of course Reba were robbed at a shot to win.
Linda says:
I am still shocked that Taylor Swift won FVOTY & EOTY. She doesn’t sound like the country music I grew up with. It was an insult to the other nominees. Her songs all have the same sound to them and they sound alot better on CD than they do at a live performance. My 88 yr old mother couldn’t believe what she was listening to. Then when she had her band join her on stage she looked at me and said “What part of country are they or did I miss something”.
me says:
TS taking female vocalist has got to be the worst joke ever.
I just can’t understand what the voters in the CMA were thinking. It beats all!
garylevoxfan4life says:
COUNTRY MUSIC IS NOT COUNTRY MUSIC ANYMORE ITS JUST A BUNCH OF GARBAGE AND OPENING ACT WAS STUPID AND SLIDING DOWN A FIREMAN’S POLE IS UNCALLED FOR TAYLOR SWIFT CANT SING SHE WAS ACTING LIKE A CRAZY PERSON WHEN SHE WAS SINGING ITS NOT COUNTRY MUSIC I TURNED OFF WHEN TAYLOR WAS THROWING FURNITURE AND SLIDING DOWN THE POLE AND RASCAL FLATTS WAS ROBBED OF VOCAL GROUP OF THE YEAR LADY ANTEBELLEM CANT SING THEY DIDNT SELL OUT A MLB STADUIM LIKE RASCAL FLATTS DID AT WRIGLEY FIELD IT WAS THE STUPIDEST 3 HOURS I EVER SAW AND NO ONE WILL BE WATCHING IT ANYMORE I AM ONE THAT WILL NOT BE WATCHING ANYMORE AND RASCAL FLATTS ARE UNSTOPPABLE TOO and from what i saw on all the websites today no one will watch it next year
SUE says:
I AGREE WITH YOU CARRIE.
Lilly says:
T.S = female vocalist? Is the award sponsored by audiotune??
Brooke says:
Very disgusted and shocked that Lady A won for group when they have only had 2 winneey songs released that didn’t even hit top 5. What a joke!! I can now see why Toby doesn’t attend these popularity shows! Robbery!! Rascal Flatts is so much more deserving of the award!! Lady A will never compare to Rascal Flatts! Peoples Choice by far will be and is truly “The Boys….Rascal Flatts!!”
me too says:
Aren’t you glad you asked ?
I hope CMT is listening and taking notes too.
crabby memaw says:
It’s like “The Emperor has no clothes!” Taylor Swift can NOT sing but people keep lauding her praises!? Just like Obama, he can’t lead and is praised…what is this country turning into?!!!
erika says:
i love taylor swift she is so cool.
kelly says:
me too and what “me too” said was kinda dumb dont you think
erika says:
um yeah majorly dumb
Polly Donoho says:
The CMA’s program wasn’t Country Music. Today’s CM compaired to the original songs and performers lack a lot when it comes to “entertainment”. It is all about sales and who gets played and sold the most. A lot of fans got played on Wednesday night. Whatever happened to “paying your dues”?
Redmaz says:
There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what “Pop” music is. Pop Music is not an individual genre of music, however “POP COUNTRY” is. cma awards are a Pop Country awards show. 90% of people on this blog alone have no idea about basic music fundamentals and genre description. You people can sit and complain all you want about Pop Country, but it’s not going to change the fact that Country Music is better than ever, and it has nothing to do with the cma’s. Just because YOU don’t know about today’s Country Music scene does not mean it doesn’t exist. Educate yourselves. It’s a beautiful thing.
barb b says:
after reading all these comments
they all feel the same way about
taylor the female vocalist should
have never went to taylor to much
SYMPATHY !!!!!!!!
brneyes says:
pop cntry? cntry? pop? regardless of wht u wanna call it!!!!! shouldn’t the winner of female vocalist be able to carry a toon? n watchn a young girl on the floor tryn tobe sexy, and innocent at the same time is just sick! my 13yr old threw her ts cd away after watching the awards, she said ”its all fake, she’s not like me at all” honestly I cried watchn my child realize one of her ”role models” wasn’t wht she thought she was… but at least im not hearing ts coming out of her bdrm… the makers of advil might be disapointed lol
Redmaz says:
No brneyes….not “regardless of wht u wanna call it!!!!!” That is unacceptable. This is “Pop Country” and being a music advocate, I will make sure it’s called “Pop Country”
bpfanatic says:
Jamey Johnson totally deserved that CMA Award! He actually has kept the traditional conventions this genre of COUNTRY MUSIC was built on. I was overjoyed that he was recognized with an award, especially in this day and age, when the likes of Taylor Swift wins Entertainer, when her silly, dramatic opening performance was an embarassment to music in general, and a total slap in the face to country music. She’s way too big for her britches.
solongsowrong says:
bpfanatic: Since Taylor Swift is only recognized in the Pop Country format, how is she a slap in the face to Country music? I listen to many genres of Country, including others that recognize the music of Jamey Johnson, and never see her mentioned. How is she an embarrassment to the Americana/Roots Country genres, for example?
She’s just one small grain of sand, in the total vast Country music scene. She might be tall, but maybe you need to expand your idea of what Country music is, if you think she’s too big for her britches. Does she really hold any significance to those who still build on the traditions involving all the Country genres?
Now if you want to limit your argument to Pop Country or the CMA’s, that’s a whole different subject. They do pretty good embarrassing themselves. Swift is just one of their tools for doing so.
sick and tired says:
Personally, I have lost all respect for the CMA’s. This is a joke. This award is supposed to be prestigous…not like fan based award, it’s not supposed to be about popularity. It’s supposed to be about talent, content, and longevity.
How can those who made this decision sleep at night. In case they are all so old that can no longer hear…TAYLOR SWIFT CAN’T SING!!!!! Female vocalist of the year????? Pleeaasse!!!! Can you big shots say with a straight face that Taylor Swift is a better female vocalist than Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride and Faith Hill…I think not. It’s obscene.
And ETOY! This award is the big daddy of them all…longevity and staying power come to mind….what doesnt come to mind is Taylor Swift. I agree with the poster who said, Carrie, Miranda, Martina, Keith, Kenny, George and Brad were ROBBED! Truly it was an insult.
The girl can’t sing. I know so many people at my church, at my daughters high school that could sing her under the table in a minute…Like another poster stated…she wouldnt have made past the first round of Idol or Nashville Star…So she’s cute, she writes cute songs, she has brought a lot of new life into country music,ok so make up an award for that but don’t rob country music icons for their just due.
SHAME ON YOU CMA’S!!!!
Greg Anthony says:
Taylor thanked everyone in the arena for not coming up on stage during her speech. That was “cute”, but enough already. You accepted the apology and continuing with the “poor, poor me” schtick is going to back fire on team Swift and Kayne isn’t worth the hit she’ll take.
Speaking of Kayne, I believe Kenny Chesney is WORSE then Kayne. Last year, as well as this year, he felt it necessary as soon as the entertainer of the year was announced to grab the winner, hold on to her while he had his “private moment” with her. Who the heck does he think he is? Why is he so self important that he felt congratulations couldn’t wait, like everyone else did, until the camera’s were off and she(they) could have their moment with out him horning in on it?
By the way, Kayne unintentionally gave Taylor a huge platform and exposure to promote herself, but Chesney did actually create a victim, Taylor’s Dad. The man was kept in his seat as a result of Chesney “tackeling” and grabbing, then holding Taylor right away. Then he kept her tied up so long she had to go right up leaving her father standing there without getting so much as a hug or giving a hug to his daughter. Something which was well desevered for both father and daughter. Mr. Swift was as always a complete gentalman, but I can’t help but to think that a selfish, self important, moment stealer like Chesney prevented a moment that would have lived in Mr. Swifts memory for ever. A much deseverd and earned one at that.
bcr says:
It’s hard to believe that no one in the media or on these posts understands or points out what the Top Female Vocalist Award is supposed to recognize. It’s NOT a singing award. It is the only award given to a female act (a “Female Vocalist”) and it is for ‘outstanding achievement’ in country music over the past year, not ‘who has the best voice’. The CMA voters understood that and that’s why Taylor Swift was the obvious winner of the FVOTY award. To think that one of the other contestants had a better year than she did is delusional. One might argue with EOTY this early in her career but please stop with the misguided whining about the Female Vocalist Award. You may not like her singing or her music, but NO ONE had a year like she did, period.
garth says:
Female vocalist to someone who can’t sing. country hasnt’t sold out has it?
MWolfe says:
Ok, circus acts can sell and it’s a teen thing…I get it. I understand it’s big money to have all these teens bringing attention to country. So let them have a good time. Give her entertainer awards, video, song, ect…but it’s an insult to give her vocal awards, insult to the real vocal talent.
And to have to hear her sing twice so poorly. You could even see other artist cringing at times. She doesn’t even have an average voice, it’s a C-.
Some movies sell well with special effects and poor actors.
She is a stage show for pre teens in love and she can’t keeping singing teen love much longer. Even her stage acts are getting silly. When she finishes she has this look on her face at awards show..can’t understand why only teens are going nuts.
The last stripper performance was horrible. She would’ve never been looked at in the 80’s or 90’s…when you had to have talent like Patty Loveless.
Maryellen says:
