Brad Paisley Wins Entertainer Award … in France
The résultats are in. And I have to agree with the country music lovers in France. Sara Evans is quite the meilleure chanteuse. At the recent 7th Annual French Country Music Awards, Evans was named Female Vocalist of the year. Alan Jackson won the best male vocalist prize. And Brad Paisley took top entertainer, musician and album awards. Zac Brown Band, Kenny Chesney and Mac McAnally, John Rich and Ricky Skaggs were also in the winner's circle. I'm half French, so it sort of makes sense that I would have the same tastes in good American country music as fans who are 100 percent French. Plus, this list of winners helps open my mind a little to accept the fact that country music has so much international appeal. And that sometimes, a country star can come from outside the U.S. Keith Urban is a daily reminder of that.

Brad has won the entertainer award by the French now 4 years in a row. Don’t they know that Kenny Chesney wins the award here in our country? Just sounds fishy to me.

It’s about time Sara wins something again for her beautiful and unique vocals. Now maybe Americans will get on board and “rediscover” what she has to offer to country music instead of handing over trophies to the pop princesses. Don’t get me wrong, I’m okay with Taylor, Carrie and Miley. They just need their own category like pop/country.

Keith Urban is by far the BEST ENTERTAINER in country music anywhere in the world! It’s a shame the French did not recognize him with such an award since he sells out shows in Europe as well as the US. Keith’s talent and high energy shows prove he is the BEST ENTERTAINER. At least Keith was honored with the Entertainer Award from the CMA’s in 2005 along with his 3 straight Male Artist awards. The problem is Keith is better than ever and deserves these awards now more than ever but seems to only get nominated but never wins…..what’s wrong with this picture! As for female artist, where was Martina and Reba? although Sara is a great female artist I think the French overlooked two of the best female country artists out there. Maybe next year they will get it right.

Respectfully disagree with you Faye, I don’t think Reba or Martina have been overlooked much at all lately. They are still routinely nominated every year for something and win often. They continue to receive the recognition they deserve. I am not sure Sara has been given that same deserved recognition. She has worked hard for many years, has had several hit’s sold millions of albums, yet has been pretty much shut out in winning at most awards show’s, winning the Female Vocalist Trophy just once, and a Best Video Award for Born To Fly in 2001. Winning the FVA in another country is a small consolation for a woman who has worked hard for many years, so I say congrat’s Sara, and be happy for her.

luvmyboys, Evans is just as much a Pop Country act as Underwood and Swift. Thay are all played in the Pop Country genre. Well….Evans was at one time, but since she can’t make anyone any money she has been discarded, and replaced by someone who can. However I agree that Country Music stars can come from ouside the US. Hank Snow, Kasey Chambers, Bap Kennedy, Corb Lund.

Redmaz: Sara Evans isn’t as pop as Underwood and Swift are and they are hardly being followed by much of an adult crowd. Swift is a better songwriter than she is a singer and she’s getting recognized not so much for talent but because of the teenage following. The teeny boppers don’t buy Reba and Martina and Sara music because they haven’t been “over” exposed by them and really don’t know who they are. If radio gave more airtime to the other female artists out there, there would be more of a “competition” like it used to be.

Seriously! I love Sara Evans, Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Swift. Sara Evans and Reba McEntire has pop sound to their music also, just like Carrie and Taylor. Sara Evan’s new single sounds pop to me. Just saying. Why don’t people talk about Sugarland? Carrie Underwood sounds more country compared to them. Of course everybody hates Carrie and Taylor because they are the popular ones. I agree Taylor should go to her own genre, but Carrie sounds more country than Taylor.

I could probably give you a better definition of what country music SHOULD be and SHOULDN’T. Country is Loretta,Tammy,Dolly to name a few. Pop is Britney, Shakira and Rihanna to also name just a few. Taylor is more of a pop singer with a pop following. I don’t think she has brought her fans any closer to country music. Yes, I agree that the other country female artists have crossed over to the pop genre also. It’s not always all their doing though either. Some are mismanaged and others have to test the other genres or they’ll be left behind. What I’d like is someone to put out a great 100 percent country album. If I want to hear rock or watch a 19 year old flip her hair around while she’s singing an upbeat song, I’ll watch MTV.

I see you didn’t answer my question, which is fine. I didn’t ask you WHO was Pop, I asked you WHAT was Pop? You seem to be claiming Pop music is an individual genre of music. Correct me if I’m wrong. Did you know there are 100’s of artist today who put out 100% Country albums? It’s true. Do you believe me?
