Jason Isbell Sets Stage for "Cigarettes and Wine"

Posted: October 28th, 2009 at 1:55 pm  |  By: Chris Parton

"Cigarettes and Wine" finds Jason Isbell in a rough time of his life after meeting and losing the girl that made him feel right, and he tells the whole tale from beginning to the heart-wrenching end when she leaves him "Alone with this bottle of pills/And the last of my youth." It's a beautiful thing in that even though it's sad, he's not sorry about falling for her and doesn't want to wish her memory away. Check out this black-and-white video, filmed live at a Shoals Theater concert in Isbell's hometown of Muscle Shoals, Ala.

I’ve seen these guys a bunch of times in Memphis and Auburn, AL. They put on a hell of a show and are great to hang with as well.

Jason Isbell is one of the best writers and performers out there.
The stories in his songs are True Americana whether singing about
love found and lost to every day people struggling to make ends meet.
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit put on a fantastic show and should not
be missed. His songs and guitar playing inspire me to be a better
musician. Thank you Jason for your music.
